Kesler and Burrows talking trash about Backes' wife

I've said worse and in much lower levels of hockey. That is honestly nothing, I bet you Backes was laughing his ass off on the bench as they were saying it. Like, c'mon people. People's deceased mothers have been mentioned in trash talk, all family members, you get on the ice, and everything short of race is fair game. That's hockey.

Looks like Burrows and Kesler got further under Ryan's skin than they did with Backes xD

No you need to get over this and yourself. It happens all the time for crying out loud. Sheeesh .

Thats the whole discussion... family and Wifes should NOT be brought into the Trash Talk realm....

If it doesnt bother someone that your family is getting used as a insult tool .. maybe you should care more about yours

It's all in the name of the game. Everyone does it. Some let it bother them, and those r the ones who let there game slip or take bad penalties. Mission accomplished. It doesnt matter what you say, if it works it works. The r tons of players who dont let it bother them becaus they know its just a trick and its meaningless.

Thats the point dude. If you get mad you will likely do something stupid. Anything to gain an advantage.

I do care about mine. IMO you're getting too much in arms about this but whatever, it's your problem I'm done with you. That's what the ignore button is for isn't it.

I've been through it. It doesnt mean i dont love my family or my GF. I dont give a s*** what they think. Even if they were being serious. For the most part i know its game and i know what goes on within the game.

I didn't say I was offended or that it was offensive. Just that I think someone's wife should be left out of the conversation. I guess I'm one of those people who thinks your family is off-limits.

you may think family is off limit when it comes to chirping but avery, burrows, ott, etc. don't, there's always someone willing to go that extra little bit... it always amazes me when people act like they are shocked because something cruel was said, the fact that it happened in a hockey game with absolutely no real meaning whatsoever other than to razzle the other player a little bit is just bonus... get over it lol

Its an interesting one, as we don't really know what history there may have been. For instance, if Kesler had enjoyed Kelly Backes company in the way her photo would suggest I'd be open minded about, then it might be crossing a line. If there is no history, its quite an easy bit of sledging (as its known in cricket) to ignore. I liked Backes response, which kept it in perspective. If they had been really derogatory about her, it may be a different issue, as that then brings her into it.

As it stands as long as its not racial or getting into really offensive and cruel territory its cool. The aforementioned example of dead family members is for me crossing a line of etiquette and reflects very poorly on the person saying it. Certainly personal insults towards the opponent are pretty fair as long as they don't become an attack on family. Implying that you might want to have your way with his wife is a little close to the edge but is still on the acceptable side of it for me.

Of course its very hard to regulate and largely requires players to follow a broad unwritten code. Avery is just a muppet who gets too caught up in his psychological warfare, when actually he's a good enough agitator and player on the ice to not have to stoop as low as he does. If he would cash his own cheques, fine, but crossing the line as he does and not taking responsibility within the etiquette of the game is hard to defend really. Shame as if he was 20% less dickhead he'd be a real asset....

Boy, go to astronomy and when you get back BOOM! 4 pages!

Let me clarify - I don't think Avery should have been suspended, just like I don't think these two boobs should. Trash talk is trash talk (I played high school hockey, after all).

I DO, however, have a problem with the league lowering the boom on one person, while not lowering it on another. That's all I'm saying. I'm tired of this "unique snowflake" BS. I prefer a more black-and-white situation. If something is suspendable, EVERYONE gets suspended for it. Just like yesterday - you aren't allowed to interfere with a goalie or intentionally knock the puck in to the net with your skate... but if you take a look at last nights highlights in the pens-flyers game, Crosby sure did both on that first goal. I HATE when the league picks favorites.

There is a big difference between the two incidents.

Oh boohoo, they are trash talking on the ice.

Seriously, this happens in every game -- what do you think they say when they get in to scrums, "Im going to beat you on the scoreboard you jerk!!"? No, it's trash talking for a reason. Even the Red Wings do it. It may not be as bad as Kesler and Burrows, but it happens.

you need a tissue?

anytime i hear about someone complaining about something like this makes me wonder how few of you guys have ever played the game of hockey. good god.

who was complaining?

im not sure if you guys are thinking i was complaining about it or not...i wasn';t...in fact i like a little trash talk. but i do feel you leave someones wife and kids out of it....maybe just the kids.

well you're not an elite agitator making millions in the NHL so fortunately for the entertainment value of the game, you're opinion means nothing :)

QUOTE

"She's stronger than I am, and she can take it if they want to give her any ..."

I'll bet.

esteef

Now this is a piece of absolute, mature brilliance. Know what I mean? Know what I mean?

...jeezuss, I do believe some of you are still in the pubescent stage of life. Even if you're 30 years old.

I love pro hockey. And I know I have no control over what happens on the ice. But I say that any player who is so desperate as to attack wives and/or families is mostly showing his own insecurities about his play and whether he can cut it on the ice. Otherwise, why bother? Why not just get the hell out there (like the Detroit Red Wings) and play your damn game? Show them up the way you're supposed to, like you've been trained to do most of your whole life?

I don't care if it happens 40 out of 60 minutes of ice time and that it starts in high school and is ingrained.. It's stupid. It's a kind of insecure cheapshotting. It's ugly in too many ways to count.
