We can only hope that they run themselves out of gas like they usually do. Cause as of right now, I have a hard time believing the Wings could beat them in a seven games series. On NHL Home Ice the other day, Espo and Ross were talking about not being able to picture the Sharks losing more than 2 in a row since they "weren't that kind of team", but could totally picture the Wings doing it (as they had just come off the 5-game losing streak). The f*** kinda statement is that? I wouldn't make that declaration about the 2007 Patriots. Not that kinda team... who says that? To lose more than two in a row. That's got to be the most preposterous thing I've ever heard. I'm totally baffled that someone would say that. EDIT: Really. Has any team in history gone a season without 3 L's in a row? Home ice in a series against the Sharks would help us a lot, and that's because they are unbelievable at home. We need to keep winning, and they need to keep losing. Columbus has written the book on beating San Jose when they've played them in Columbus this year (I fully understand they lost both games to SJ in SJ).... pressure the puck and most importantly, be physical with their playmakers like Thornton and Setiguchi and Marlowe. They hate being hit and it showed tonight. Columbus came out and was physical with them and San Jose had no rhythm all night long. If SJ had been playing a team with any real consistent offense outside of Rick Nash they would have lost 5-2 or something like that. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Most of the jocks on NHL Home Ice have been unabashedly loving the Sharks lately as though they're invincible. I mean, they still give other teams like the Wings, Caps and B's credit where credit is due (hell, they've even been giving props to the Stars lately for turning the corner), but that day, that statement...it baffled me too, especially from Espo who should know better. The Sharks are doing fantastically in the regular season, there's no doubting that...but they still need to shake the playoff-choker label that they've earned (much like we had to). It's not like the era of the Gretzky Oilers or the Trottier Islanders, and even those teams had losing streaks. They like to use terms of the Sharks being 'unstoppable' and 'unbeatable'. And then to say, but the Wings will be there too! The whipping boys this year by them are almost always Toronto and Ottawa! Remember in 06-07 when we spent most of the season behind Nashville? The difference between beating San Jose, and losing will come down to goaltending. You could argue that their D and our D are equally good, and perhaps our offense is a little better, but goaltending, anyone would take Nabokov over Conklin or Ozzy. And out scoring San Jose doesn't sound like a great plan for a 7 game series. Conklin and Osgood need to step their games up big time, bad D or not. A week from the trade deadline, if Ozzy and Conklin still are letting in 3 goals every game, Holland has got to make a move. Things aren't going to magically improve overnight. SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted February 8, 2009 Neato for the Wings cause in the standings obviously, yeah I want the Wings to finish #1 in the standings, but it is slim/none that these teams finishing anything besides #1/#2 in the Western Conference, so a losing streak here or there probably isn't going to mean much in the grand scheme of things, at least standings-wise. Teams still do look up at the Red Wings. Just because we're 3rd overall in the standings doesn't mean we aren't good anymore. Remember when there was like 14 seconds left in the Chicago game and Franzen scored to tie it up? We're lacking motivation. Goal tending can be fixed.
