chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 Even if that were the case, it still doesn't radiate confidence with the guys in front of him. If your goalie called himself the "worst player in the league", how would you feel or play in front of him? My guess would be nervous and tentative. You can't have that at the NHL level...you'll be picked apart not just off the ice but on it as well. You guys are misinterpretting the sound bite. The election is over, you have to actually read the entire quote. He said on Monday that he played that night like the worst player in the league. That's alot difference than saying that he is the worst player in the league overall “Guys played great and I’m the reason that we lost,” Legace said. “I was the worst guy in the NHL tonight.”

That's alot difference than saying that he is the worst player in the league overall “Guys played great and I’m the reason that we lost,” Legace said. “I was the worst guy in the NHL tonight.” I'm not misinterpreting anything. I read the quote and know exactly what he said. The fact of the matter is this isn't the first time these types of comments have come out of Manny's mouth. Most Wings fans aren't as focused on Legace anymore since he's been ushered out of Detroit, but these types of comments are still coming from Manny....and way more often than they should. I most certainly wasn't changing the context of his quotation, because this isn't the first time he's said something like this. If it was, that would be a different story and I wouldn't have stated it like I did. My point is that making comments like, "I was the worst player in the league tonight" and "if we (the Wings) get eliminated from the playoffs, its because of me" too often absolutely sends the wrong message. ....And that's why he was placed on waivers. egroen 384 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 You act like what he says matters more than how he plays. I think it matters a lot more when the player is your goalie or quarterback... you want these guys to be a bit cocky and definitely very confident. Legace was a lot like Joey Harrington. drwscc 212 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 Manny has always been a negative Nelly. Doesn't look like the change of scenery has done him any good. Maybe some time in Peoria will help him out.
BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 Manny is just a too nice of a guy. Exactly. Nobody likes being fired and I don't want to see it happen to anybody. But man, you gotta toughen up if you're going to compete at the highest level in professional athletics.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 Nah, Joey Blue Skies was endlessly optimistic. He was a good dude, just not talented enough to be a starting QB, and certainly unable to pull it off surrounded by the team that he was. Manny... egads. I'll never forget it, I was there, near the glass, during Game 2 of the '06 WCQs. I had the best view in the house of Legace reaching and missing an unscreened floating wrister from above the top of the circles. It killed me and it killed the team. kylee 727 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 I've never been a Manny fan, but I do feel for the guy. agreed. he seems a bit tooo hard on himself as a goalie. hopefully someone picks him up and he can split time as a starter or something that wont make him want to kill himself. GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 I've never forgiven him for what happened in 2006. I'm glad this happened, and I hope he winds up in the Siberian League, or some s*** like that. You're not gonna see me feeling sorry for Manny.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 He has such a horrible, defeatist attitude - I am so glad he is no longer with the Wings. Me, too. I really liked him when he was here (but then again I was totally unaware of his primadonna behavior) but man, what a bad attitude. Go feel sorry for yourself in the minors. TheWestWing 71 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 (edited) Man this is one myopic group here. So Manny said he sucked. He did. Babs sez NoGood sux. He did. But when the coach sez it it's suppose to be 'motivation' huh? Maybe Manny was just being preemptive... This guy went 35-8 for us. Yep, I know - I saw the playoffs too. But the Wings hung him out to dry by not resigning him. Was he his own worst enemy? I dunno. Guess he coulda been more judicious with his comments. I guess NYI may take him - maybe not. We should. Cuz NoGood sez 'I've felt 100% since Christmas' and I see nothing to date that he's anywhere near turning it around. He's not getting worse - just not playing any better. Rotate 3 goalies if that's what it will take cuz right now I have little confidence in this team playing in late May. Sincerely hope I'm wrong. Really. He signed and delivered his own pink-slip after his postseason meltdown, and it had nothing to do with his words. His actions were far, far more powerful than anything he could have said. puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 Manny is just a too nice of a guy. Isn't that the truth? His happiest days were when he was backing up a #1 goalie and could shine, without taking the heat that goes along with being the main man. I love the guy, and am sorry he's had a tough time. Wish you the best, Manny, where ever you end up.

shoe 165 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 True, hadn't considered that. Burkie then? The leafs eh that would be interesting they didnt even take Curtis Joseph to Buffalo with them, when Toskola is all messed up with some secret groin/hip injury he played through almost every game the last half of last season and has re-emerged. somethings up with their goaltending situation. But if the leafs took him he would just become another leaf with a career that just went poof.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 Just depends if any lower wants him. Uhhh....that was my point. The Caps have the 4th worst waiver wire position. He won't be left available when they'd have a shot at him.
T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted February 6, 2009 Sometimes a goalie just needs a hug from his Forwards. Wasn't he an All-Star last year? He hasn't been the same guy ever since he got injured in Sarah Palin's carpet. I don't feel bad for him. I have a hunch that he will still make quite a bit more money than I make, even when he goes to Peoria. What kind of car does he usually drive to practice?
