Bad defense + brutal officiating + great offensive plays by the opponents + shoddy goaltending (again) = going from up 2-0 to down 3-2.

I don't usually like to be the one sounding a warning bell, but I'm officially convinced the Wings as presently constructed cannot win the Stanley Cup. The things they're doing aren't bad habits anymore, it's who this team is. Reminds me a lot of the 2002-3 Wings.

That 3rd goal was BAD from Conklin but the first two were beautiful. The fact that WE are facing a goaltender who looks like s*** tonight and essentially gave us two free goals and we're STILL down by a goal is inexcusable.

Zetterberg, Franzen, Hossa, and Datsyuk better make some contributions in the next few periods.

Looks like the Wings decided to give us all a break tonight and not wait till the 3rd period to blow the lead.. I still want to know what Conklin was thinking on that last goal.. he just went down and stayed there and just watched Toews.. he didnt even flinch when the shot was takin like somehow he thought he had it covered.. I expect to see Ozzie in the 2nd.. hopefully we will wake the hell up..

I'm not panicking by any means but we need to find a way to keep the puck out of our own net...I thought we played a pretty good period but they get 3-5 decent scoring chances and score on 3 of them. Stuart, Kronner and Lilja need to step up on these young kids and give them a couple of good hits too...Toews, Sharp, and Kane look cocky and confident out there.

God we suck this year defensively.

We've already given up 3 goals, are 0 for 2 on the PK, and the goalie can't stop a damn thing.

This has got to be fixed ASAP, because it's become embarassing to watch the goals get racked up against us like that.

It's going to be this way the entire year.

Two and a half months into the season and nothing has changed since game 1. Why should anyone think it's going to change later? We're just going to have to live with the fact that they are terrible this year and expect a high GA than most years.

WIN THE STANLEY CUP?.. lol.. Im convinced that unless things drastically change we wont win a playoff round at all.. We just consistently find ways to lose games..

Yeah this is becoming a normal thing now,I mean this is getting just ridiculous.Believe it or not when the Blackhawks scored their first goal I said we're in trouble. You even feel it when you watch a game now,you just KNOW the Wings aren't going to win an easy game anymore. Not saying they should blow every team out but this is just getting out of hand.

OMG CONKLIN IS TEH WORST GOLIE EVAR!~!!!!1111

Come on, someone had to do it. :P

I'm not really here, I'm just cleaning up stuff on my mom-in-law's computer, but I saw that stinker of a goal on the streaming feed. Conklin's not looking good lately. Not outplaying Ozzie, that's for sure.

And back to the installing of CCleaner and such...

I can appreciate your opinion, but do you honestly believe that you can change from an elite defensive unit to absolute garbage over the course of one summer? Doesn't seem very likely.

They're not consistently finding ways to lose games. They've only got 4 regulation losses. But these weaknesses we're seeing aren't the kinds of things teams just "fix" later in the year. And they're the kinds of weaknesses that spell doom in the playoffs.

This is what I'm starting to think.

Oh, and in between the man-love for the Refs & Conklin can someone tell me if Pavel Datsyuk is actually playing tonight? I didn't hear his name once in the 1st period.

As I've been saying over and over and over again, ROSTER CHANGES need to happen. I'm not talking about bringing up Darren Helm. I'm talking about a SUBSTANTIAL change or changes to this team.

You have two sides to this team. The first is that they are talented beyond belief. The second is that their heads and hearts aren't in the game.

Ask Anaheim fans how great guys like Neidermayer, Pronger, Pahlsson, etc played last year. Was there a coincidence that Schneider was one of the best players on their team last year? Put two and two together already.

I understand what you're saying, but let me ask the inverse: Do you honestly believe that a team that can't keep the puck out of their own net after 1/4 of the season will suddenly become an elite defensive unit come April? That seems equally unlikely.

Defense is about commitment and effort, and there's something sorely lacking in that regard from this team. It's hard to pinpoint what it is, but my concern is that if it could have been fixed, it already would have been. Whatever it is.

Because, you know, there are OT and SOLs in the playoffs. And the shoddy teams we've been beating up on are going to be there in the playoffs to give us that pretty record we have.
