Vincanni 1 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 Dear lord Vs. Sucks, playing the Chicago blowout over this game and even then not bothering to show it at all during intermission.
C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 I don't like cheering for the Sharks. I think if they escape Round 1 against such a tough foe, they are going to be way more confident going into round 2. Root for the Ducks. Wings want revenge. This. Coming back when EVERYONE (except me) had them dead and buried at 0-2 and 1-3 could be the giant turning point for their playoff fortunes. I personally don't want to find out. You can argue Ducks vs. Canucks for an opponent, but if it's a close call (and it is), I'm taking the one that has the Sharks out and gives us home ice the rest of the way through the West. There aren't really that many teams that we owe one to in the playoffs, but the Ducks are definitely one. Not just once, but twice (2003).

Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 Calgary's outshooting Chicago 33-11 thru 2 and is losing 3-0. You can't lay it all on him, but what the hell happened to Kipper? He was so great in 2004, but he's just not been the same at all in the playoffs ever since.

There aren't really that many teams that we owe one to in the playoffs, but the Ducks are definitely one. Not just once, but twice (2003). I dunno. Having to go seven games against Anaheim right off the bat has to take a lot out of a team, and the Wings wouldn't play the Sharks until after another series that will likely go at least 6 games (I don't see them rolling Chicago, and they struggled with Calgary last year). I don't think it matters who the Wings play--if they stay healthy and play with heart, they should win. That being said, amongst the remaining teams, there's not an easy out. But I'm with you in that the Wings do have some unfinished business with the Poultry...

He was so great in 2004, but he's just not been the same at all in the playoffs ever since. He was pretty mediocre all year actually...the goalies have been a big reason Chicago's about to win this series, IMO. Not the MAIN reason, but a big reason. But Kipper was outstanding in the playoffs last year, even though the Flames lost that series...

Not the MAIN reason, but a big reason. But Kipper was outstanding in the playoffs last year, even though the Flames lost that series... He looks tired. You'd think the Flames would learn to not run him into the ground every year and have him play 70+ games. That's what makes Luongo scarier this year--he's been tired out come playoff time in years past, but this year injuries held him to 54 games. He's fresh. C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 Ducks announcers explaining how re-seeding works. Classic. They've won a Cup, they made the finals another time, the team's been around for over 15 years now...are they really that stupid?

C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 This is as quiet as I've ever seen the Saddledome. We haven't faced elimination since losing the Ducks...I forgot what a horrible feeling that is.

Each team keeps it's seed throughout the conference POs, just the top seed left plays the lowest seed each round. The way the NBA does it sucks....
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 As usual, I don't pick my poison, but a Ducks-Wings series has the storyline, and would be wildly more entertaining than a series against the Canucks. Frankly, though, I'm not scared of any team in the playoffs, so long as the Wings play like they want it we can beat any team left. I will say this though, if the Wings play Anaheim in Round 2, that might be the series that decides the Cup, instead of the Western Finals usually doing it. C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 To be fair, they've explained this on NBC and Vs. numerous times the past two weeks. Point taken. Kinda weird though, since it's not a "hockey" thing per se, so why the need to over-explain it to the "uneducated" US fans like other basic hockey concepts? Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 Point taken. Kinda weird though, since it's not a "hockey" thing per se, so why the need to over-explain it to the "uneducated" US fans like other basic hockey concepts? I think it's because (as Duck Guy pointed out) each sport does it a little different--the NFL has a first round bye, NCAA basketball tournament does a straight bracket, NCAA football has the convoluted and idiotic Bull Crap Series, etc. I think each sport that doesn't do a straight bracket explains the format during the playoffs for the benefit of the casual fans. Each team keeps it's seed throughout the conference POs, just the top seed left plays the lowest seed each round. The way the NBA does it sucks.... I actually like the NBA way better to be honest. Not that we're ever in this position, but if you're the Ducks and you pull off the massive upset of the Sharks, as your reward you get to automatically play the next best team. That's pretty harsh. That's sort of why I say that the NHL regular season is more important than people give it credit for. Getting as high of a seed as possible matters, because as a low seed, the road is a LOT tougher than as a low seed in the NBA. 2008 playoffs: Wings come in as #1. Play #8, then #6. Stars come in as #5. Play #4, then #2. Which one of those teams do you think was feeling the grind more once the WCF came around? If Anaheim is to make the Cup finals, they'll have to beat #1, #2 and either #3/#4 to do it. Ouch.
