BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted January 16, 2009 Conklin looked great tonight and it was nice to see the normally brutal 4th line contribute. All the defense pairings were decent most of the night, too.

Yak19 303 Report post Posted January 16, 2009 CONKQUERER!!!!!! Another SO, I say we give him the start verse SJ, I think he earned the right to play in one of these tougher matches, although Ozzie was great against both Dallas and Anaheim. Surprising production tonight to say the least, nice win, solid all around game and Chelios was +3. GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the defense pairings were decent most of the night, too. Not to beat a dead horse, or at the very least an old horse, but Cheli to me still looks slow as molasses. He was partly to blame for that two-on-none that Conks stopped. And he had a couple icings on missed passes that should've been relatively easy first passes from the zone. I'm amazed he ended up +3 tonight. All in all though, good game. And great to see some 4th liners producing. The Kings have trouble scoring goals, so if you get up on 'em early, it usually doesn't end well for them. And having Doughty out of the lineup sure isn't helping. MIN8TV 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2009 Which means that the western conference lead is up for grabs on Saturday. It'll be quite the game, I'm sure. Not quite. We can pull within one. Go Wings!

It's funny that you felt that way because I found Cheli's limited ice time really encouraging tonight. He made some very solid defensive plays and some great clears on the PK. Usually I'm pretty hard on Chelios, but tonight was an exception I guess. What I will say is that Lilja has been unbelievably impressive this season. I would argue that he's been our most consistent defenseman and our top penalty killer. Edited January 16, 2009 by Yellowknife Redwing
miller76 463 Report post Posted January 16, 2009 Just got home from the game tonight. I was definetly impressed with Conklin. The look on some of the Kings fans faces tonight when Datsyuk had the puck was funny. They were absolutely amazed at his puckhandling skill. He is unbelievable in person! All around great effort tonight. Especially after playing a tough one lastnight.
Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted January 16, 2009 Not quite. We can pull within one. Go Wings! Actually we can take the lead. Though the Sharks will have a game in hand on us.
Nev 1,085 Report post Posted January 16, 2009 Great job Wings, beating up on the bottom-feeders just like we should. Babs has a real tough choice now for Saturday. And, great job by RWNW - that looked and sounded like a home game

Seraph 240 Report post Posted January 16, 2009 Hey fellas. Good game tonight. I just got back from it and thought I'd share a story about Cheli. Haha. Well, where I was sitting, there was a particularly hostile group of Kings fans that were very aggressively banging and taunting any wings players that skated by. Especially Conklin, when he was skating around before faceoffs, they were really loud and basically annoying to. And you know how most of the time, all the players completely ignore the crowd? No one minded them until most of the game was done. But then skates Chelios around the corner. And he skates down the line of Kings fans, looks them in the eye and gives them a half sneer/half smirk with a smile in the corner of his mouth. It was hilarious. The fans immediately got up and kept banging away on the glass. Classic Chelios. Hahaha.

I'm amazed he ended up +3 tonight. The Wings need to make up their mind about Cheli. He's been healthy for awhile now, but they're not playing him very much. He's 46, soon to be 47--he's too old to play once every 10 days and be effective. If he played regularly, he would certainly look sharper and (relatively) quicker. Is he still a capable defencemen? The Wings will only know if they give him a good look--they need to either give him the chance or send him gracefully on his way. Hey fellas. Good game tonight. I didn't think the Kings fans were being aggressive or were taunting--they were just bored with their team's play and we're having a bit of fun with Cheli, and Cheli just laughed at them. It seemed like a good natured exchange to me.

But they where excited when the kings hit the puck up in the netting "Hey look they hit a net!!!" 2 funny. Edited January 16, 2009 by Duck Guy

Yzermania 156 Report post Posted January 16, 2009 I would just like to say after the game, I waited out where their bus takes off at and none other than Mr. Steve Yzerman came up. I got him to sign my '97 champs hat that I was wearing tonight. That only made the shutout that much better. I couldn't believe when he walked up the ramp, there were only like 10 people or so out there. It was awesome.

As much as I appreciate what Cheli has done over the course of his career as a Wing he's really taken a step back from even what his salary is. Before, he made those $1 million deals look great, but ever since the tail end of last season he hasn't played up to his meager contract and $750,000 seems like massive overpayment for his level of play so far this year. I really hope he gets in a groove because you can never have enough experience and depth heading into the playoffs and his number just may be called upon. That being said, I think its time for Holland to let him go after this season.
