Has Sundin lowered his price and are the Wings a possibility?

Reports out of Toronto indicate that Sundin could go for as little as $2-million and be ready by december 1st. So using the Salary Chart on Let's Go Wings website I speculated on what it would take to get Sundin into a Red Wings sweater.

I highly doubt it, in order to fit Sundin in under the cap the Wings would have to trade Sammy and Lilja or one of the following

Cleary (NTC correct?)

Homer

Flip

Plus offense really isn't a concern now it is d, and there is no better top 4 in the league they just need to get their bearings. I just don't see him fitting under the cap.

EDIT: sorry other ways to make this fit

Trade Sammy and Malts/Hudler/Kopecy/Lebda/Meech

However they would have barely any room for call-ups, much like right now.

I am not at all sold on why Detroit would even want him... Back in the day when we sucked and he was good... maybe.. but now the times have changed.. we are good and he sucks

While I'm not getting into the fantasyland that is Sundin signing with Detroit, please tell me how you come up with Sundin sucks. Logic proves otherwise.

This is news to me. Since 1995 he has never scored below 70 points while putting up almost 80 pts last season. I'd take him for a reasonable price as long as we don't have to waive the future of our team or the present success of our team. If Cleary and Lebs can be sacrificed for Sundin I'd do it.

I buy into if it aint broke dont f*** with it... so far we aren't broke we don't need to add in more high priced players.

how good is he on the defensive side... thats what is broke. If he will switch to D then by all means take on his 2mill salary... its go time!

i dont want him anymore. itd be cool to have him, but then we'd also have to hear more and more about how we are supposedly "the yankees of the nhl" even though i know its as far from the truth as possible, you know we'd still hear it. but his indesiciveness totally ruined it for me. whole season my ass.

Sundin only offers offense, which we have lots of. We need to tighten up the D.

No, he really doesn't. Sundin is a + player 9 of his past 10 seasons. Atleast 5 of those have been on a s***ty TOR team. On top of that, his only minus season of the past 10 he finished -2. Not too shabby on that poor of a team.

Through play or players? The Red Wings don't need to add any defensemen...the current boys just need to tighten up. That also goes for our offense forechecking harder and committing to better defensive play.

The fact that the Wings are giving up way too many shots and goals is not *all* on the D.

Well he is a Leaf. I was against it for that reason, until I thought about how much it would completely piss off Leaf fans to have him help the Wings repeat. If we win ANOTHER Cup with him, we pull a Cup closer to Toronto at #2. I have nothing personal against him, except the Leaf part. So I'm for it if we can do it. Clearly he is worth sacrificing one of our guys like Sammy for as an upgrade with all the youth we have on the way up anyway for the long run.

I would assume this was a joke but just because someone plays for a team you don't care for doesn't mean they suck. Joe Sakic is a prime example of this.

Not a chance. Given his behaviors over the post-season with wavering over even playing, it's not the mentality that the Wings want or need.

Good point.

He seem to be a prime... FWB.... Friend with baggage... NOT benefits... BAGGAGE. Sitting out an entire season to wait to see which team will be on top at the deadline... Classy!

I don't really want him. Our top lines are stacked. The ONLY reason I'd be interested is to give this team more hunger to play for another cup. Which he will obviously bring as the next Dallas Drake figure. If he wants to take a paycut and we can kick Samuelson out the door, I'd be willing to give him his salary plus whatever change is left. Other than that, I don't want to sacrifice components of this already proven team.

I'd kick Lijla out the door, not Samuelsson. They have identical salaries, and we have Ericsson.

I hope the Wings get him so we all can laugh at the rest of the NHL for letting Mr. Holland bend them over and giving it to 'em by grabbing Hossa AND Sundin.

That's fine, but that still doesn't explain why he "sucks." In fact, you are very, very wrong.
