AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 Getzlaf is a beast. I think if the Wings can contain that big line, they should have success in the series. They are not a team that takes a lot of penalties, so the Ducks will not be on the PP too much....that is where they can hurt you.
TheOwl 77 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 (edited) San Jose really blew this, no matter what anyone says it was a "MASTADONIC" upset. Losing the first 2 games didn't help, it's actually kind of pathetic really. Anaheim will be no push over though, Detroit and San Jose play very similar games, however Detroit's forwards are less proned to chocking. Osgood has his work cut out for him against Hiller... Whoever wins Game 1 will win the series, you heard it here first folks. Edited April 28, 2009 by TheOwl
Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 (edited) Hey Brian Hayward: Joe Thorton and Ryan Getzlaf are not the two most dominant centers in the West. Two words for ya: Pavel. Datsyuk. Edited April 28, 2009 by Third Man In
C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 Sorry, couldn't resist. I am constantly amazed at LGWers' ability to pull any image you can think of out of our collective butt that quickly. One guy on one of the Sharks board I read a while ago calls McLelllan "palm frond head." I thought that was pretty funny. Dude thought he could bottle our sick game and take it west, but he didn't realize that the Sharks will always be the Sharks in the playoffs.
heed316 7 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 I was hoping SJ would tie it up and the game would go on to an epic 69OT battle, but alas, it didn't happen again
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 Getzlaf is a beast. I think if the Wings can contain that big line, they should have success in the series. They are not a team that takes a lot of penalties, so the Ducks will not be on the PP too much....that is where they can hurt you. He and his mates will get their goals, but basically the Duck's strat is to pray the big line gets three goals and to keep the opposition under that number. They have virtually zero scoring from any of their other lines, which wasn't a problem against the Sharks because they did in fact get 2-4 goals a game and kept the Sharks to one or no goals. I don't think the Wings will have an easy time holding that line down, even though Hank and Nick and crew are much better than anything the Sharks had to offer, but I don't think that one line will be able to outscore the Wings' three, even with their world-class defense and good goaltending holding the fort. '07 Ducks > '09 Ducks '07 Wings < '09 Wings Wings lost in '07 because they were missing two of their top defensemen. And even then, they almost took the series. So I'm not worried at all. TheOwl 77 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 Epic chokes by Calgary and San Jose. The Sharks will benefit from this though, when you make the second round year after year, your basically only a few bounces, a little less bad luck from the Cup. Such as last year, or the year before that. Now they can half-re-build, re-assign the captain, make a few moves etc. Personally, Calgary chocked harder. Dozen points up on the division lead, blew it, blew it, then really blew it. Instead they got Chicago, who every Vancouver fan wanted in the first round. Bad bad year for a lot of teams. Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 This is exactly the series the Wings need to light some extra fire under their asses. Everyone on that team who played in the 06-07 series has an axe to grind when it comes to the Ducks. That hate was evident this season, and it'll be evident on Thursday. I expect Babcock to go about fanning the flames with some video replay This will be a brutal series, but I'm confident we can walk away winners if the boys play Red Wings hockey. The Sharks get a bad rap for choking (rightfully so) but it's about time the hockey world recognizes that the Flames haven't done s*** since their run to the Finals five years ago. As it stands, the Sharks have won more playoff series since then than the Flames have, which isn't impressive since any team that has won any at all has more. LidsFan 68 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 I was hoping that the Sharks would win tonight and beat the Ducks in game 7. I cannot stand the Ducks and I am not looking forward to watching them Goon it up against the Wings. I wanted the Sharks and Wings to meet in the Western Conference Final, but it was not meant to be.
