Osgood says he is ready to lead the team in the playoffs

Because the regular season and playoffs are two different seasons. Cam Ward for the Hurricanes is a perfect example when they won years ago. Didn't play well in the regular season, played well in the playoffs. Carolina won. Just one case scenario, all cases are definitely different, a situation like this doesn't happen much, but it CAN happen.

Thats the more retarded thing I've ever read... Osgood is playing like a blind retard... he's not going to suddenly play awesome because some invisible line was crossed on the claendar.

What's your solution then? Conklin has been worse than Ozzie of late and has no playoff experience. If you really think the Red Wings are done, why bother watching?

Same might have been said about Cam Ward years ago before the playoffs. Look what happened then...

If you alraedy know what's going to happen and are already going to be disappointed, why are you even wasting your time watching?

Conklin has suffered while Babs was trying to get Osgood ready... something that just hasn't happened.

Says the person with a Hasek sig...

Yea? How many individual awards does danny boy there on your sig have? What's that a goalie has 2 hart trophies and cleary couldnt touch a hart trophy if his life depended on it? Maybe Dom could invite him over sometime maybe teach the guy a thing or two eh?

What is Cleary's connection to a thread about Ozzie?

Oh, and at least Cleary actually played and won the championship last year.

Conklin has suffered for the same reasons Ozzie has ... the defense in front of them is poor and neither can make a timely save when it matters. Conklin's problem doesn't stem from Ozzie getting starts. Conklin had a chance to solidify the starter's role and his numbers have been worse than Ozzie's recently. The reason you made is just an excuse. Conklin has never been a consistent NHL starter and he has no playoff experience.

Neither goalie has given the Red Wings a chance to win lately and unless the defense improves, I'm not sure it really matters who starts in goal. Ozzie has been there before and is the Red Wings best bet of repeating. If you think the Red Wings are doomed, I'm still not sure why you are wasting your time on the team.

Well, now that Osgood has said he is ready to lead the team in the play offs I really do feel much better. Why esle would he say that? He says he feels great out there and he is going in the right direction going into the play offs. Who needs on-ice performances to backup your words? Playing good hockey is so over-rated anyway, talking about playing good hockey is really where its at! Atta boy Ozzie keep up the great work.... because your good enough, and smart enough and dog gone it people like you!

How'd I miss this post?!! Well now, this is just a miracle! I knew if we all waited long enough, there'd be hope for you! You do have a heart and brain after all. And you have seen the light and it's no longer the one that was at the end of the tunnel. Oh joy! Oh rapture!! I'm so very proud of you.

Shhhhhh! Quiet, you! If Manny "deserved" a chance, because he "earned" it with ONE Season as a Starter, then certainly Ty "deserves" a chance, too. Especially after "proving" himself over the course of 40 Regular Season games. If Manny could do it, then Conklin can do it, too.

Oh....wait....

I'm a fan no doubt but reality is not lost on me, the team is great this year the goaltrending is terrible... the D is fine... above the NHL average so stop hiding your Osgood love behind that excuse ok I'm f***in sick of that after 70 some odd games. Fact is Osgood is playing like a washed up tender, which he is...

If you think the defense is fine, I really have nothing else to offer. If you actually read my post, I also said that neither goalie has played well enough for the Red Wings to win recently. Not Ozzie, nor Conklin. Yes, I am a fan of Ozzie. I am more of a fan though of the Red Wings and I think Ozzie gives the team the best chance to win, as does the coaching staff. Conklin has played worse than Ozzie lately, so if the defense isn't the problem like you claim, are you willing to admit Conklin might not be the answer either?

The defense is bad, so are the goalies. Making Ozzie the scapegoat is the easy way out.

EDIT: to add more excuses to enhance my love for Ozzie.

Well considering this useless excuse of a goalie/human being hasnt been able to lead the team in the regular season what makes him or anyone else think he can lead the team in the playoffs? Truth is he'll be a burden on this team for a couple of more seasons.

Vitriolic personal attack against a Red Wing? Check. Assertion made that the defense is doing a-ok when they are amongst the worst in the league? Check.

Not only have you not watched any games (or simply have a below average IQ / don't know what a good defense is), but given your insults to a Red Wing, you either suck as a fan and can't be taken seriously or aren't even a Red Wings fan to begin with.

I think you should re-read my post after you've taken off your magic rosey red Red Wing glasses. I haven't had a shred of confidence in Osgood all season and I have even less now. Until his speaking of "feeling great" and "heading in the right direction" equate to consistent performances on the ice I sum it up to an extreme case of verbal diarrhea and nothing more. Our defense is not what it could be but its no where near as bad as what folks are making it out to be. The many multiple soft un-timely goals that drain an entire teams efforts should be cause for concern. There is plenty of room for the teams over-all performance to increase, thats for sure, but the biggest and most visible weakness isn't the Defenses laspes but the goaltending deficiencies.

I didn't like how Conklin was handled this season. At all.

He clearly was having a better season, and despite having good performances, Babcock would sit him in favor of a clearly struggling Chris Osgood and play him in 3+ straight games so he got time to "figure it out," all the while still continuing to lose games.

How Osgood managed to start more games this season than Conklin boggles my mind.

I believe that had Conklin started that majority of the games, the team would at least be in 1st place overall. Maybe not comfortably, but still in 1st place.

I'd like to believe you in saying that the defense has been fine. Both the goaltending and the defense have a lot to be desired for.

Maybe you shouldn't post while drunk. Just some advice.

The Wings will go FAR as long as the offense puts up 4,5,6 goals per game.

I think you're right.

edit: This is possible. The Wings lead the league in GFA with 3.64 -- that's almost 4 goals per game. They just have to do that for 16 games in a row and we're good for another Cup.
