After todays game against the Av's, Hossa has 33 goals. He is now 17 goals away from 50. we have 25 games left! Does anyone think that he could get 50 this year?? I think he could! He is a big time scorer at home, and we 14 home games left!!

He very well could, but he would have to remain on absolute fire and then some. I also think it would be an easier feat if he was put back on a line with Hank or Dats. That's just a guess though, he is playing out of his mind right now so there is no need to change a thing.

Its funny. It seems like everyones plan for Hossa was that, as a premier goal scorer, he should have a premier center setting him up - either Datsyuk or Zetterberg. But whats weird is that Hossa seems to function better with lesser players. Its as if having Hank or Datsyuk on his line didn't allow him to dictate the play like he wanted to. I'd be interested to see what his numbers look like when hes NOT playing with either or Hank or Datsyuk, at even strength OR the powerplay.

This is what I love about Hossa. The guy could score 40 goals if he was being centered by Draper, Filppula, Franzen, or Helm - as long as its a guy who gets him the puck and stays out of his way. The majority of his production comes from the work he does all on his own.

Now that hes "on his own" so to speak, I think he might actually stay as hot as he is. In reality, I doubt 50 goals, but I'm gonna anticipate 45-48 easily.

He could come close. Since he's already got 33 goals in 57 games, that puts him on a pace to score 47 goals...if he keep up that pace. I don't see any reason why he should slow down. If anything, there's lots of evidence to show that he might even increase the production a bit down the stretch, being more and more comfortable with the Wings' system. You never know, but asking him to score 17 more goals in the last 25 games of the regular season is quite a bit....I'd almost prefer he save some for the playoffs, but we'll see what happens!

Well I think it helps that Fil is, as Babs says, "maybe the best skater at center on the team." In terms of the give and go play, Fil might be the best fit for Hossa amongst the centers on the team. I think it might look like Fil isn't doing much because he's in good position for a drop pass or what have you due to his skating ability, which allows him to keep up with Hossa. It also probably helps that Fil's willing to give up the puck a little earlier in the rush in comparison to Pav.

Now, Draper? Doubt it. I'm not sure if he has the vision to initiate the kind of pass back to the blue line that led to Hossa's second goal against COL. Franzen? It seems to me that he's just not all that confident in his passing ability. He's more like Zetterberg in which he'd rather take it to the net and then dish. Helm? Maybe. I honestly haven't seen enough of his play, even going back to last year.

i completely agree with this assesment. it doesn't seem to be an ego thing--i don't get the impression that he needs to be the one big guy in the dressing room...just that his style of play works better when he knows he's the big guy on the line. i would guess that knowing he's playing with world-class players makes him less inclined to just do it all his own because he knows he can and maybe feel that he SHOULD make plays with the other guys. hank and dats, that's just how they play, but i don't think hossa is the same way. he's still probably looking for opportunities to make a play (note how he let the puck go to rafalski on his tip-in goal last night instead of just taking the puck himself there) but feel really comfortable just doing it on his own, which i think is when he's playing best.

that being said, i'd be really surprised if he hits 50. if he stays amazingly hot and gets, say, seven goals in the next five games (throw in a hattie here or there) then i wouldn't put it past him to get 10 in the last fifteen games. but seven if five is really tough, and even 10 in fifteen would be hard at that point.

i'd love to see it, though. go hossa!
