mjlegend 155 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 The Edmonton Journal claims source says Jagr is close to signing with Edmonton: http://communities.canada.com/edmontonjour...ton-oilers.aspx Pierre LeBrun: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?...e=lebrun_pierre Oilers denial: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=266555&...=headlines_main He would appear to have to go through waivers to actually play. In layman's terms, what would be the reason for that?

kylee 727 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 Why would Kenny be interested in Jagr? Did the stick boy quit? lol i was really just kidding but id want jagr here on a next to nothing deal. and to be fair he did put up 71 points last year so if a stick boy can bring that kind of game to the ice.... LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 Hmmmmm, Jagr? Anyone have his stats from Russia? Not that if he DID have to go through waivers he would fal to Detroit anyhow, but I think for a couple of hundreds of thousands dollars he would look good in Detroit. I don't think he would put Edmonton over the top though. But it couldn't hurt. Would suck if Chicago, Calgary, San Jose or Anaheim got a hold of him though. Yikes! whitneydatsyukrox 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 That would be great for Edmonton if they could get Jagr somehow! Certainly wouldn't make them Cup contenders, but at least make them better than 9th in the conference. Until the Rangers were near elimination this past season, he was the top playoff scorer if my memory serves me correctly. Still an absolute beast when called upon! IF there is any truth here, I would bet he would be making league max, making it more likely for him to pass through waivers.
CenterIce 83 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 (edited) Isn't there a cut-off date where no one can be brought over from Europe past that date? I thought that was put into the CBA. Edit: My bad I was thinking of something else. I was wrong. Edited February 10, 2009 by CenterIce

Edit: My bad I was thinking of something else. I was wrong. Trade deadline. The problem might be getting released from his Russian contract. Actually, he would have to be signed by March 3rd so that he could be cleared through waivers by March 4th.
lets go pavel 2 Report post Posted February 10, 2009 Just out of curiosity, could someone explain why he would have to clear waivers? Sundin and Lemieux didn't have to go through waivers, did they? I'm unfamiliar with how all of that works ...

I'm unfamiliar with how all of that works ... If you play in Europe and then sign to play in the NHL in the same season, you have to clear waivers to join the team you signed with. Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted February 11, 2009 Why would Kenny be interested in Jagr? Did the stick boy quit? Did you watch the playoffs last year? Against the Pens Jagr was actually the best player on the ice in the last two games. Although, as we all know, the Red Wings would be third from the bottom in waiver wire pecking order. mjlegend 155 Report post Posted February 11, 2009 Oilers fans have been moaning for a couple of years now that they've needed someone to "play with Hemsky" (as if he's some sort of mercurial anti-gravity force who would score tons of points if his linemates were able to keep up with him). Since they're both RWs, I don't see how this helps them in that regard, but if he signs for the rumoured 2 years/14 million it's not really that bad of a gamble to switch one to LW. Wingsallwin 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2009 First of all, Jagr should not be interested to be the Wings because he may want to play as a core player. Besides, as the example of slump of Sundin in the Canucks, Kenny will never sign him. If he comes back to the NHL, the arrival should be at Pittsburgh I think. If he goes to the Oilers, thats probably the occasion that he only wants a big amount of money. The Oilers has the worst coach in the league and many of their fans dumped the Oilers already this season as always.
martyrme19 73 Report post Posted February 11, 2009 you guys remember what happened to that islanders goalie that colombus picked up? He was playing in a league in Europe as well and when NYI wanted him back.....even the goalie (dubliewicz??) was suprised to hear he was claimed by the jackets. He had to go through waivers just as Jagr would.
