I Red Wings I 40 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 After Fedorov's goal, he raised his arms in the air, and two teammates came over to hug him. The trio wound up on the ice, a result that replays appeared to show was a result of Fedorov losing his balance. Boudreau, however, was upset at what he thought was an over-the-top celebration for a team en route to a loss. "That was pretty embarrassing," Washington's coach said. "I'm sure if I was on the Carolina bench, I'd be going: 'Look at these idiots."

"I'm sure if I was on the Carolina bench, I'd be going: 'Look at these idiots." I'm glad that Boudreau found it unacceptable. They might have some hope after all. They shouldn't be okay and laughing and having fun DURING a game against a terrible team that they're moments away from losing. That's bulls***. Their fans deserve better. Jersey Wing 1,521 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Forget Cherry, that's disrespectful to the other team. That's what they should consider first and foremost. Exactly
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 They have exactly zero chance at winning the Cup. NJ, Philly and Boston are the only chances from the East. Washington are hideously overrated. If you weren't such a good guy I'd save this as ammo for their inevitable cinderella run this spring. Never say never, brah. Doggy 130 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 If you weren't such a good guy I'd save this as ammo for their inevitable cinderella run this spring. Never say never, brah. Hey.... I never said never. Just not this year. They need to mature, not to mention get more defensively responsible. This ain't the Sens or the Canes, I like them and I'll gladly eat crow if they go all the way. They just frustrate me because I do like them and they're not complete enough and not serious enough. This celebration thing did kinda piss me off though, I must admit. No respect IMO. beepbeep 3 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 I can't stand Cherry but this is the ONE time I agree with the ******* Ovie does go overboard when he scores ............. Understandable if it's an overtime game winner or something along those lines but s*** every effing goal?????????? I have stopped watching Caps games because in my opinion it's embarrassing... kozac 10 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Yeah I was watching the game when Fedorov scored and the pile up looked pretty embarrassing, but upon further replay it really just looked like Fedorov lost his balance.
OsGOD 3 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 (edited) That is classic... and who the f*** cares what the other team (WINNING TEAM) thinks.... the losing team doing this IS what makes it all the better... blah blah blah since when do you care about the other team (the team beating you in battle) anyways?? thats just stupid. if that was the case why would you ever try to score at all... i mean what would they think if you broke their shut out?!?!?! OMFG!!! If the canse are too emotionally fragile to accept a 5-2 win and 2pts... then f*** em... they need to get over themselves Edited March 4, 2009 by OsGOD
hillbillywingsfan 794 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 (edited) disrespectful to the other team? wtf..what do you want them to all hold their pinkys in the air and go sip some tea and eat crumpets at the bench? its hockey for christ sake not polo. they were getting beat and when they score and are happy about it and show some emotion its disrespectful? hahahahahaha...maybe they should have apologized for scoring...*we are sorry mr canes players. we sorry we scored. *holding our heads down* hahahaha Edited March 4, 2009 by hillbillywingsfan
cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Final score: Carolina 5 Washington 2. So sorry about the two points and all; but, by all means, have your "complimentary celebration" instead. I guess that "goose pile" gave the Washington faithful something to talk about, instead of talking about their team losing. Put a tent over that circus! CanadaBoy 151 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Video of celebration?
shannyfan1414 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Couldn't find the celebration video. I did find video of the Semin goal, and it is pretty nice. Here it is!!
FireCaptain 563 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 They were showing the highlights on that sports show that comes on after postgame. Semin got smashed into the boards pretty bad earlier in the period before he scored the goal. Maybe the celebration was an answer to that.
hillbillywingsfan 794 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 he scored off of his damn knees and he can't be happy about that...you guys need to lose'n up a bit geez. hahahahahahah
kozac 10 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 They have exactly zero chance at winning the Cup. NJ, Philly and Boston are the only chances from the East. Washington are hideously overrated. Although I think New Jersey will come out of the east myself, don't be so quick to dismiss Washington and give them ZERO chance. Take a look at their season series against the opponents you've mentioned vs NJ: 2-0-2 vs BOS: 3-0-1 vs PHI: 1-
Dano33 41 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 If NHL players have their feelings hurt because of a celebration after a goal then they don't belong in the league. If they wanna celebrate, then let them. Does it really matter that much?
Mors 201 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 As I said earlier in the thread, Semin's goal was his 100th career goal...you should expect some celebrations for that. The other goal celebration was just dumb.
WingsFanInDC 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Being at the game when this happened, it was sort of a moral booster for the crowd. Given the latest slump, any goals scored by the caps is a godsend. Semin's 100th was nice, fed's goal was nice.. just nice to know it's not a shut out. Crowd has been anemic as of late, but hopefully things will turn around. Better to have the slump now than during the playoffs. B
Never_Retire_Steve 35 Report post Posted March 5, 2009 I don't understand this thread at all. Why are so many people on here praising the Caps and saying take that Cherry when they lost the game???? Isn't this exactly what Cherry is getting at. Does anyone argue that Washington has the best talent on their team with guys like Ovie, Semin, Green, Backstrom, etc. but until they care more about winning games and scoring goals what really matters? Cherry mentioned guys like Yzerman, Orr, etc. because they were true class and champions. When they actually win a playoff round then they can showboat all they want because they can back it up. Until then, if this happened with the Wings I would be extremely pissed off if guys like Dats & Z did this.
