Right.

In order for the Wings to be as successful as they were last season, they need Nick Lidstrom to be Nick Lidstrom. The defense has just been too shaky so far for him to be anything but on the top of his game. I'm certainly willing to give him a few off nights, but a quarter of the way into the season, he's been an average defenseman. I think Brad Stuart has been far better.

Wrong, Lids is still the best dman, get over it, were playing good this year, we lost, who cares

I'd agree if the rest of the team have been playing well, but they haven't.

Fact: Not one Red Wings player has been impressive this season.

Um, what? You have to have some ridiculous standards if you don't think Hossa, Zetterberg, Datsyuk or Conklin has been impressive this season.

It felt like it would be a long night the way the first period was going, they didn't seem to have much jump and the 32 saves by Price were misleading because I can count on one hand how many real great chances the Wings got tonight. Franzens goal was the highlight of the night other than that, lets forget there was even a game tonight.

Well we didn't show up tonight and thats all there is to it, Conkquerer was good, i feel bad for him because the team didn't play with the effort he did between the pipes. Im already looking ahead to friday were the team should but forth a complete effort. 82 game season, sometimes we just don't show up tonight was one of those nights.

we didnt need to win this one, and who cares Franzen with the goal of the year so far

Oh, thanks for that. I feel a lot better now, despite having to see all those Frenchies celebrating their overrated team's victory and singing at the JLA.

You've just made my day.

But he shouldnt have given up the first goal which pretty much set the avalanche on us

 What??!? We have an amazing backup goaltender, Hossa is leading every category, Franzen is still on his streak......what are you talking about?

Conklin has been great, sure. But again. Neither of the two Wings' goalies are in the top 30 in SV% or GAA. That's horrible.

Hossa, again, good, but took 5 games to get going, and recently, hasn't been noticeable (which I blame squarely on Kopecy being there)

Franzen is picking up from last season, but 'impressive'? His two-way game, which is what he was suppose to be specializing in when he came to Detroit, has been lacking (just like everyone else).

Okay, we'll take Lidstrom off your hands for Nycholat and a 4th round pick. :sly:

Considering this just looks like a matter of age, if it werent for sentimentality, Id trade him for Ohlund. 21 games is enough for me to know that age has caught up to Lidstrom. Especially when he was outplayed by Kronwall throughout half the games in the playoffs last year.

ok so before anyone gets pissed and goes DUDE WE STILL HAVE A GREAT RECORD AND CANT WIN EM ALL, or says BEAT IT BANDWAGON FAN, which i am not, that game was ******* weak tonight. we had bad, bad positioning, got beat to the puck almost all night, won no battles along the boards. franzens sick goal was our only sign of life, besides the first 10 minutes which i thought we came out good. terrible game boys, rest up (they looked hella tired) and focus on friday, our first taste of the central.

What? you weren't impressed by that goal, you must be nuts like all of these other doom and gloomies, the habs dominated this one, yes their fans are retarded, just laugh at them knowing they wont win the cup this year despite all of thier hoopla

I think Lilja has been far better as well. And that's not me joking around either. I have honestly seen more quality things coming from Lilja this season than I have Lids. Maybe that's because I expect more from Lids than I do from Lilja, I don't know, but in any case, Lids isn't playing like he deserves that first-pairing. His reputation is the only reason he's got it right now as far as I'm concerned.

I really think it's the visor too. A player's skill level/ice vision just doesn't degrade that poorly, that quickly. It just doesn't happen.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Lids. He's our captain and he IS the best defenseman in the league - just not THIS season thus far. Something's off with him and it's far enough into the season that we can be honest about it without thinking it's some sort of defensive slump.

I was gonna make the same post, pretty much. Franzen played well for about 1 minute out of however many minutes he played tonight. Otherwise he only stood out for being overly terrible. And last time I checked, the first 5 and last 5 games of the season count, and Hossa has been rough in those games. Nothing special. Datsyuk has looked incredibly unremarkable as well.

Zetterberg looks good, but hes still not up to his standards.

So I basically agree. We're winning on talent alone, without the effort.

That is true but what really hurt us was the negation of our powerplay when Hossa simply threw a body check on a Habs player fighting for the puck (New NHL = Gordie Howe does not watch) that gave them some PP time and they made it 2-0.

Lidstrom is still playing Norris caliber defense pull your head out of your ass, lilja has been good but you're out of line

Not so fast thar buster, I'd check out Ohlund's injury history first - last year especially. Great player; sadly he is more prone to lingering injuries. I consider us lucky he too has not been out with an injury....yet. :/

Man this is really embarassing!

We can't even beat the crawling Habs in 3 games this season (including 2 off season games), the building is half empty and their fans are louder than our.

Hockeytown?

Pffffffff...

What a joke!

It's more like "hockeydown" to me...

In the game today i saw Z make a ton of brilliant moves down low corraling the puck on his stick, him and franzen once they were in the zone were a force, the problem was the habs were flat out embarrassed in their last game so they came out way harder and on a serious mission, since when has lang played that well defensively? never.
