xBrave_Heartx 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2009 We'll land Chris Neil at the trade deadline. Before the dead line, everyone knew we were targetting Brad Stuart.. and to this day, it seems like the only player thats even being talked about for Detroit is Chris Neil.. We cant give up a 2nd rounder, so im guessing a 3rd and a prospect? or just a prospect straight up.. It would be a huge boost to our 4th line.. Come playoffs we could do alot of things. Chirping, Energy Malts - Drapes - Neil Hitting, Energy Kopecky - Drapes - Neil Skilled, Energy Leino - Kopecky - Neil Hahah i tottaly used Kopecky and Skill in the same sentance.. harsh.. It's my gut feeling, Anyone else have gut feelings on who we might grab? I'm also thinking Kari Lethonen. Everyone is counting him out, being made of glass. But he came into the league with high expectations on a crap team, Detroit would ground him, not work him to death.. I think we could pull it off.. The salary would be the bug-a-boo. Anyone feel similar? or not at all
ben_usmc 253 Report post Posted February 25, 2009 Detroit will only make one move and won't give up a roster player for that move, it's not there style

Guest Crymson Report post Posted February 25, 2009 That was a very rare move, and it was one made up by Williams's virtual unwillingness to play the game of hockey after the Torres affair. It is indeed not the style of the management to trade away roster players.
ManLuv4Clears 7 Report post Posted February 25, 2009 I hope your gut feeling is right, because it wouldn't hurt to have a little spark before playoff time. Standing pat may not be in the team's best interest.

Chunkylover 26 Report post Posted February 25, 2009 Depending on the price, it could be a good move to acquire Neil. He'd definitely bring a spark, I'm just not certain that spark will inspire the team to play better defense. If he can, or if they just flip a switch and start playing better D on their own, it really doesn't matter who is in net. I don't think we need Lehtonen. He'd cost too much. Although it is Don Waddell down there. Kopecky and our 2015 ninth-round pick?

It is indeed not the style of the management to trade away roster players. Eh, they've dealt other slugs like Sean Avery when the opportunity's presented itself, and in eras past dealt a pretty good top 4 Dman in Anders Eriksson for an much better top 4 Dman in Chris Chelios. I don't think it's usually a winning team's "style" to deal roster players at all, being that they're winning and are more likely to deal futures for rental players instead. Kenny's a bit reluctant I think, for sure, lending to his loyal nature, but it sure isn't beneath him.

GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted February 25, 2009 (edited) My feeling is Havelid for depth on defense. I wouldn't mind seeing a Neil or Armstrong at the deadline, but with the way Helm and Leino have played, it seems unlikely for Holland to add another forward. I would be very satisfied with Havelid - I think he would be of great help to the defense. Edited February 25, 2009 by GoWings1905
Vincanni 1 Report post Posted February 25, 2009 A couple weeks ago I actually had the same gut feeling as I was looking over the Sens roster. This move wouldn't surprise me at all, but the more I think about it the less I'm expecting it to happen.

Would he be our #6 with Lilja, or is he good enough to move someone else down the depth chart? If we don't get him I still think we have an enviable defense corps. If we don't get him I still think we have an enviable defense corps. Havelid plays 20 minutes per game for Atlanta, although they clearly are much weaker on defense than the Red Wings. I think the Red Wings defense can be great even without Havelid, but they have yet to play with any consistency this season and we are approaching a month from the playoffs. I would feel better with another depth addition, especially with Stuart recovering from an injury. If the Red Wings defense decides to plays like last season, then Havelid is by no means necessary. I just don't feel very safe with this current defensive unit come playoff time.

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted February 25, 2009 (edited) Neil is the name I hear mentioned most all over the place. Rumors have a way of being wrong 99% of the time, so I don't know if we'll get him. But he's certainly the most talked about from the Wings fans P.O.V. EDIT: Does Hossa have any friends back in Atlanta? That might be a good indicator. I doubt the Wings will stand pat, judging from comments Holland has made, but we A) Won't deal for a goalie and B) Won't make a major deal. Depth. Whether it's D or some gritty offense, is the name of the game. If we add either one we will probably get rid of someone, whether it's our style or not. There's just not enough room. For example, if we get Havelid, we have to bump down Kronner or Stuart. Unlikely and those two don't deserve it. More likely is we somehow get rid of Lebda to make room. Perhaps Lebda for a low pick from a team in need of a speedy defenseman? Edited February 25, 2009 by VM1138

Anyone feel similar? or not at all I know one thing we do have a cloud over our goaltending. There's only two ways to address it. One find someone maybe Lehtonen, you might be rigth here he might have a shot at it ; or another netminder. If not that then a stay home physical defenseman. I would be very satisfied with Havelid - I think he would be of great help to the defense. Indeed, the team is fine in the forward front. I hope Kenny gets a big bruiser defenseman to help against teams like Sharks who are big and can push our team's defensemen around in front of the net. This season the defense has been especially vulnerable in boxing players out and losing the strength/tough battles down low.
mjlegend 155 Report post Posted February 25, 2009 My guts right now: Neil for a couple of high draft picks (second round 2009, third round 2010,) Havelid for a D prospect (Smith?). This could change with the trades the other teams in the conference make.

Neil for a couple of high draft picks (second round 2009, third round 2010,) I read somewhere recently that the asking price for Neil is a 2nd round pick... And apparently contract negotiations aren't going well, that won't help Ottawa as far as his value is concerned.....
