2009 NHL Trade Deadline Thread

Everyone, the Wings aren't trading for a goalie. Aside from the fact that KH came out and said so, it doesn't make sense. An upgrade from our current goaltending situation would cost millions more than we can afford. You cannot get a 2-time Cup winning goalie for Osgood's price. So why would Kenny change that?

Bingo. You can't get an upgrade over Osgood or Conklin for what the Wings can afford.

Making a trade for the sake of making one isn't a good strategy. I certainly don't want the wings to give up picks for a depth player.

Trust in Ken Holland. He will make the right call.

Yeah I don't udnerstand. After everthing we've seen post-lockout people still rip into Kenny and think he NEEDS to make a trade. He didn't go and spend money and useless players in the summer of 07, like many in here kept yelling for him to do, and then went and got Stuart at the deadline and the Wings win the Cup.

If Detroit doesn't "need" a goalie then no team has ever needed one ever.

And who will the Wings pick up who is an upgrade over the two goalies they have now that is affordable with their cap situation?

A checker is a possibility and clearly the most popular among the fans. But I think we'll move for a stay-at-home defenseman.

But they have like 8 d-men. Lids, Rafalski, Kronner, Stuart, Lebda, Cheli, Lilja and Meech. Where would another dman fit in? I know people in here don't lke Lilja but the Wings do so if he's healthy he's probably playing. I don't see a dman fitting in.

just cuz holland said hes not tradin for a goalie doesn't mean a damn thing.

And the same response I had to someone above.. who do they get that's an upgrade for a low cap number?

He played a major part of the season in getting them to the playoffs. Without his contribution, they don't even make it. IMHO it should count and it does. I think its cheap of anyone to slight any player like that. Especially someone who did his job and maybe got injured in the first round of playoffs and was unable to compete.

My apologies. Next time I'll be more sensitive to your defintion of a Cup-winning goalie.

I agree no way Lilja is leaving, he is great for this team. No he wouldn't be great for Lids money or even for Little Nick's money but I don't think they will get rid of the best shot blocker on the team, one of the best PK Dmen, and a (mostly) solid stay at home defense man whose cap hit is only $1.25M. I can't see anyone we could trade for who offers as much without taking a much bigger cap hit which we don't have.

Just throwing it out there, rumours about Clemmenson being available ($500K) So we could theoretically afford him. His contract also runs out at the end of the year, which would say we could let him walk next year.

That being said, I have confidence in our goaltending situation, and think that it's been getting better as the year goes on. Osgood still gets me a little nervous, but not enough to waste a trade on.

Ian Lapierre! Please Holland? He's exactly the Drake type we need on the 4th line!

I'd like the Wings to get him, too. But the thing is, he wants to stay in Colorado. So the Avs aren't operating under a "move him or lose him" stance. But maybe they'd take a pick or weak prospect for him as it stands, knowing they can just re-sign him in the summer.

In my mind, lappy is even more appealing than Drake because of the way hes been killing penalties. Hes a great PKer, which would allow the Wings to keep their offensive stars even more fresh in the playoffs with lesser PK time. Babs manages the PK time well as it is, but with the way our PK has had a penchant to implode at times, plus the added grit and energy Lappy brings, it'd be a good pick-up should it not cost too much.

With everyone healtyhy Red Wings have 14-15 forwards for 12 roster spots. Where would you put Laperriere or Roberts or Neil? Ottawa wants 2nd round draft pick for a 4th line player. None of those player bring more than what Maltby, Draper, Helm, Kopecky, Leino or Abdelkader do.

AO possibly hurt....

He was probably celebrating one of his practice goals, and then the other four guys on his line jumped on him and began celebrating!! LOL Just kidding!!

But NHL Network said it was a foot injury and he was helped off the ice!!

Seriously I like AO, they just need to chill on the goal celebration especially when your down 5-1.

Lappy and Neil bring the pain. Maltby forgot how to check, draper forgot how to play defense. Any tough hitter would be a solid addition. But unfortunately it wont happen.

... maybe Roberts because of age doesnt, but Neil and Lappy are more impact players then any of them. Leino is the most talented of all of them, but I'd take Neil or Lappy over him in the playoffs, those 2 are playoff players.

Neil is out of the picture. Holland already said so. The Avs won't ask for a 2nd for Lappy, and if they do then no deal - its as simple as that. But I would honestly take Lappy over any one of those guys - even Helm. Hes more physical than all of them, and is as good a PKer as Draper is (if not better this year). And then theres the experience factor. If somehow he comes at the price of a 4th rounder or a weak prospect, then I would hope Holland would snap him up.

Was he on the ice for that goal? I didn't think he was. Doesn't detract from your point though.

Roberts probably won't happen, but Neil and Laperriere bring a level of physicality higher than what Maltby and co. can aspire to. They also score some goals too.
