DMAC 25 18 Report post Posted February 26, 2009 Atlanta Thrashers Happy homecoming, so far 7:48 pm February 24, 2009, by mknobler After going 2-1-1 on their longest road trip of the year, the Thrashers lead 3-1 through one period of Tuesday night’s home game against the Colorado Avalanche. The Kings, Red Wings and Blackhawks are here scouting this one. The Thrashers looked shaky defensively in the first 90 seconds but then, bang-bang-bang built a 3-0 lead, before giving up a power play goal near the end of the period. Atlanta goals by Enstrom, Kovalchuk and Reasoner. Colorado goal by Hejduk. __________ Who could they be checking out? Laperriere? Armstrong? Those are my two guess's. Both are making around 1mil. We would have to move a player or two (meech, Kopy, Cheli, Sammy????) but the grit would be nice. Either one could play the role that Dallas Drake gave us last year. What does everyone else think? something i dont get is why wont they bring downey up. yes i know we would have to take a chance because he doesnt do much besides be an enforcer but it save detroit the trouble of making a trade. haha and i'm watching the game right now and its getting pretty ugly and it would help to have more of an enforcer haha just thought i would say that

If detroit ever gets an enforcer it's going to be a bob probert type that can actually play instead of box.
wingsdiehard13 33 Report post Posted February 26, 2009 I would totally surprised if the Wings do anything at the deadline. Could we afford (cap) to trade picks for another roster player for the playoffs? Then whay happns if he turns out like Stuart and becomes a huge part of a Stanley Cup repeat? Then we are really screwed! We have enough room to aquire around a 3 million dollar contract in pro-rated salary.
Donaldjr2448 43 Report post Posted February 26, 2009 I personally think that they were looking at Colorado (which we play nextweek) and also Atlanta, who we play on March 20th!! I would be shocked if we make a trade this year!!!
miller76 463 Report post Posted February 26, 2009 Laperriere in a Wings jersey makes want to f_cking vomit! I could only hope Leopold was why they may have been there.

xBrave_Heartx 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2009 Downey doesn't have the skill set to match the red wings play style. If detroit ever gets an enforcer it's going to be a bob probert type that can actually play instead of box. Neil fits this perfectly.. Maybe Laraque who has already being mad about lack of PT, feeling like he made bad descision about signing in MTL in off season.. Voros could be good also. He's been reported to be on the block in New yourk, not a legit enforcer.. but he'd be fine.. Lappy would be awesome, but i still couldn't imagine a ave being a wing.. ever.. Other then that, Boll is off limits for sure. BJ Crombeen we already had a shot at and didn't pick him up.

Downey didn't prevent the Wings from doing anything skill wise when he was in the lineup. And there are no enforcers like Bob Probert. I hate these types of posts. And there are no enforcers like Bob Probert. I hate these types of posts. Well you beat me to it, because I hate this kind of BS posts too. First of all, "the skill set" you speak of doesn't need to be on a fourth line that skates for 5 minutes a game. They need to be out there crashing, banging, and wearing the other team down. When Downey was up, and his line was on the ice, that was the loudest I've heard the Joe all year. That's a game we lost. He brings something the Wings don't have anymore, something the fans wanna see, and teammates feed off of. Isn't it enough to have 3 forward lines with an insane amount of skill? Can't we just have one energy line where the other team has to keep their heads up? It's my firm belief that the Wings would have had more intensity this season if they had a guy to push back on a regular basis. That's why I still think Dallas Drake was a big loss for us. Intangibles are so unappreciated.
Carman 387 Report post Posted February 26, 2009 Have you seen Downey in GR? The guy is making no effort to improve. I'm all for getting Neil though, but man Downey just doesn't seem to want it, there is a reason he almost retired last season. Stop being mindless fans and wanting to waste a roster spot on a UFC fighter. I'm one of the biggest supporters of going after Neil, but I'll refuse to act like I want a pure goon in the line-up from what I've seen this season. The Red Wings last night proved they could play physically against a bigger team. Although I do feel adding Neil would help during a longer series.

Aren't we wasting a roster spot on a beanbag named Thomas Kopecky?
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted February 26, 2009 I get the arguments for Downey. However, with the emergence of Helm and Leino, who is there really on this team that should sit in favor of Downey? Kopecky is the obvious answer, but when Homer comes back then somebody else has to go out as well. There's no place for Downey, especially during the playoffs. Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted February 26, 2009 Aren't we wasting a roster spot on a beanbag named Thomas Kopecky? I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that he's 3rd on the team in hits.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted February 26, 2009 I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that he's 3rd on the team in hits. He couldn't hit up a bong. His hits are a misleading stat, since he's usually the one who falls down after a hit.
