miller76 463 Report post Posted December 6, 2008 I guess that is just one of those cool things that happens in your life, that you will never forget. You couldn't have planned an encounter any better. Living here in SoCal, and for as many people that live here, I would think the star sightings would be few and far between. But I always seem to run into people who are employed in the entertainment industry. My son actually goes to school with a kid that was on Desperate Housewives for quite awhile. They are shooting a movie in a neighborhood behind mine, in this old house right now. It's everywhere. Sometimes it's almost a pain in the ass, cause they shut down streets and whatever else, when they are shooting. But I would much rather run into a player like Datsyuk and have a conversation. Congrats IceMunkee.

Systemfel 33 Report post Posted December 6, 2008 I'm sure if you tried that he'd give you some nasty Russian words to say too. Yeah, I'm sure most fans can't even pronounce Datsyuk the right way.
IceMunkee 15 Report post Posted December 6, 2008 Last season I did the color guard for a game and we got invited back to a suite. I watched the entire game with Gordie Howe! That was equally amazing! I have had pretty good luck.

Congrats IceMunkee. My parents said it was like that all the time when they lived in Edmonton during the dynasty years. They'd find Craig McTavish in line at the bank or Gretzky at the supermarket, stuff like that. Similar situation here in Vancouver, loads of movies and tv shows get filmed here, it's strange how often I'll watch something and there'll be a scene set somewhere downtown - even the classroom I had my LSAT prep course in was in XMen 2. Haven't met any celebs really, though I've been an extra in a few things they've filmed on campus.

It's the COOLEST experience that you'll have forever. Congrats! I am so excited for you!!! I can't wait to see the pictures!! Hey Jedi - $5? LOL ahahahah We met Dats at the game in January 2007. When Jedi went up to Pavel to get him to take his picture Pavel said "$5" LOL ahahaha it was so funny. rossco was out here from Scotland for that game as well and he had brought a ton of different jerseys to wear and he asked me before that game against the kings which jersey should he wear. I was like wear Datsyuk. He got that jersey signed that night because we met him after the game. It's such a memorable experience. SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted December 6, 2008 So I had to tell you all that I just had a wonderful experiance. I went with a friend to Hockeytown Authentics so he could get his girlfriend a Z jersey for Xmas. As we are walking through the store we walk past a very short man and two taller guys. All of which were speaking Russian, well at least that is what I know now. I said that is a strange little man to myself and turned around. None other then my favorite Red Wing is stanging there who obviously just noticed my noticing him and he smiled. So I said, Whats up Pavel! With my s*** eating Fan Boy grin. After about twenty minutes of not going up to him cause I was nervous, my friend and I walked over and shook his hand. We talked for probably 2 minutes. He was purchasing Red Wings Merchandise galore. I am talking stacks of t's, sweatshirts, hats and jackets of Red WIngs stuff. My buddy asked him if he was doing some christmas shopping and he said that he wants to see Red Wings stuff all over the place when he goes home to Russia! Ya'll know he is a joker and he was funny. So I bid him farewell and left. As soon as I got in the car I fumbled for my phone to call my wife and realized I had left it at the office. So I called a friend to get my wifes phone number and immediatly called her. I basically begged to return and buy a jersey and have him sign it for me. Eventually she let me and I did. He personalized it for me and everything! I have a picture in my friends phone that I will try to post. I am stoked and thought I would share my experiance. Since YOU are a celebrity now, can I have YOUR autograph?

This Is Bida 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2008 I'm so damn jealous!!! Definitely happy for ya though also. Your story instantly reminded me of a fun, yet disturbing story I always tell my friends... Playing competitive hockey all my life, my family and I have met some people well connected with the Wings. A buddy, Shawn Hayes, his father used to be a goal judge so knew some of the staff and players. Another friend of the family was a man named Brent Charnock. I played hockey with his son Justin. Well this man was very well in with the Red Wings organization and ended up coming very close with Sergie Fedorov (I believe he was Fedorovs agent for a little while). They drove around their Harleys all the time and he ended up helping Sergie learn some english. Anyways, one day in the summer me and my family go out real quick to stupid f'n ice cream (what a mistake that ended up being). Well Brent Charnock, knowing what big of a Fedorov fan I used to be, was riding around the town with Sergie on their Harleys and decided to stop by my house. Like I said, he was a good friend of the family so after knocking on the front door he went around to the back door and let himself in to see if we were anywhere to be found. Anyways, long story short, we get home and there's a note on my counter: Bida's (our last name) Me and Mr. Fedorov were riding around town on our Harleys. Stopped by to introduce you. Sorry you weren't around. Better luck next time. -Brent At first I thought it was a joke, but it later set in that this man was not joking. Having been to his house he had pictures galore of him and many Red Wings, a few were of Fedorov on him on their Harleys. Ever since then, I've done nothing but regret going to get ice cream that day!!!

Uncle Danny 155 Report post Posted December 6, 2008 I'm so freaking jealous! Great story In all my years of following the Wings, even living six blocks from the Joe for a lot of them, I've never had the opportunity to meet one of them. The closest I've come actually just happened recently. I moved to CA a long time ago, and my dad, who still lives in MI just came out for a visit. My pops is not a sports fan at all, but knows I love me some hockey. He casually asks over dinner, "so, have you ever heard of a player named Pat Verbeek?" Turns out my little sister (she's fourteen and a nationally ranked soccer goalie) plays on a team with his daughter. My dad regularly hangs out with Verbeek and his wife at games, and if I remember correctly, has even been to dinner with them several times. Anyway, long story short, my dad knew he played hockey at some point, but had no idea that he had played for the Wings, or that he had the level of career that he did. He got a serious belly laugh out of me calling him the "Little Ball of Hate," and promised to get me at least an autograph the next time they cross paths. I can't wait

My buddy just sent me a pic of him and Marian Hossa, Huds and Kopeckey at the bar. He sat talking to them for a while. I will let him tell the story though. Awsome.
