Outsider 42 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 Oz was terrible tonight. No excuses. I still have faith he'll turn it around, but he sure didn't make any progress toward that end tonight. Dear Oz: Kindly remove your head from your rear end. That is all. Thanks, Me
Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 No s***! His last couple have made me start to reconsider Franzen too, and I Love Franzen! esteef Up until recently, I've always thought keep Franzen instead of Hossa. Now I'm very much in favour of keeping Hossa instead. He's a freak. We can keep Hudler, Hossa and Flip. Franzen goes.
LeftWinger 5,152 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 Yep He also said the guys "were able to pick up Ozzie". He pretty much said what I felt as well, that there weren't many bad defensive breakdowns and if Ozzie had just kept his legs together we would have won 4-2 or more. Hossa would be great to resign, but if it's at the expense of Hudler and Flip (and probably Franzen)? I'm not sure. Depth is more important than any one player. A night like this Hossa seems invaluable though.. it all depends on what he's willing to take. ...I am willing to bet Hossa will sign for a long term deal where he makes less next year and then more when Lidstrom either retires or re-signs for MUCH less. Franzen will also be re-signed, but in order for all that to happen, they need to trade Flip for a 2nd and 3rd draft pick and allow Huds to sign somewhere else for 2.6 million and get us a 1st and 3rd round pick as compensation. If those picks are all in the same year then that will be two 1st round picks, two 2nd round picks and three 3rd round picks! Sorry Huds and Flip, but signing Hossa and Franzen and letting you guys go just makes more business sense than re-signing Huds and keeping Flips $3 million on the books... ...nothing personal, just business... j.hoop 64 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 Alright, LGW. Have a good night. I've reached my Ozzie bashing limit. Take care. if you think its unwarranted, then youve got the thickest homer glasses on. some of it is probably over the line (not denying that i participate) but youve gotta have SOME confidence in your goalie if your gonna win games. how much you wanna bet that when jovanoski got that breakaway, half the bench knew it was going in? as sad as it is, its probably very true. blame a defense lapse all you want, but it doesnt automatically mean that he shouldnt stop it. i wont even go into the almost kicked in goal, because thats definitely not the first time ive seen something like, and definitely not few and far between. kylee 727 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 im starting to get a bit scared at Osgood's play, and i absolutely love the guy. no ozzie, no cup. it's that simple. either way, the good from tonight's game, Hossa is simply amazing. great to see Zetty net one as well. ComradeWasabi 109 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 I don't think it can be contested that their second and third goals were weak. Not plays I would expect a strong goalie to get scored on from.
Rivalred 630 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 He stopped one in this game, so...3? Well, he stopped 1 so, that is an improvement? I did not see the game, so I have to compile a "guess" from many pages here and online reports.
I Red Wings I 40 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 "It was a penalty, I wasn't debating that," Phoenix coach Wayne Gretzky said. "But there were three hooks on our guys before that." Ed Jovanovski agreed. "It was a joke, an absolute joke. Forty five seconds left in the game," he said. "The guys are battling for the puck. There were two penalties missed before that in the corner. He calls that, it's embarrassing. We're fighting for our lives here. That's a big point for us."
bjh14 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 Phoenix had heaps of holding the stick, hooking and tripping penalties that they didn't get called for throughout the game. Its funny how you only remember what you want to. They also didn't seem to be complaining when the refs called a mystery icing against the wings with only 1 min to go in the 3rd which gave Phoenix an offensive zone faceoff. Just cause Phoenix couldn't capitalize doesn't mean they didn't get a huge advantage out of that.
Yzerman191 37 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 Someone needs to tell Jovanovski that while that penalty was questionable, hitting a player who just got over an injury to his back in the lower back is a real joke. I'd love to see the sore loser get a suspension for that immature s***, but I know it won't happen.

Yak19 303 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 Jovanovski was always a spazzy he used to play road hockey with my friend's older brothers and we would watch sometimes and he would just go mental all the time. There was terrible calls on both sides, i guess the timing of the that last one for the Yotes was crushing but the game should not have been tied at that point anyway. I love Ozzie and I think he will bounce back for the playoffs but right now all i can say is................................. well nothing can be said really. Keep the W's coming and hopefully we play more to our potential over the rest of the season. GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Vladifan 680 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 Panger, pandering to Wayner and the desert dogs: "This was a gritty game with lots of fiber in it!!" My, he makes it sound so... healthy!! Losers. Well, if Panger's right it won't be just the Yote's minds that are constipated....And oh yeah, I hope it backfires on 'em, so to speak.
bjh14 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 Considering the mediocre play of various parts of the Wings game so far this year i think we can thank our lucky stars we are in such a good spot in the standings. I can't wait to see what this team will do when the pieces finally all fall into place. They will simply tear teams apart and man will it be glorious to watch
Yzerman191 37 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 haha What, going to piss and moan about the need for an enforcer, even though there's no chance in hell Downey is on the ice in the last 30 seconds of a one-goal game?

Dude... no way the Wings can sign Hossa AND Franzen without a miracle- I have a spreadsheet I tried to make it work in. Dumping Filppula's albatross of a contract would let Holland keep Hossa, Hudler and Sammy while keeping a decent enough cushion in the cap.
Yzerman191 37 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 I'm not sure I'm following your logic. It's inside the rules for Jovo to punch Z in the lower back knowing full well that he's just recovering from an injury to the area? Being frustrated because a stupid penalty just cost you the game doesn't excuse that bulls***. Nobody likes a sore loser.
Kira 451 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 We got some pretty chintzy calls tonight, but the worst was that phantom icing call. You had to be there to hear and see the uproar that place was in. Oh boy, that place went ballistic. I love watching Gretzky blowing a fuse on tv, but it's absolutely hilarious to see it live. I swear to God, he needs a cheese factory to go with all his whines. Well, unfortunately, the six goal charm didn't work tonight but the winning streak still is intact. Four games, four wins. Not half bad. And I was also one of the people who were wondering why we didn't put Ty in. Ozzie was abysmal tonight.

hillbillywingsfan 794 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 got to love the yotes fans "I don't think you give enough credit to players and their memories. I remember very specifically after game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals between Detroit and Pittsburgh where Gary Roberts blatantly pushed/punched Franzen in the head (it was his first game back from a concussion). Well, they asked Doan about it on the radio (Gambo and Ash perhaps) and I was expecting him to say Roberts was probably upset, and trying to set the tone for the next game or send a message that Pittsburgh wasn't going to take this lying down, but ultimately you don't want to see that sort of thing in the game. You know what he said? He said (I'm paraphrasing as this was a year ago) Detroit has a lot of guys who will cheapshot, facewash, run their mouths, and so on and so forth, but they don't drop the gloves, and when you have guys like Franzen who will be the first to dish out those sorts of cheapshots then they better expect to get them right back. Needless to say I thought that was awesome. But that's not my point here. The point is if a respected and pretty mild-mannered and honorable player like Shane Doan says that about Detroit, then you can rest assured it's true. Can I tell you specifically what Zetterberg did that warranted Jovo's crosscheck? I can't. Do I know it was necessarily a response to something that Zetterberg specifically did? I don't. But there's a general idea here that Detroit can be a cheap, dirty team, and obviously that frustrates the old school, actual tough players in the league like a Shane Doan, Gary Roberts, Jovo, etc. Guys like that are the heart and soul warriors that made this game so great, and nowadays you have a bunch of pansies who run their mouths and get away with facewashes, stickwork, etc. because they know they'll never have to be held accountable. Jovo's frustration was likely a direct response to that, and it sends a message that if Detroit thinks they can keep getting away with that nonsense that they might just have another thing coming."
