Death threat to Ovechkin being investigated

Just because it's on the internet doesn't make it not serious. Better safe than sorry. The person who said it is stupid, but that's not hard to imagine since it was a Pens fan who said it.

Anything that occurs on the internet has to be taken seriously, especially something on that nature.

Yea, I'm sure it would be in the national news if it wasn't Ovechkin, not like the internet is full of hate or anything ^^

Any idiot or immature kid that has access to the internet, knows how to fumble their way into forums, and express their opinion when they should be seen and not heard is what causes such problems.

This is bogus. Caps fans are *******. So much for me liking them... The guy was obviously frustrated from Ovie dominating his team. I have said things like 'Oh, I wish Pronger would die' and what not. This is ridiculous. People say a lot of stuff on the internet that they don't actually mean; its tough to decipher sarcasm on a computer screen. Nonetheless that's what it is. Nothing more, nothing less. Caps fans should get over it and stop being babies about it. Going out of their way to cause trouble for that guy? Come on now...

sorry, a little bit of offtopic. Is it normal in NA to start investigation after a couple of words in the Internet? I would not say this is bad... here, in Finalnd we've got a couple of murders that could be prevented if the police would have tracked blogs and forums.

With all the crazy people going in and blowing people away at schools and alien centers (or whatever that place was) and going on massacre's every time we turn on CNN, then yes, this needs to be looked at and taken very seriously. You cannot trust people, threats need to be taken seriously.

If this wasn't taken seriously and people get killed, could you imagine all the outrage because it wasn't taken seriously... and could have been avoided.

I can't decide who's worse, Pens fans or Ducks fans...

There's all kinds of crazy people on the internet. Hell, I've even seen some people acting like stalkers on this forum. I'd take it seriously.

I think if it he leaves it at "Ovy should die" or something of that nature - maybe it has no legs and people ignore it.

But once he says, "I'll go to jail, I don't care anymore" it certainly becomes a lot more real sounding than before.

It won't hurt to check into it. Better to be safe than sorry. The whole "Oh it's just the internet" philosophy scares me.

A smiley or a "J/K" would have gone a long way in that post.

No s***. But to be honest, thats the kind of post that would get the response "woah buddy, back down from the ledge." It sounds like a desperate, deranged comment.

I'm sure the kid meant no harm, but better safe than sorry. If people are willing to kill presidents and celebrity musicians, theres no reason why someone cant do it to a superstar athlete.

Well, I mean, people have acted out on threats before. Given that, and how much the internet is being filled with stupid s*** similarly, it means things like that absolutely have to be taken seriously.

Not even threats, but just posting slandering information or something. Wasn't there a news anchor on TV fired for his comments online?

Anything that could potentially embarrass the Penguins franchise or Penguins fans MUST be investigated

Would it be out of the ordinary for an article to come out about Crosby whining that no one threatened him?
