CrossoverThrash 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2008 (edited) What can HankTM do for you? Edited November 29, 2008 by CrossoverThrash
adtthosa 5 Report post Posted November 29, 2008 He has played pretty well this season. I've always kind of liked him. I don't know if there's a player in the league that I'd rather have for the money he's making (at least, not a player that we could get).
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted November 29, 2008 j.hoop: If Sammy has 20 points i n 22 games that means he's on pace for just under 75 points, not 60. Pretty great given his salary. What can HankTM do for you? Hank's a part of it, but just like this board likes to criticize Sammy at every opportunity...it'd be nice for people to return the favor given the level he's played at thus far this season. Also, plenty of Sammy's goals have been unassisted or had nothing to do with Hank. Why is it that players like Z get the benefit of the doubt on garbage points but when a guy like Sammy gets solid points, it "shouldn't count" because he's playing alongside the elite? Ridiculous. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted November 29, 2008 This year it seems to me Sammy has been getting a lot of fairly meaningless secondary assists on the PP that are inflating his totals above what I perceive his true ability to be, but I'm pretty good with Mikael anyways. Decent offensive instincts, good shot, very responsible defensively, bargain salary; I'm not complaining.

I'd be willing to bet Z, Dats even Crosby have plenty of those garbage secondary assists.

I'd be willing to bet Z, Dats even Crosby have plenty of those garbage secondary assists. Sure, I agree. All good players that get lots of PP time end up with a good number of routine assists that inflate totals, but to be honest I've been watching Sammy's totals closely (because I've noticed just as the OP has his career year scoring pace) and it looks like an inordinate number of his points are coming in this way. Red Crazy 201 Report post Posted November 29, 2008 Crosby and Malkin seem to get an assist just for being on the ice at times. So does it matter if they are second assists or not???? I have to admit that I have never been a Sammy fan but his play this year seems to have improved a great deal and on certain nights has been our best player. wingslionstigers 12 Report post Posted November 29, 2008 What can HankTM do for you? Hahaha that was great. Its true though. Pretty much anybody that has any skill whatsoever should beable to put up 65-70 points when there on a line with Z and Franz getting lots of ice time. Inordinate or a few more than what any other player would get? Every player gets those points, and I highly doubt the majority or even a good portion of them are garbage. GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted November 29, 2008 He's playing with 2 all-stars on the same line, so he better be scoring at a high level. It also seems to me that he's been shooting the puck a lot less. I could be wrong there, but it seems like he's been more passive than ever at aiming for the goalie's crest like he's done in the past.

Every player gets those points, and I highly doubt the majority or even a good portion of them are garbage. I can't quantify it without looking at all of his plays and the plays of his contemporaries, so on a lack of hard evidence I'd have to concede the argument. But I knew that from the start, so as I've said, it's merely the perception that I've got that he's not really measuring up to his totals -- yes, as opposed to Pavel or Hank or Hudler who look like they're making more genuine plays. Ridiculous. yeah, i realized that, but set it a little lower to factor in possible injuries or slump streaks. 75 would be fantastic, but went with the more realistic number 60, which is by no means bad! i agree with your second part, sammy is a great player for his role and what we need of him. sometimes i dont agree with him on the point on the PP, but like you said, he definitely gets his own solid points, not too many of them have down low dirty bangers, his backhand has proven wicked this year, and his ability to carry and protect the puck are big to his game. pure props to sammy. QFT. getting the secondary assist means just as much as getting the primary. it just means he was part of the play and contributed to scoring.

The Mule 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2008 For the most part, Sammy has played well this season. I'd still prefer Stuart playing the point on the second power play unit instead, but considering Mikael's salary, I'm very glad he's a part of our team and not playing elsewhere. 55fan 5,133 Report post Posted November 29, 2008 The goalies let him score for fear of the Dreaded Swedish Facewash of Doom. I like Sammy, and I'm glad to see that he's getting props. He isn't flashy, but when he's on, he's on, and he plays a mean air-guitar.
Namingway 146 Report post Posted November 29, 2008 Ahaha, I was actually going to post a thread like this but I decided to wait until somebody else did because I KNEW it would happen sooner or later. I never hated Sammy as much as most of the people here do and I always saw him well worth his price but I've kept my mouth shut so I don't start anything :X Anyways I hope he plays well tonight to keep his ppg up! LET'S GO RED WINGS!!

He isn't flashy, but when he's on, he's on, and he plays a mean air-guitar. Indeed he does. Have always been pretty indifferent about him overall, I get some of the cons of his game, but never really understood why he was one of the constant scapegoats over other people. I'm just not one to play The Whipping Boy Game so as a result I've developed a soft spot for Samuelsson largely for the hope to make people in here sound foolish about him from time to time. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted November 30, 2008 Hes having his best year as a Wing. I don't think hes as good as what his pace is (nearly 75 points) but hes a hell of a bargain and, unless injuries play into things, hes a lock for 50 points.
