dicksmack 33 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 I was so proud of Franzen for once again busting through the opposition and scoring a critical goal. But that's just the beginning! Our smallest player gets smoked with a blindside, late/high hit and what does Franzen do? He embarrasses the Ducks on the goal, runs their goalie over...and then does a strong man pose to top it off! I can't say I've seen a better, more immediate all-around response to Duck goonery... Of course Perry and Ryan tried to double team him afterwards but it didn't work... Way to go Mule! Yeah, they had visions of pulling a Pronger/Niedermayer crunch but nothing doing. I hope to see Kronwall or Stuart rock some ducks tomorrow...

It's the way the goal was scored that made it perfect. Take it to the hole and slam dunk it in their face while smacking the mask off their goalie! GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 I'm glad he scored but I stll don't like the whole "PP is our enforcer" crap. It would have been nice if we had someone on the team who could skate over and beat Mike Brown's ass right after that hit.

puertoricanWingsfan 5 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 It's the same thing two years in a row. During the regular season, people act like Franzen is a liability, or not worth his pay. Then april comes along, and he's scoring clutch goals left and right. Is he ever gonna get the love he deserves?

Outsider 42 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 lol Every day each year in April I love Franzen more and more. P.S. How is that not goalie interference after the goal? The play is whistled dead after a goal. How can you interfere with a player when the puck is not in play? Roughing? Maybe. But then again, the Ducks spent the entire game crashing into Ozzie, and nothing was called.

I understand what you're saying, but if the play is whistled dead and someone cross-checks another person in the head, are you saying that there's no cross-checking penalty? Obviously, as a Wings fan I am happy there was no penalty, however, as a goalie that is a clear penalty (call it roughing if there's no interference on a dead play)

Vincanni 1 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 Major props to Franzen as well considering our PP was extremely rusty looking at that point and he basically took the puck in as a one-man wrecking crew to score.

Obviously, as a Wings fan I am happy there was no penalty, however, as a goalie that is a clear penalty (call it roughing if there's no interference on a dead play) With all due respect, you didn't ask "How is that not a penalty?" What you asked was "How is that not goalie interference...?" I never inferred that there was no justification for calling a penalty. Only that there are absolutely no grounds for calling it "goalie interference", simply because you can't interfere with a player when the puck is dead. It would be the equivalent of calling an interference penalty on a player who obstructs a guy on his way to the circle to line up for a face off.

It would have been nice if we had someone on the team who could skate over and beat Mike Brown's ass right after that hit. No doubt. I'm sick and tired of the "The Red Wings tough guy is their power play" I heard it all over CBC last night (because I REFUSE to watch VS and their Cindy Crosby circle jerk). McCarty would have smashed Browns face after a hit like that, and it would have been a beautiful thing. I prefer gladiators to light footed ballerinas any day of the week. Sure its awesome that we can score goals and win games... BUT I DEMAND MORE ASS KICKING!

In the regular season, the PP being the enforcer is a ******* joke. However, in the playoffs, I believe it's nessecary. All of the things you mentioned were message senders in their own right, and the fact we out-hit the bullies and had them skating away after scrums at the net, tells me all I need to know

Thanks. The Wings are not thugs. If they're going to exact revenge, they're going to be smart about it -- specifically, in ways that really hurt. And they did just that.
