drwscc 212 Report post Posted February 19, 2009 Kopecky is there to provide HJ's and keep his boyfriend Marian Happy...no other reason. He's poop. King of the "skate into the offensive zone and take alow percentage shot into the goalies chest". KOPECKY YOU SUCK!!! Sounds alot like Sammy last year. Sammy is a hero this year. Hmmm.. chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted February 19, 2009 Everybody including myself thought the same thing about Dallas Drake last year.... until the playoffs started. How he plays in the regular season doesn't mean much. How he plays starting in mid-April is the key.
Carman 387 Report post Posted February 19, 2009 Dallas Drake had many years of experience of being a 4th line energy player. He knew that was his last chance for the cup, and played with every ounce of hockey blood in him to achieve his goal. It's not my place to say Kopecky won't have the same desire, but given Drake's experience it's a safe bet he knew the chance he has much more then Kopecky would. Comparing the two really isn't a fair assessment at all. Kopecky has done nothing so far this year to prove that he is even half of the hockey player Drake was. I do hope he flips around and starts laying bodies all over the ice, but considering his knee, and his god awful skating ability that has been seen this season I would be surprised if he manages to do anything in the postseason besides maybe skating into the goalie or blocking a breakout pass with his useless 6'3 stature. With that said, we can't send him down, he is cheap, young, and is better then many other teams 4th liners, therefore I hope he can turn the script around and come closer to hitting his "potential" this postseason. At least then we might be able to get a little better trade value for him . Bleh, there is always that player that stands out negatively, with all that said, be grateful we just have Kopecky. uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted February 19, 2009 Everybody including myself thought the same thing about Dallas Drake last year.... until the playoffs started. By this time last year, Drake has already had several highlight hits as well as 4 fights, and most of the time he was playing with a full/half shield due to whatever injury he sustained which made Downey kick Maclaren's ass

eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted February 19, 2009 We need a poll on whether Kopecky returns if we sign Marian. lol Kopecky will sign with the Wings for the league minimum. He is better than anyone the Wings could realistically hope to sign for the same salary from another team this offseason with the intent of replacing him. It is probably more likely that Kopecky returns than Hossa does.

He's played almost 200 games now and hasn't done a ******* thing in that time. He has the stats of a professional enforcer, despite his inability to provide anything gritty to a team desperately in need.

He's played almost 200 games now and hasn't done a ******* thing in that time. He has the stats of a professional enforcer, despite his inability to provide anything gritty to a team desperately in need. Actually when he 1st arrived as I have said many a times, he looked better then Abby did on his arrival. It was against the Flames and he was leveling everything in sight, he even nailed Phaneuf, plenty of people were impressed. Then when he made the team he wasn't doing great but he wasn't bad at all, eventually the injury bug set in and here we are. I mean I am ticked at Kopecky for the Jackets game where he could have had Commedore off the ice for fighting if he just would have hugged him for a min. But to think all these injuries haven't affected his play is just simply wrong, do I know if he will ever comeback to how he was? No but he surely isn't the biggest problem on the 4th line especially for his cap hit. Kopecky has shown at the very least he can be a plug on any line and has decent PK abilities. I also think it is just pure hate of the guy if you can't admit he has been playing much better lately. Keep in mind 2 things, lately he has played with some younger players; interesting. Also he came back how early from his knee injury like 6 months or so, maybe he is now getting a bit stronger. He actually knocked Shea Weber on his ass last night which was impressive, so give him a little bit of time. I have seen threads bashing Sammy/Flip/Kopecky all on offense or the 4th line as a whole. Why no hate for Draper he offers nothing but maybe one more face off win and now horrid defense. Or Maltby who plays decent defense, hits maybe even softer then Kopecky and gets paid more...... Guest CaliWingsNut Report post Posted February 19, 2009 Kopecky isn't just a random scapegoat like Samuelsson has been in the past, he's the worst player on the current roster with no area of specialty at all that never does anything to redeem himself. Every player on this team has at least 1 specific aspect of the game that they excel at, except for Kopecky. He is the definition of filler. I don't see the fear of losing him to waivers at all. The LA kings picked up quincey from us not even having watched him before...
Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted February 19, 2009 The LA kings picked up quincey from us not even having watched him before... Yep. Other teams know that the Wings make good talent. The Wings garbage is their treasure.
therock48880 14 Report post Posted February 19, 2009 I agree that he needs to get his knee back. It's just that every time I notice him he's falling down. How good was his skating and balance before the injury? He was skating quite well before his injury. People are so quick to forget how well he was playing before he got hurt. Most players with that type of knee injury don't fully recover for two years. Jiri Fischer is the most recent example. He came back the next year and played terribly. http://blog.mlive.com/state_sports/2008/04...ps_red_win.html
Mors 201 Report post Posted February 19, 2009 The LA kings picked up quincey from us not even having watched him before... I don't doubt someone would pick him up, my meaning is that I don't see the fear in losing him because he's easily replaced and we have much greater talent waiting in line...we can afford to let him go. Kopecky hasn't proven anything, except that he knows how to crash face first into the boards or get knocked on his ass after a bodycheck.

union drone 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 Edit: Likely by some crapass team like Atlanta where he'd get 3rd or sometimes even 2nd line minutes and PK, possibly PP time, where he then puts up a 30 point season worthy amount of production for the remainder season, and everyone here gets yet another reminder that even the "spare" players on the Wings roster are quality players elsewhere. 3 months later, threads emerge about how stupid the Wings were to let him go instead of (insert current scapegoat). Something to add to the mix: In Kopecky last season in GR before getting to play in Detroit full time, his stats looked like this: GP=77 G=32 A=40 Plus/Minus=+24 PM=123 It seems to me that every week there are complaints that some prospect [insert one of many names here] deserves a shot and is going to be the next best thing wearing the winged wheel. Well, sometimes it does happen, sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes things don't gel the way we'd like. I wouldn't be surprised that in the right environment, Kopay turns into a bona fide top six power forward. Also, it would not surprise me if his progress is stunted and he is never anything more than a role player.
DuckSoup13 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 I'm glad to see almost all of you are on the same page as me in regards to Kopecky. I don't like to bash my squad but it's getting downright frusterating seeing him play night in and night out with no results, especially in front of the GR guys we've mentioned. Maybe Kenny will read this and will vote with the people and find a way to replace him ASAP!
