PROBIE4PREZ 58 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 (edited) Roenick He's absolutley right when he talks about interviewing hockey players .. they all say the same damn thing -I think we played a good game tonight -we shot the puck well -trying to put pucks in the back of the net boom thats the dialoge of a hockey player and its boring as hell ... i remember a couple of good interviews from wings players and ciccerelli mouthing off about shaking lemuix hand was great n so was the Datsyuk ring tone.. Ozzie is a character but even he says the same garbage everytime .. I wanna hear some f'n anger or some goofin around .. pull bettman outta your asses and say something entertaining (noT Avery style) OV is a excellent example. I pretty sure everyone would like to see some more personallity on screen instead on paper .. seems like a lot of funny s*** happens with the cameras off. VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 All athletes are really boring to interview. In all sports, they all say the same thing. Unless they start joking around it's not like there's anything groundbreaking that'll be covered.

Louisville 112 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 I agree, although sometimes the problem is that they are asked the say damn questions every time. Like, what do you guys have to do to get back in this game? How are you going to hold the lead? It's all routine for them. While players could mix it up, there isn't much else they can add besides an occasional joke.
PROBIE4PREZ 58 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 i was thinking that too.. i guess if your getting asked lame ass questions ur going to give a lame ass answer
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 As much as I love the business demeanor the Wing's have, I still laugh everytime Hudler scores because it seems whether a player had an assist on the play everyone gets as excited as he does when he scores. Spinner 6 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 Example... Q: What do you need to do to get back into the game? A: Maybe punch a couple guys in the face and knee a couple in the groin but hopefully not get caught because we need to stay out of the penalty box.
Ms_Hockey 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 If they're Canadian, you gotta add some more "uhhh"s in there. Like Drapes. Hahaha. "We uhhhh skated real well and uhhhhh lost some momentum".

Every time they interview him, I'm cracking up by the end of it. He says "uhhhhhhhhhhh" more than anything else!

adtthosa 5 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 There was a commercial a few years back that poked fun at this. Some beer league player comes off the ice and his wife is standing there, it goes something like... Wife: Hey, great game. Listen, I was- Player: Well it was a gut check time, you know, our backs were against the wall but we really battled through it and we managed to come out on top. Wife: .....what are you talking about? Player: Yeah we're on a bit of a streak here, we're getting a great team effort, everybody's contributing, all lines are firing...it feels really good. Wife: ....I'll be in the car. Player: Okay thanks (walks off) There has to be somebody here who knows what I'm taking about, it was hilarious. Maybe it's on Youtube somewhere. Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 (edited) Shanny should definately be a hockey broadcaster sometime. I still crack up thinking about the time right after Hull scored his 700th, he came into the locker room with a hat celebrating Mathieu Dandenault's 30 career goals or something like that Edited January 15, 2009 by Hockeytown0001
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 I guess with Avery being suspended for trash talking his opponents (in a very low and completely not cool way for which he deserved to be suspended) the chances that more players will "open up" so to say during interviews is even slimmer. Every team will probably have Media Training once a week and learn all the proper responses such as "We need to get pucks deep and keep working, stay out of the box and get things going on the PP". In the Wings we atleast have Pasha and actually Lilja who are pretty funny in interviews. And McCarty of course, when he's with the team. I do agree the reporters asks really lame questions too. Often they're not even really questions they just say something like: "can you talk a little about how your offense is working?" or similar.
hak 21 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 how many times a week do you think they get the same questions? after a couple of years it should be a bit tiring.. can't blame em! and when they're being interview right before/after a game i'm sure there are alot of other things on their mind
Doc Holiday 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 It's hard to be original when the same subjects keep coming up. But all I heard from some people are cliches. At least make it sound like you have an opinion.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 Most sports interviews are boring, period. Watching the press conferences of about 95% of NFL coaches is like listening to a broken record. Always the same crap. That's why Sean Avery is the type of guy who's good for sports, because he opens the door for controversial topics and conversations on sports talk shows. Every sport has a guy like Sean Avery. Except for hockey that is, since he's currently not playing.
Sgt. Angry 23 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 how many times a week do you think they get the same questions? after a couple of years it should be a bit tiring.. can't blame em! and when they're being interview right before/after a game i'm sure there are alot of other things on their mind Yeah, especially when you have to put up with lame-ass John Whatever-the-hell-his-name-is. I'm darn sure that if he or Trevor T got to interview them after winning the Stanley Cup, their first question would be "Tell us, how big a win was this one?" All they seem to do is ask "how" questions.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted January 16, 2009 As has been said a few times in here, when you get the same things asked 600 times, you are going to give the same answers almost every time more or less. Nothing really shocking. The questions that players get asked are just as cliche as the answers. It's not good, it's not bad, it just is what it is.
