Vincanni 1 Report post Posted May 3, 2009 Kronwall is kind of a chicken and deserves some of his own medicine, would just be fair. I assume you where happy when Marek Svatos' skate hit him in the face after a monster check. To answer the question, it's obviously part of his technique seeing as he's not a big guy so he chucks all of his body weight exploding into those he checks. However, occasionally he mistimes his hits and goes airborn before contact which is definitely something he needs to fix badly.
Jake Ryan 1 Report post Posted May 3, 2009 Kronwall hasn't laid a good hit on anybody in a long time. Helm and Stuart have been far more effectice.
adtthosa 5 Report post Posted May 3, 2009 I am amazed he doesn't get called for these hits because most of them are pretty obvious charges. I bet the next time he does it, it'll be a penalty.
Hossa7.4 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2009 are you guys insane? I see this happen all the time with other players but it sure does get alot of play when a Red Wing does it. The media is very powerful.
ComradeWasabi 109 Report post Posted May 3, 2009 Taking the homer glasses off, yeah, those hits are against the rules. I don't want to call them dirty because I don't think they should be illegal- and he certainly doesn't launch into the hits the way Steve Downie did on Dean McAmmond last year in the pre-season. Nobody can deny he is breaking the rules with those hits, though.
Hossa7.4 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2009 what's worse? 55 leaving a split second before he legally checks somebody open ice or Pronger leaving his feet hitting somebody from behind while he jams his elbow into someones head into the glass concussing them? geesh, red wing fans, stand up for your own team. norrisnick 1 Report post Posted May 3, 2009 He jumps and more often than not simply completely takes himself out of the play because he's ass over teakettle falling over whoever it was he tried to hit. Stay on the ice and drive through the opposition and he'd hit harder and stay in the play.

Hey I say whatever works. If he can do it and they are not going to call it because they don't see it, then keep doing it. GO KRONNER. Pretty sure no one's comparing Kronwall to Pronger. Hey, I love Kronwall's hits and I know everyone here does. But for the most part, they are illegal hits according to NHL rules. I calls 'em as I sees 'em.
ComradeWasabi 109 Report post Posted May 3, 2009 Anybody who says that Kronwall's hits are legal but complains about Pronger and the Ducks is a hypocrite. Unfortunate but true. You can't have it both ways: Kronwall's hits aren't really "dirty" but they are certainly against the rules.
titanium2 867 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 Are they against the rules? Definitely. Are they dirty hits? I don't think so because other than that hit on Peverly he didn't get anyone in the head. For the most part, he aims for shoulder checks. Has he ever caused injuries or concussions with his hits? I can't recall. Anyone? With him it's like the letter of the law versus the spirit of the law. And like Babcock, do I like to answer my own questions? Hells yeah.

It seems that Kronwall puts himself more at risk these days with his flying hits. He needs to channel that force and apply it in a direction parallel to the ice instead of at an upward angle. Teemu just ducked out of that hit and Kronwall went flying. No reason to do that.
MTU_Huskies963 398 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 It is against the rules, and its starting to tick me off. One game he is going to get called for it and it could cost us a goal. He leaves his feet a split second before the check. I do think the league put the rule in to stop from flying checks where a guy leaves his feet 3 feet away from the player. Funny, I didn't see anybody comparing these two incidents. But since you asked the question, obviously Pronger's was worse seeing as how he was suspended by the league after the game even though the refs botched the call and booted Niedermayer from the game. I love these homers who can't handle a simple discussion. Kronwall jumps when he hits people. It's illegal. Stop ******* trying to mince words and legitimize it. You can't leave your feet to hit somebody. He does it alot and we're damned lucky he didn't get called tonight. Why you feel the need to bring up Chris Pronger's hit is beyond me. Just further proof that stupidity is running rampant again on LGW. Edited May 4, 2009 by GordieSid&Ted

Ms_Hockey 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 Kronwall, without a shadow of a doubt, leaves his feet on almost every single major hit he makes. Is it illegal? Absolutely. Is it dirty? Well.. has anybody ever really gotten hurt from it? Kronwall breaks the rules, but he's damn good at covering it up. Let's be realistic though.. the man leaves his feet. He's broken two noses (Ryan Malone and now Ryan Carter... watch out Bobby Ryan), which isn't a big deal in hockey, but it's more of an injury than some hits dished out by "dirty" Anaheim players. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 They probably don't get called because A) He doesn't really do it enough to have a reputation and B) He doesn't aim for the head. He's not a big guy, so I think he's probably made a habit out of lifting himself into the opposing player to make the hit. In all reality, the whole "leaving your feet to make a hit" is a rule because it guards against hitting guys in the head. Kronwall doesn't make a habit of hitting guys in the head, so thats probably why he isn't called. Against "the rules"? Yes. Dirty? Nah. And if they are dirty, its probably more of an accident on Kronner's part than anything else. For the life of me, I can't recall Kronwall handing out some nasty backhand slashes, head-butts, hits from behind, etc on a regular basis. Because of that, I dont see him as a nasty player by trade, so much as a guy who gets in over his head when he hits.

The Carter injury was a big deal, after watching the replay, but IIRC, the Malone hit was clean. Malone had broken his nose previously that same playoff run, so it wasn't necessarily going to need a monstrous hit to break it open again.
