Jason Williams...back in the Central.

Williams had 20 goals and 58 points in 05-06. Trading him for Kyle Calder was a waste just like the Bertuzzi trade.

Williams was injured during the 06-07 season and never was the same when he came back. I like him and wish him nothing but the best, but the Wings couldn't justify his roster position when younger, more promising players like Flip and Huddler needed ice time to develop. Yes, Calder was a bust, but the trade really didn't hurt the Wings either.

Edit: clarity

Totally agree; ever since Torres laid him out like a three dollar ***** on two dollar Tuesday J-Willy was never the same. He came back afraid of contact and it showed big time. If J-Willy played in a round rink he'd be more effective cause then he wouldn't have to worry about avoiding the corners. He seemed to be a good guy though and I wish him luck with the Jackets. Giving him up for Calder had more to do about getting rid of him rather than acquiring Calder.

Calder was only a bust because for some reason Babcock hated his guts, he was good for us in the games he played.

Did anyone ever find out what exactly was going on with that?

I know he wasn't that important.

Last season in Blackhawks he had an even better points-per-game than in 05-06.

And Hawks fans were happy to see him go.

As were Wings fans

And now Thrashers fans. Despite the fact that they got him for an AHLer and a 6th rounder.

No it wasn't. He was garbage after the Torres hit, plus he was signed for another year and Calder was slated to be an UFA. The Wings dumped his contract. He wasn't going to amount to anything, he just benefitted from being on one of the greatest regular season teams of all time.

I think the Bertuzzi and Calder trades worked out well for us. We were able to get to the Conference Finals in 2007, which helped out guys like Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Kronwall get some much needed playoff experience.

Ok, ok, he sucked and so does everything else.

I have an idea of a new game here. Let's everyone write here the names of worst players in the NHL. The member who writes the name of THE worst player wins.

I'd be confident Tomas Kopecky could do quite well in that category.

I do, too. Bert got better and better each game for us, and filled a great role with us. Calder was great in the regular season for us. I know that since we didn't re-sign either of them the trades seem like a waste, but let's not negate their contributions.

And you know it seems to me anyway I'll double check tonight that Calder plays his hind quarters off against the wings. That's what I don't like about our old pal Jason, he seems to play his best against the wings. That''s what sucks about this, if he played like that all the time he could've STAYED in Atlanta, faaar away..
