Babcock - "We're not ready yet"

Pierre LeBrun's ESPN blog

"The message I think that was sent was that we're not ready yet," Detroit Red Wings coach Mike Babcock told ESPN.com.

"So we have six games to make a conscious decision that we want to win, and if you make that conscious decision, that means you're all in."

Interesting blog from LeBrun. I'm really glad this came out and I hope it helps light a new fire under the team.

I think this is good time for Babs to state this speech. The Wings played very bad against the Isles but still played far better against the Preds but Osgood just blew up us. It does not matter we are ready or not realistically but by saying this, I think players can be motviated and be ready with more confidence for the playoff.

How dare he criticize this team? Sounds like Babcock is yet another bandwagon fan.
I hope you aren't serious. Babcock knows this team better then all off the LGW fan's combined here. -___-

I disagree though with him, I think we're fine. I'm a TINY bit worried, but I think we're overall fine.

Of course not, fans know much better about coaching a championship team.

There is a difference between criticizing the team and what posters do here.

HUMUNGO difference.

? No there isn't. There's a difference between criticizing the team and what a few posters do here. The overwhelming majority of people who post non-sycophantic comments do so at a level that can only be described as "criticism". Characterizing people who post any sort of doubt as 'flipping out' or 'bandwagon fans' is an inane trend on these forums that apparently won't die.

Edit: Punctuation.

Sorry, I should have said what some posters do here.

the team has been coasting for most of the year. babcock has had the whole season to get the wings back on track and on the same page and he hasn't done it. to think things are going to suddenly turn around in the last six games is probably wishful thinking. i'm scared no matter who we fact in the first round. if we can get through the first round, hopefully the team will be putting forth the effort having had a few games of playoff hockey under their belt.

Very true ... and of course the flip-side to that trend is that those who are defensive of the team or its players in a given discussion are often labelled "blind homers" or they "blow (insert player name here)", etc.

Despite making tons of money (and having the responsibility to earn that money in the eyes of the fans), it's really hard to play balls out for an 82 game season every single game, especially after being crowned the best last year. Yeah, we all wish that they'd play better every single game, but I don't think there is a single person here that can claim that he or she is always at the top of their game at work or school every single day. It's not an excuse, but it's human nature to do so. A coach can only do so much and nowadays, I think the best coaches know when to pick their spots. Babcock is doing that right now and I like the timing... hopefully it gets them ready without blowing their wad by starting it too early.

Pretty obvious that they aren't ready, and that they are afraid of getting injured.

Huh?

Did you not watch the islanders&predators game... you see it in the way they play and their body language... its smart but it ruin the experience for the fans who pay big money to see them live.

Yes I did. I didn't see a conscious effort to not get injured, and am not even sure what that would entail.

Avoiding hits, staying out of high traffic areas, not blocking shots... stuff like that. Common sense stuff, really.
