Conn Smythe Front-Runner

Halfway through the playoffs, who do you see as the top Conn Smythe candidates among all teams?

Here's my list

Detroit: Franzen/Osgood

Chicago: Havlat

Pittsburgh: Crosby

Carolina: Staal/Ward

I'd put Crosby out in front of everyone at this point (unfortunately).

Detroit: Cleary. Not just tonight's goal, but all three have been clutch goals. He leads the league in +/- and has been giving his all EVERY shift, despite being hurt.

Chicago: Kane

Pittsburgh: Gonchar

Boston: Thomas; Carolina: Staal

probably franzen or cleary for us...though osgood has been great.

i haven't watched the other series quite enough to make a solid prediction...it's hard to say that crosby won't get it if the pens win, and from what i've seen, he deserves it.

getzlaf would have probably been the mvp if anaheim had gone all the way, but, well...need i say more?

Crosby is far and away the most impressive offensive player in the playoffs right now. Ovi was real close, but Crosby put up an extra goal in one less game so he wins.

We'll see how Crosby plays against a smothering Bruins defense that plays almost as well as Detroit's did last year (hint- check out his play in the finals... not exactly 1.60 points per game). Cam Ward can have that effect too.

I really don't see the Pens moving on since they're defensively inferior to everyone else in the playoffs, but Crosby has been an absolute game breaker this post-season.

Detroit: Osgood/Franzen/Zetterberg (in that order)

Chicago: 'bulin/Kane

Pittsburgh: Crosby/Crosby/Crosby

Boston: Thomas/Ryder (well Ryder more-so last round than this one)

Carolina: Ward/Staal (Ward being way ahead of Staal)

At this point the front-runner would probably be Crosby.

I have a question though. How is it that he scores so many goals from the EXACT same spot on the ice? He's always at the front of the net on the goalie's left side for almost every goal. How is it that NHL defensemen don't notice this and haven't made an adjustment? It's uncanny.

Well, the Pens haven't really gone up against a really good defense yet. I'll be amazed if he dominates as much against the Canes.
