betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted April 24, 2009 Now that the Wings are safely in Round 2 we can spend the weekend enjoying the WC's. Games start tomorrow (Friday.) For our neighbors to the north, Canada gets it started against Belarus tomorrow, and Team USA kicks it off against Latvia (we always get Latvia in our group for some reason) on Saturday. We're five hours (I think) behind Switzerland time, so games start at 11 Eastern. Just a helpful tidbit. Unfortunately, there won't be any USA vs. Canada game this year unless the elimination rounds shake out that way.
stactum 4 Report post Posted April 24, 2009 And sure thing, they won't broadcast a game here in US. Or will they? Will probably be some some online streams available. here is an official WC web site: http://www.iihf.com/ and forum: http://ihwcforums.5.forumer.com/ Actually, they've had better site and forum in the past. dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted April 24, 2009 Canada has the best team by far right now. If Washington lose their series Russia will get some serious reinforcements though. Team Sweden looks okay compared to everyone except Canada. We could use Lundqvist, but it seems like the Rangers won't be knocked out this round.

The Swedes have a lot of reinforcements in the playoffs. Namely the Sedins, Sundin, Lundqvist and the legion of Swede Wings.

Yeah, Sweden looks awful thin actually. Very few NHLers and most of those are off of Dallas and not particularly exciting. I like the draw for USA. I notice our old pal Stefan Liv is on the Swedish roster. I wonder how much of him we'll see.

If Lundqvist becomes available and joins the team he will obviously take over. Hopefully Huselius will join now that the BJ's are out, that would be a pretty good addition. dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted April 24, 2009 Is Hedman or paajarvi playing this year? Hedman, yes. Unfortunately it's the lesser of the two Hedman's, Oscar. Don't know what Gustafsson was thinking there to be honest.

Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted April 24, 2009 (edited) Canada has by far the best team on paper. They can also get Rick Nash now, can't they? And seems like Marleau, Thornton and Boyle are (if Canada wants them) well on their way to Switzerland Czech team: Goalies: Mensator, Stepanek, Prusek Defencemen: Zidlicky, Caslava, Rachunek, Blatak, Sicak, Kutlak, Nemec, Barinka Forwards: Jagr, Hemsky, Cajanek - Kotalik, Marek, Rolinek - Irgl, Hlinka (Vasicek), Klepis - Frolik, Cervenka, Olesz. But not all are written on the roster yet, we will also get Polak from St.Louis and maybe Klesla and Hejda from BJs. FinWing 26 Report post Posted April 24, 2009 (edited) Finland not too impressive on paper either but we'll see, gotta have faith. We could use some reinforcements at center (Saku..?) and a physical guy or two on the back end. Goaltending and wingers should be fine. Goaltenders Juuso Riksman (Jokerit) Pekka Rinne (Nashville) Karri Rämö (Tampa Bay) Defensemen Teemu Aalto (Linköping) Topi Jaakola (Södertälje) Ville Koistinen (Nashville) Mikko Lehtonen (Timrå) Janne Niinimaa (Langnau) Janne Niskala (Frölunda) Petteri Nummelin (Lugano) Anssi Salmela (Atlanta) Centers Juha-Pekka Hytönen (JYP) Jarkko Immonen (JYP) Niko Kapanen (Kazan) Tommi Santala (Kloten) Wingers Niklas Hagman (Toronto) Hannes Hyvönen (Minsk) Sami Kapanen (KalPa) Kalle Kerman (Jokerit) Leo Komarov (Pelicans) Antti Miettinen (Minnesota) Tuomas Pihlman (JYP) Mika Pyörälä (Timrå) Jarkko Ruutu (Ottawa) Ville Vahalahti (TPS) Let's get the show on the road! EDIT: Lineup added. Edited April 24, 2009 by FinWing

I would like to see Nash on the top line..move Doan to play on the 3rd line and Upshall to the 4th..who knows though..I love international hockey !!

Jocke 53 Report post Posted April 24, 2009 So, team Sweden is weak again this year. NHL-Swedes tend to say no to the World Cup for some reason. It's going to be settled between Canada, USA and Russia I think.

But almost never when it's time for the Olympics.. (Not saying Alfie's back is okay, but still..)
