ManLuv4Clears 7 Report post Posted April 10, 2009 Great goal? Yes. Though, I'm probably one of the few on the board that is starting to get annoyed with the shootout. For a sport that used to be team centered, with the implemantation of the shootout it seems that its gravitating to the individual accomplishment and showboat attitude that you would see in the NBA. I'll take ties over that nonsense anyday.
RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted April 10, 2009 I went to that game last night - (for some reason I thought the Avs-Stars might have PO implications in Sept when i bought them ). The Avs fans were even LTAO at Budaj after that one.... comforting to know there are teams with worse GT than ours...
Dano33 41 Report post Posted April 10, 2009 Yeah, i'm not impressed. He didn't actually score the goal, the puck just happened to take a lucky bounce after Budaj made the save. Plus the whole between the legs thing is old to me.

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted April 10, 2009 Does anyone know if it's legal to do a wraparound on a shootout? Don't know why anyone would try it, but I was just wondering if it's allowed.

Nope, that would stop your forward progress and go behind the line.

HanKarin40 7 Report post Posted April 10, 2009 that middle-school kid's basketball shot made number one. now, while it's amazing that that ball ended up going in (one in a million chances) the fact remains that it's amazing because it's such an odd fluke. off the top of the backboard, off some random banner-like-think, in the hoop. the kid didn't plan it. it's impressive because it's so random and fluky. same exact thing goes for ribeiro's goal. I couldn't agree more

Nope. Think about it, what's more amazing to see, what actually happened on that bball shot, or if it just went it normally? I would say what actually happened, it was crazy, like you said a one in a million chance. Now think about Ribeiro's goal. What would have been more amazing to see, him pull off that move and roof it knocking the water bottle off, or seeing it bouncing around and trickling in like it did? I think it is much more appealing to the eye when something like that is clean, not bouncing around. We see goals trickling by the goal line like that all the time. Jocke 53 Report post Posted April 10, 2009 (edited) Not very impressed. Too much luck involved. Omark's is 10x better imo. Edited April 10, 2009 by Jocke
adtthosa 5 Report post Posted April 10, 2009 Sweet move. If Datsyuk did this I bet we wouldn't see anyone here calling it lucky. Still, Omark's is my favourite of the recent bunch of highlight reel shootout goals.
Yak19 303 Report post Posted April 10, 2009 ^^^ yep Omark's was 100x better i'd even say, He wasn't trying to chip it in, it looked like that because Budaj got a piece of it, the shot was just the Malik move at a different angle..... nice but nothing thread worthy imo. We see goals trickling by the goal line like that all the time. right...i think we actually agree. i *would* be impressed by his skill is the puck had gone in cleanly. i'm impressed by the *play* because it's so odd and random and fluky, but i'm not impressed by ribeiro himself. just like with that kid...i'm sure the NBA scouts aren't going crazy to sign this kid right now because he probably won't make another basket all season. the fact that THAT shot went in is pure luke...great play to watch, but says nothing about the talent of the shooter. i see what you're saying about the difference between the plays--the analogy isn't perfect. the kid's play is noteworthy because it was so fluky; ribeiro's play is just fluky. *shrug* whatev. i feel bad for budaj. kinda. vOrophin 5 Report post Posted April 11, 2009 It's a cool goal because of the bounce it took as it hit Budaj and the arc it took, as well as him turning around. It seems like a lot of people (seen it discussed places other than here) think he flipped it up by himself, which would have been insane and probably would make it better than Omark's, but that's not the case. Not jaw dropping to me though.
Hockeytown_Ryan 122 Report post Posted April 11, 2009 i guess i'm in the minority here... that was not exciting to me at all. there's so much luck involved there it's ridiculous. the obvious example is that his shot hit the goalie first, then flipped up and over... which is why the goalie is dumbfounded. He lost sight of it since it had already hit him, not because he was mesmerized by the move. To go even further, when the puck comes down, it bounces in the crease next to Budaj's leg, but somehow bounces backwards into the net. Lame. that puck could have bounced in any other direction and then all of us would say... well that was dumb, but nice try, i guess. to me, Ribeiro should save it for the all-star competition if he ever gets to that point... in regular season hockey, i realize the stars are done-for, but i'd like to see skill... not shenanigans. Give me Datsyuk frying Turco any day... now that goal was something to get excited about. Hardly any luck involved at all, just an extremely humiliated goaltender... and no show-boating included. edit: details I agree with you Datsyuk has a WAY better shootout move..... He moves the goalie out of the net..... It made Sportcenter #2 cause there wasnt anything else going on that night......

MidMichSteve 1,115 Report post Posted April 11, 2009 (edited) Ayup. And now he's a showboating, hot-dogging ******-bag. Just what the NHL needs. <sigh> Outstanding goal. One of the best ever. I don't think he would have tried that move if the game had any importance. If I'm wrong and he would have, then you are right on.
