Carman 387 Report post Posted March 9, 2009 (edited) Youtube video of him getting taken down by Sharp(Not a very good fighter) is pretty humorous. This is how Kopecky has been this year.(Granted this is last year=p) Edit: Linked the video, but it still works=P Edited March 9, 2009 by Carman

This is how Kopecky has been this year.(Granted this is last year=p) Edit: Linked the video, but it still works=P Take down has to be the most overrated part of a fight unless there is some sort of clear domination by it, ex: Rafalskis body slam. But when your getting punched in the face and you take someone down it really isn't that amazing. The last I'm not quite sure what showing Kopecky getting hit with a borderline check shows? But when your getting punched in the face and you take someone down it really isn't that amazing. The last I'm not quite sure what showing Kopecky getting hit with a borderline check shows? Yeah I'm not saying that Kopecky lost the fight he had some nice punches. Reading my comment over again I wasn't very clear on my points. I was speaking in a more broader sense that Kopecky this season isn't being as physical as he has been in the past(He is hitting, but the hits are more rub-outs then anything else -which is concerning to me since afterall he is 6' 3"), has some of the worst balance on skates that I've seen, and is generally very weak on his skates. I don't want to sound as a Kopecky hater, and if he can work on intensity and lower body strength-skating he can be a very good player, I just want to see improvement, and there hasn't been a lot on the physical side for him so far this year. Just my 2 cents...
Mors 201 Report post Posted March 9, 2009 LOL at the two known examples of Kopecky's "toughness" being brought up again. This turned into the other Kopecky thread somehow...
The Secret 304 Report post Posted March 9, 2009 Downey is a terrible hockey player, is a mediocre fighter (that's being generous), and offers little in terms of value to a team besides playing with the grit and being good in the locker room, apparently. Mors 201 Report post Posted March 9, 2009 Kopecky is a mediocre hockey player, is a terrible fighter (that's being generous), and offers little in terms of value to a team besides his cheap salary and letting Hossa stay at his house this season. Fixed.

Mediocre fighter? If he was a mediocre fighter, he would have been destroyed by Cam Janssen, instead of it being a fight of the year candidate. Downey is a heavyweight who's not in the top echelon. If that makes him mediocre, then you have a different ranking system than everyone else.

Just my 2 cents... yeah I would agree with that, I always bring this up but if anyone remembers his first call up a few years ago against the Flames he was a machine, and destroyed everyone on the ice. Now his hitting is pretty bad and he no longer fights at all. But I wonder if the hitting has more to do with his leg injury, I say this just because he is now actually looking a bit bigger, going for stronger hits, and not falling every 15 sec. Never_Retire_Steve 35 Report post Posted March 9, 2009 Hell yeah. If only Downey played in last nights game, I'm sure the wings would have played really well and been totally motivated. Oh wait... (2 wins and 2 losses this season, with downey) And last year?
Mors 201 Report post Posted March 9, 2009 And last year? According to my calculations on NHL.com, the Wings' went 43-13 with Downey in the lineup last season. I'm not attaching any other theories to that stat, just a fun fact
Doc Holiday 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2009 Detroit also had a lot of other things clicking last season. I wouldn't consider Downey a game changer in either direction. But I'd love to have him in the lineup more often.

I agree that he is not as talented as 30 other members in the Wings organization but there are other things certain players bring. Steve Yzerman was no where near the talent that Mario and Gretz had but that guy brought a lot more to the table than just his pure talent.

This is how Kopecky has been this year.(Granted this is last year=p) Edit: Linked the video, but it still works=P I love how that's a blatant cheapshot by friggin Phaneuf who always pulls it again it the Wings, and NO BODY DOES ANYTHING WHILE CALGARY GETS AWAY SCOTT FREE. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted March 10, 2009 Our enforcer is our power play The biggest problem I have with that in this situation is, Phaneuf didnt get a penalty!

Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted March 10, 2009 Apparently your forgot how Lilja beat the s*** out of Phaneuf after he hit Hudler last year. GMR, read what I said. It didnt happen in that game, and it didnt do anything. I liked it, and at least he stood up to Phaneuf, but that wasnt as blatant a cheapshot as the one of Kopecky, and again, I appreciate him trying to take out the big goof, but someone need to do something. The Cleary hit was amazing, one of my favorite hits of all time, however it was a message sended in the playoffs, and not a retribution message, one that we didnt send in that game. And the enforcer is our powerplay bull has no effect because he wasnt getting a penalty, my god, DO SOMETHING!
Opie 308 Report post Posted March 10, 2009 (edited) Don't forget... esteef My favorite Dan Cleary Highlight right there. AWESOME HIT!! EDIT: I love how in the slow motion you can see how distant his eyes are, he just about watches Drapers shove that puck in and his mind can not act quick enough to do anything about it. As Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan would say "HE IS ROCKED!, he is in serious trouble right now!" Edited March 10, 2009 by Opie

Downey is a heavyweight who's not in the top echelon. If that makes him mediocre, then you have a different ranking system than everyone else. You mean if he wasn't a mediocre fighter he would have been destroyed by Cam Janssen. He fought Cam Janssen, the fight went on for a while but was in no way even close to being the victor, Janssen got the better of him from what I saw.... that was the fight of the year on a team with no good fighters. Dig up some old Probert and Kocur fights to see what real fighters look like. I can't think of one fight that I have seen Downey in that I could say he clearly won, or kicked the opponents ass. He's ******* Kin Kong in comparison to anyone on this team and that is more of an insult to him then anything else... he's the only fighter we have and he is not good at it.
