@YoungKariya.. It's funny how Zetterberg being tripped by your team led to our third goal.

Oh the irony

You can watch the replay at regular speed and count to three before the hit is delivered. Hudler is facing the other way and Brown follows through to the head. I don't see any room for argument in this case.

4 minutes. There was just a little bit of blood goofball.

Goofball? You're gonna call me names because I don't get all upset about a little blood like you do? So what if there's blood, its hockey. WTF? Hudler looks back and drops a pass then blindly archs right into Brown's lane with his frikin head sticking out at Brown's chest level. Whats Brown supposed to do, get out of Hudler's way so they don't collide? No, he is suppossed to tighten up and explode with a hit. And thats what he did. Sure, the result was worse than Steve Moore's hit on Naslund, but thats not saying much, and thats hockey. The blood wasn't from the visor when he hit the ice, it was from the visor when Brownie leveled him. Thats an inherent problem with a visor.

If you don't want your head hit, then wind your neck in. Sure as hell don't stick it out there at head level and figure skate into oncoming traffic.

Oh no, there's blood! Oh no, a Red Wing was on the nasty end of a wicked hit, oh no! Have you people no objectivity? You guys are embarrassing. God I hope the Ducks fans don't see those posts.

.

When there is blood pouring on the ice, thats not a little blood. a little blood is if you poke your finger and it starts to bleed. It was a late hit. and a cheap shot and if you cant see that then you are clearly an idiot.

I thought stick at first, but watching the CBC video above, I think elbow. The stick followed his arms around, which made it look like a follow-through. The butt end was in there with his elbow, but it didn't look like it got to Huds' face. JMO, it's hard to say for sure.

Brown SHOULD be done for the series, but I don't think he will be.

Just watched the hit in slo-mo and it looks like elbow/ butt end and then follow thru with the arms! I'm saying 4 games for this cheap shot!

Whether the hit was late or not, Brown still hit him in the head with what appears to be his stick (refer to the pictures on the second page of this thread). Even if he had the puck at the time, that's still a dirty hit and intent to injure. I definitely think it should get a couple of games.

And to be honest, if we see much more of this type of play out of Anaheim, stop with the suspensions and give the coach a hefty fine. They're a notoriously dirty team that just doesn't seem to learn.

It was kind of a dirty hit, but that s*** happens in the playoffs. Skate off, stitch up, get some smelling salts and get your ass back out there just like Huds did, way to go Jiri! That is the toughness that the wings have: they are physical, but not by fighting or intimidation. Their toughness is the ability to take this s***, and then get up, turn the other cheek and get back into the play. I think in a way that is much harder than running people and trying to fight all the time. Its a physcial toughness to get up, but it's a mental toughness to swallow your pride and take that hit and not retaliate so the team gets a power play. What if Huds or somebody else jumped up and went after that dude and gave the refs an opportunity to even up the calls and no powerplay: the wings would be less one goal.

Yes hockey is a rough game. Yes Hudler should have had is head up. With that in mind it is still a dirty hit when you pummel a guy in the face with your fists and stick, especially when it is a late hit. Anyone who doesn't think that was a dirty hit is a complete moron.

Brown doesn't have to follow through with a fist/butt-end to the face. That's a bad hit regardless of the way you spin it, and you're an idiot if you think that was a clean hit.

He went into that seeing Hudler turned away, and there was a good chance he would stay that way, as that was the way the puck was going. Lining up a hit in that situation shows not only poor judgment, but also shows a desire to harm the opposing player.

The addition of blood on top of it being a hit to the head, regardless of it being the visor's fault or not, deserved the penalty, ejection, and possibly the suspension he has coming.

the guys on cbc are saying it was a clean hit

Typical Canadians. Most Canadians will say guys that get hit like that, it's their fault for not keeping their head up. <_<

I'm proud to say, I'm not like most Canadian hockey fans. There's nothing wrong with rough play and hitting, but players know when they have guys in a vulnerable position, they should ease up. I'm glad the league is finally suspending guys for hits to the head, instead blaming the guy who got hit.

I was at the JLA and didn't have a good view. Is it just me, or did they call a 5-minute INTERFERENCE major?

Yes. It's a new penalty they created in the offseason before the '07-'08 season. The league wanted a suitable penalty for plays just like this. Blatant vicious hits that were nowhere near the play. As it was before they could only call 2 for interference but couldn't ramp it up if was beyond your garden variety late hit or hit away from the puck. Funnily enough the first time the league called it was on Boogaard when he took a pointless run at Downey in a preseason game.

Agreed. That's what bugs me too about the whole, "Keep your head up" argument. Hudler was creating offense and trying to help his team tie the game. Isn't scoring goals the main objective?

I luv Huds, but he carelessly put himself in an extremely vulnerable position and paid the price. Not only was he NOT looking where he was going, but he was floating thru like he was on a date or something, and HE went into Brown's path. And like Kevotron said, he got stitched back together and went in for more hockey. Where I come from, thats 1 "Aw, s***", and 1 "Atta boy".

It wasn't late. It was just too bad for Juri, thats all. He'll be fine. Like Kevotron said, thats toughness. I couldn't believe Cleary said it was a dirty hit on the TV interview. He should have said," Hey, thats Stanley Cup Playoff Hockey."

This.

If Brashear got 5 why shouldn't Brown. Same hit.

Huggy Bear's hit was further removed from the play and both players were standing more upright in that incident iirc.

To all the people shouting "keep your head up!" or the alternative "don't admire your pass!" you have to look at the puck to see where it's going so you know where to go. What Hudler did wasn't so much a pass as an off the boards dump in to a chasing Filppula. Hudler has to look at the puck to make sure it gets in or if he has to retreat to play defense. If he turns away from the play, the puck doesn't get in and is heading back to our end, he's screwed defensively. He got blindsided. Not only that he got blindsided late. Not only that he got blindsided late and to the head. There is nothing remotely clean about that hit. Nor should there be. It was one of those plays by Brown where he really should have the thought "this could end a career" running through his head.
