You are taking what i said completely out of context. Autika was saying that the Penguins don't have many positives to say about Crosby as their leader.....what I was saying was that when a captain sticks up for a teammate the way Crosby did for Malkin, it goes a long way towards adding to their reputation among the guys on the team as their leader, that he will stick his neck on the line for another guy on the team, it doesn't matter that Crosby didn't even land a punch, it was the principle of the action that speaks to his teammates, I know this all for a fact because I've been on teams where very similar situations have happend. When Autika insinuated that he/she had never played serious hockey before, then i lost my interest in his or her opinion on a subject that involved the attitudes inside the locker room of a serious hockey team....due to the fact that he/she had never been involved with one. It would be like a joe blow golfer trying to explain the what goes on in the mind of somebody leading the Masters on Sunday at Augusta, if you've never actually been there, then you're basically just blowing smoke because you have no real way of knowing what goes on.

It's not some Mystery Cult we're talking about here. I think most people can understand and appreciate what you're talking about, hockey experience or no hockey experience.

These are 22 year olds we are talking about and they have already singe handedly lead their team to the cup (obviously with the help of Hossa). Leading the league in scoring is largely pointless. Did you know the Art Ross winner has only won the cup once in the last 17 years?

Just shows how hard it is to win the cup and that it is more of a team game than most other sports, especially basketball.

For comparison, in the last 28 years, the Art Ross winner has won the cup 5 times I think (quick adding in my head), compared to 3 I think for Selke winners.

If he signs with Detroit, great. If he doesn't, I will not lose any sleep over it. He does make our team that much better, but we won the cup last year against your Pens without Hossa. Still a lot of hockey to be played, so let the pro's hash it out.

Are you still sour over Hossa leaving the Pen's? He was acquired at the trade deadline and had a limited stint with your team. Time to move on.

And Crosby is a whiner. A good player, but a whiner. And to be honest, I would not want him on my team. Now if you were talking Malkin, that is a different story.

I'll pretend for a moment that you are not an obvious churlish troll, and answer as if you were raising points not laced with adolescent antagonism and bravado.

I think Datsyuk especially, and maybe even Zetterberg are better and more suited to this team than perhaps even Crosby and Malkin for the present and probably a few more years. Ignoring the fact that Malkin and Crosby will improve in the future, in the here-and-now these players are a lot more equal offensively than what a quick glance at the leader board might show you.

I posted this about 2/3 throught the season, though the projections at the time turned out to be awfully accurate:

I was curious what Datsyuk's numbers might look like if he had the playing time of someone like Evgeni Malkin.

Their playing time per game is a huge difference, and Malkin ends up playing essentially an extra 14 games a season (in ice time).

Malkin has played 45 games, has 67 points and is on pace for 122 pts this year.

Datsyuk has played 44 games, has 52 pts and is on pace for 97 points this year.

Malkin has played about 86 more minutes of even strength time, which Datsyuk scores every 18:30 at (extra 4-5 points).

Malkin has played 107 more minutes on the power play (over two minutes extra per game), which Datsyuk scores every 8 minutes on (extra 13 points).

So with bumping up Datsyuk's even strength and power play minutes to equal Malkin, he would have an extra 17 points at 45 games putting him at 69 points to Malkin's 67 which would put Datsyuk on pace for about 126 points this year. This is still assuming Datsyuk continues to play a much more defensively responsible game at even strength than Malkin (where Malkin scores at a greater clip per minute).

This is not an exact science and I am not claiming it to be... just thought it was interesting and that I would post it.

All things are not necessarily equal in the game of hockey. Players should always be looked at in context. Mike Babcock had the luxury this year of not needing to rely on any two stars too heavily this year in order for the Wings to make the playoffs, so he was able to limit their ice time and spread the power play time amongst all his forwards. Obviously the Penguins were not in the same position.

29 other NHL players also have a C on their jerseys. And having a C does not mean you are obligated to *****. (But then again we learned from Yzerman and you had Lemieux so that's understandable)

Detroit won the Cup. The Pens didn't. There isn't a whole lot more to be said. You can argue back and forth about which pairing is better (Crosby/Malkin, Datsyuk/Zetterberg), but on the whole - it means absolutely nothing. Everyone on this forum knows which TEAM is better.. because they hoisted the Cup high over their heads in the Pens' arena.

So let him rant.. but don't bother playing into it. Just point at the defending Stanley Cup Champion team, smile, and move on.
