Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 tsn are we in double digits yet? Why not? He put up a point per game last year when he came back for the deadline. He's still effective, especially at the price!
Wings_Rule_1010 4 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 Not suprised. This seems like it is becoming an annual event. No doubting his talent, but can he stay healthy? Who knows.
HenrikRules40 14 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 Didn't Doggy start a thread about this? Talk about foresight!!! Anyway, time for the annual Brett Favre-ing of Peter Forsberg. And later this year we can call it the Peter Forsberg-ing of Brett Favre.

MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 Obviously it seems he'll only play for Colorado, but he'd better hurry it up because they're gonna fade out of the playoff picture soon.

BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 It would be cool if Forsberg was in the middle of a shift and his ankle or groin fell off right there on the ice. I would laugh so hard.
SweWings 45 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 I almost cried when I saw this in the news. Can people just stop bothering us and him with this crap?
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 tsn are we in double digits yet? Who knows. In all seriousness though, when he was healthy, more often than not he was almost always on, and lethal whoever he played against. Even last year during his limited stint. Who are we to say player A or player B should just retire? That's not up to us. And I know there have been responses to stuff like this or coming out of retirement in mid-season and how players shouldn't do that. To me, that is not up to the NHL to regulate. It is up to each employer/team to see if they think a player can help that team out and if it fits in the team's budget/salary cap, whether if that guy was healthy from day 1 or injured but finally healthy at game 60. If Forsberg can make a comeback, more power to him. Given how he just can't shake the injury bug though, I'm not holding my breath for it to happen.

cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 Niedermayer, Selanne, Forsberg, Sundin, Forsberg again, etc. This list just keeps on growing. The days of the "mercenary" player in professional hockey has long gone, but players like these insist on playing the "hired gun" role. They do know that the season starts in October, don't they? But, I guess it's added revenue in program sales.
CopenhagenWing 38 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 This is a sad end to a career that was great and could've been even better. As Wings fans we almost have to hate Forsberg by default but the guy was an awesome player. Unfortunately, his own playing style contributed to a certain extent to an early retirement. dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 (edited) He showed last season that he's still an awesome player when he's not injured. I think the guy is worth a "real" comeback, his career was great but he really would have been up there with the very best of all-time if he had been a little more healthy. Most players would probably have given up in his situation, but I don't blame him for trying. You can tell he loves the game and he's willing to do anything to get another chance to play it. Unfortunately, his own playing style contributed to a certain extent to an early retirement. He had a really tough way of playing that led to several injuries, but most of them don't really have anything to do with his current situation. His main problem is one of his feet, which apparantly has some really rare problem that causes it to change size in the skate or something like that. He's probably been to almost every doctor in the world to try and find a solution. I believe the thing he's trying right now is to have an electrical current applied to the foot while playing, but from what I've heard it's not looking too good sadly. Jocke 53 Report post Posted January 25, 2009 I doubt he will start playing again seeing his foot felt worse than he was hoping (according to swedish newspapers). He would make any team better if he came back. Imagine zäta - foppa - franzen as a 2nd line

LeftWinger 5,152 Report post Posted January 25, 2009 ...heck, The Wings gave McCarty to limited role, he played in the first 3 rounds and at least 1 Cup game to get his name on it. If you were to role the dice again, would Forsberg be worth $500,000 to play for the Wings? ...I say no. Bring up Helm, Lieno & Abdelkader and then use Helm. He shined bright in the playoffs last season, no reason why he couldn't do it again! Besides, McCarty pretty much came in a took Downey's playoff spot. Downey earned that spot and he deserved to play in the playoffs, thank heavens he played enough in the regular season to get his name on the Cup! Doesn't look like that is gonna happen again this year... ...Also, Forsberg "owes" it to the Aves fans to NEVER play for the Wings, even if it means passing on winning another Cup. Maybe he wouldn't be able to handle the boos if the Wings played Colorado again! Another reason to pass on him, he has a yellow streak down his back as long as the Mississippi! He has to know that We'd EVENTUALLY warm up to him, then he'd have the GREATEST fans in the world cheering him and then he'd wonder why he EVER thought Colorado fans were worth playing for... (you know Sundin is kicking himself in the ass for waiting so long to decide)

dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 Actually he has decided to play for Modo in the Swedish Elite League. His first game will most likely be on the 12th of February. He says his foot feels better than when he made the comeback last year, but still not 100%. This according to Aftonbladet.se . This will make the SEL more interesting..
