RedStormRising 7 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 (edited) Halfway through the playoffs, who do you see as the top Conn Smythe candidates among all teams? Here's my list Detroit: Franzen/Osgood Chicago: Havlat Pittsburgh: Crosby Carolina: Staal/Ward I'd put Crosby out in front of everyone at this point (unfortunately). Fifey 3 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 Halfway through the playoffs, who do you see as the top Conn Smythe candidates among all teams? Here's my list Detroit: Franzen Chicago: Havlat Pittsburgh: Crosby Boston/Carolina: Thomas or Staal I'd put Crosby out in front of everyone at this point (unfortunately). Detroit: Cleary. Not just tonight's goal, but all three have been clutch goals. He leads the league in +/- and has been giving his all EVERY shift, despite being hurt. Chicago: Kane Pittsburgh: Gonchar Boston: Thomas; Carolina: Staal

stormboy 47 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 probably franzen or cleary for us...though osgood has been great. i haven't watched the other series quite enough to make a solid prediction...it's hard to say that crosby won't get it if the pens win, and from what i've seen, he deserves it. getzlaf would have probably been the mvp if anaheim had gone all the way, but, well...need i say more? Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 We're not even in the damn Stanley Cup Finals yet and you're already talking about Conn Smythe nominees? The juju is falling off the cliff, here.
TheOwl 77 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 Franzen may win it, he's certainly the Detroit MVP so far! Amazing that the play-offs are only half over!

Here's my list Detroit: Franzen Chicago: Havlat Pittsburgh: Crosby Boston/Carolina: Thomas or Staal I'd put Crosby out in front of everyone at this point (unfortunately). Crosby is far and away the most impressive offensive player in the playoffs right now. Ovi was real close, but Crosby put up an extra goal in one less game so he wins. We'll see how Crosby plays against a smothering Bruins defense that plays almost as well as Detroit's did last year (hint- check out his play in the finals... not exactly 1.60 points per game). Cam Ward can have that effect too. I really don't see the Pens moving on since they're defensively inferior to everyone else in the playoffs, but Crosby has been an absolute game breaker this post-season. Dynheart 42 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 Franzen for sure, but I think Osgood should get some consideration. Playing awesome IMO.
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 Detroit: Osgood/Franzen/Zetterberg (in that order) Chicago: 'bulin/Kane Pittsburgh: Crosby/Crosby/Crosby Boston: Thomas/Ryder (well Ryder more-so last round than this one) Carolina: Ward/Staal (Ward being way ahead of Staal)
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 Obviously still early to talk about it (especially with one series still not decided). However, it is fun: Wings: Osgood Hawks: Kane Bruins: Thomas Canes: Staal Pens: Crosby

Coolio Mendez 7 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 No doubt the award so far belongs to Crosby. Close second would have been Ovechkin, but with him out no one near Crosby as of yet.
Never_Retire_Steve 35 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 Detroit: Franzen (by far) Chicago: Kane Pittsburgh: Crosby Other series could hinge on game 7 winning goal as there are a lot of good candidates..... Ward/Staal, Savard/Ryder/Kessel/Chara Why is everyone so big on Thomas??
RedStormRising 7 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 (edited) Why is everyone so big on Thomas?? GAA 1.80 SV% .937 That's why... Pretty solid if you ask me. EDIT: And there goes Thomas' chance at the Conn Smythe... haha Edited May 15, 2009 by RedStormRising
David 2 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 At this point the front-runner would probably be Crosby. I have a question though. How is it that he scores so many goals from the EXACT same spot on the ice? He's always at the front of the net on the goalie's left side for almost every goal. How is it that NHL defensemen don't notice this and haven't made an adjustment? It's uncanny. I'll be amazed if he dominates as much against the Canes.
