GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted March 23, 2009 (edited) I don't know if most people realize this, but Zach Parise is in the top 5 right now in scoring. I haven't seen him play that much, so my question is whether he is a guy that can annually finish near the top in points every year, or is he simply a good player who's slightly overachieving statistically this season? I knew he was an up and coming player, but I didn't think that he'd suddenly catapult to the top 5 in points so quickly, so I'm wondering if anyone else is as surprised as me? BTW, the other guys in the top 5 are Malkin, Crosby, Ovechkin and Datsyuk, so he's in pretty good company if he ranks up there with those players. Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted March 23, 2009 He's played great. He deserves some Hart talk for the way he kind of carried the Devils when MB was hurt, but then again I don't know how much their system helped with just throwing any goalie in net. But it really is nice to se Zach step up his game like many thought he could.
Mors 201 Report post Posted March 23, 2009 He's been a great help to my fantasy team, just a lucky pick at the beginning of the season

Probably won't ever be #1 but easily could be in the top 10 for a while. He's been good since he started after the lockout, although the team was sort of underachieving for a while. However, I don't think he could be an Ovechkin/Crosby type player who could lead the league in scoring while playing on a non-playoff team.
Carman 387 Report post Posted March 23, 2009 He's always had the scoring touch, the only thing that limited his progress was size/strength. He's finally starting to come into his own. I'm very excited to see him excel.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted March 23, 2009 (edited) He's been building to a big season for the last two, getting thirty goals and sixty points in each. Seems like he's got more of a chance at being a consistently elite player in the league than, say, teammate and flash in the pan Brian Gionta. Opie 308 Report post Posted March 23, 2009 I think he is legit, 4 years of steady improvement, putting up decent points for 2 years before this year, and a really big year this year.
Guest E_S_A_D Report post Posted March 23, 2009 He's excellent. Remember he opted to go pro after only two quality years at University of N. Dakota. He's top notch and his numbers will continue to improve.
daniel1 32 Report post Posted March 23, 2009 I watched the Devils/Bruins game the other night, specifically to see Parise as I noticed he was 2nd in the league in goals and honestly I was expecting more. He doesn't seem the type to create for himself the way Datsyuk or Z would, maybe he just had an off game but I really didn't notice him too much until the Devils powerplay. He sure doesn't backcheck as hard as Dats or Z either. Seems like he's got a good shot and is pretty good around the net but I wouldn't label him as a superstar yet. Remember Gionta? He scored 48 goals in 2005 for the Devils but has never exceeded 25 since then. I'm not saying Parise will follow his path but from my admittedly small sample of what I saw of him I wouldn't put him in the same catagory as Ovie, Malkin, Dats, or Z. I think they play on TV tonight, so you'll get another chance. However, one game doesn't prove anything, besides I'm assuming he's been pretty good this year if he's in the top 5 in scoring. I just think that at this point, he may be the most unknown star in the league.

He's top notch and his numbers will continue to improve. So you're saying we can expect this guy to be a perennial 100 point man? Not a chance. I like Parise, and hes having an awesome year, but I dont see him as anything close to a top 5 guy for years on end. I'd expect him to put up 80-90 points on average though, with some off years, and some better years.

When someone says "Parise", most non-Devils fans say "Devils MVP this season."
