He lost the metal on the right skate, what's it called? Anyways it was in OT (or sudden death as they call it here) in game6 of the quarterfinals and a win would qualify them for the semi-finals...Zetterberg's old club Timrå IK of the swedish elite league

Talk about bambi on ice 0.o

That happened to a guy on my team freshman year, as well as once in Bantam, but never to me.

I'm actually kind of surprised you never hear of this happening in the NHL, because from my experience, this definitely doesn't seem to be an oddity anywhere else.

Well its reasonable if you block a shot and the blades goes off but just like that, nothing really happens they just went off, and the importance of the game... its just s*** :(

This is also similar, also in quarterfinals in 2004, sudden death... 1% luck 99% skillz... its kinda funny watch the whole thing

That's one of my favorite commercials of all time. Reminds me of the amazing intro to the movie Lord Of War, the "life of a bullet"-thing (youtube it).

Don't NHL players change their skates like 7 times per game? I would assume a thing like that wouldn't happen to brand-new skates.

LOL no... A skater who changes skates up alot might have 12+ pairs a season (such as I believe drapes does)... not 7 a game. I know it took lidstrom quite a while (like a year...) to get his new skates broken in too...

I was joking. But I know some players change skates quite often, like once every 5 or 6 games.

Oh man, I have a story. Game tied 1-1 and I get a break away... my blade comes off some how and I fall down. I looked like an idoit of course, and everyone was laughing at me. I go to get up and I fall down again.

It sucked. Luckily the other team did not score because of it.

Because with the money these guys make you'd think they would have the best skates money can buy.

One time at a tournament I blocked a shot and it broke off about half an inch of my blade right off, right in the middle too. It was pretty crazy it knocked me right down, but I was actually able to finish the game with my skate like that.

LA had a pretty "awkward" situation tonight in totally blowing a 2 on 0 breakaway for the win and took themselves out of the play before even getting a shot off.

Yeah. That play was just barely more embarassingly awful than the botched 5on1 the Caps had earlier in the day. The Caps turned it over and created a breakaway going the other way that Staal then cleaned up for an easy tap in.

In Stefan's defense, it's clear that the puck hit a spot of bad ice and just randomly jumped over his stick right as he was going to put the puck in.

It's just pure bad luck.. funny as hell, but I can't help but feel bad for Stefan.

Wow, a year to get them broken in? Most players I know get new skates baked in a special oven and there is no break-in period for the skates. I know the Missions I have used for the past few years had no break in period and have been wonderful the whole time. The baking, at least in my experience, is included in the purchase if new Mission skates...which is yet another plus for that particular brand.

You'd think something like that happening would warrant a stoppage of play, not only because of the misfortunate disadvantage that's even more crippling than a broken stick, but also because of the fact there's a loose razor sharp piece of metal out on the ice.
