Son of a Wing 1,644 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 Link Blues put Legace on waivers By Jeremy Rutherford ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH 02/06/2009 The Blues placed goaltender Manny Legace on waivers this morning, the Post-Dispatch has learned. The team will know this weekend whether Legace has been claimed by another team. If he is not, Legace will be sent to Peoria. "It's extremely tough," Legace said this morning. "You play your heart out for a team, and the minute you hit a little bit of a rough patch, they dump on you. "It was very hard to hear." Legace is 13-9-2 this season with a 3.18 goals-against average and an .885 save-percentage.

seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 He has such a horrible, defeatist attitude - I am so glad he is no longer with the Wings. That's not a defeatist attitude. He's just really hard on himself. Sucks for Manny.
C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 He has such a horrible, defeatist attitude - I am so glad he is no longer with the Wings. This. He calls himself the worst player in the league the night he played us, then acts like a jilted girlfriend when this happens. If he believed what he said, this shouldn't be a shock, right? NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 That's not a defeatist attitude. He's just really hard on himself. Sucks for Manny. Therein lies the problem. While no team wants a goalie who passes the blame onto his teammates, equally they don't want a guy that's always down on himself and doesn't exude confidence to the 18 guys in front of him. While no team wants a goalie who passes the blame onto his teammates, equally they don't want a guy that's always down on himself and doesn't exude confidence to the 18 guys in front of him. I think that Manny's personality is such that he doesn't necessarily actually feel like every loss is his fault, but he feels better if he can try to make his teammates feel better about it by shouldering the blame himself. You have to appreciate that if you're on a team with him, I'd imagine.

You have to appreciate that if you're on a team with him, I'd imagine. Even if that were the case, it still doesn't radiate confidence with the guys in front of him. If your goalie called himself the "worst player in the league", how would you feel or play in front of him? My guess would be nervous and tentative. You can't have that at the NHL level...you'll be picked apart not just off the ice but on it as well.

gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 And this is shocking in no way, shape or form. He never should've been a starter. Some people need to accept who and what they are.

I didn't mean to say it's necessarily a good thing as far as playing is concerned, just that since that's the kind of guy Manny is, it makes me feel for him that much more that he's being waived. Chunkylover 26 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 Definitely feel bad for him. He's done real well for them since they acquired him, but every goal he let in against us on Monday was terrible and he alone bears the blame for them. I remember when he was mic'd up for the All-Star game last year he did have this "Eeyore" kind of attitude where he either didn't take things seriously or became over-critical of himself. If he was my teammate, I'd feel for him and try my best to help him, but that kind of defeatism would be a blackhole to the rest of the team.

StevieY9802 6 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 He'll probably say he deserved another chance like he did when the Wings let him go in 06. That bugged me back then. You had two chances, 04 & 06, and blew it both times. Cujo bailed you out in 04 and you probably would have been yanked in game 5 against the Oilers had Ozzie not been hurt. He's had a good career as a backup regular season goalie and that's about it.

Gotcha. Now that being said, while this doesn't seem to be Manny's personality he would probably greatly benefit from an attitude adjustment. Even though people don't change, the attitude in which he approaches his job could make a difference in this happening again.
