WCF GAME 2 GDT: Blackhawks 2 at Red Wings 3 (OT)

"Detroit has given up a power-play goal in a franchise-record 11 straight playoff games. It is the NHL's longest streak during one postseason in two decades."

Found this line interesting from the ESPN recap for tonight's game. If you had told me at the start of the playoffs that Datsuyk would get one goal and our PK would be around a 70% effectiveness, I certainly wouldn't have thought we'd be in terrific shape.

i disagree about game one. after the first ten minutes of that game i thought we carried the play the rest of the way. i thought it was a well played game. not the emotional engagement we had against the ducks, necessarily, but solid. tonight however, even though we won, i think was our worst game of the playoffs. we just looked spent and disinterested. hope we don't develop a pattern...

I wasn't saying that the Red Wings didn't play a good Game 1, it's just it wasn't what we were seeing previously in terms of the vaunted effort, strong forecheck, willingness to pound the opposition defense. I haven't seen that in either game of this series yet. Hence my comment about the Wings getting by on skill and intelligence and notsomuch on determination and dogged effort.

I don't believe fatigue to be the only 'excuse' here. The emotional engagement in this series is absolutely, 100% not there (yet, hopefully). Let's face it, when you're going from an experienced, physical relentless Ducks team that was the last club to bounce you from the postseason to the peach-fuzz gee-wiz look-where-we-are Blackhawks you're going to have a letdown.

The Red Wings' overall talent has carried them to two opening victories in this series. But make no mistake, it's going to take more than just that to earn at least a split in Chicago.

Detroit should not be comforted by the fact they have a 2-0 lead in this series.

Maybe they're not engaged with the Hawks yet. But one thing that's been a problem since way before this series with Chicago is the PK. Eventually, this team has to go an entire game without allowing a PP goal. The overall team defense and goaltending have elevated significantly since the regular season. But the PK looks just as bad.

I don't even know what it is at this point. I think the loss of Lilja has hurt them and Kronwall is brutal on the PK. But overall, the entire team CAN'T CLEAR THE FRIGGIN' PUCK OUT OF THE ZONE. It's incomprehensible to me that a team that can make such effortless, beautiful plays with the puck somehow can't just fire it up and out. Gah.

You kidding? That third period was one of the worst ever in these playoffs. They were tired and yet they got away with it.

i think before the 3rd 5 on 5 we dominated the play 2/3rd of the gmae we were in control and we controlled OT

tsn thinks we were outplayed, i wouldnt say so

They outplayed us in the first some and when we sat on our lead, they also outshot us, but we threw far more rubber at their net (even though we probably missed a good 20 shots or so,) controlled the puck more. and most importantly had more scoring chances. It wasn't pretty and yes a very close game, but I thought we played better then them just to the degree that an OT victory was justified.

gotcha, i misinterpreted getting by on skill. either way, we agree about tonights effort. it won't get it done in chicago.

The first period was even. I feel like the Wings dominated the second and the first five minutes of the third and then werre badly outplayed the rest of the third. But in all honesty, I don't care. In the playoffs you take a win whichever way you can get it.

I agree that the Wings got outplayed this game. They pulled an Anaheim. They better be refocused next game because they weren't playing with enough intensity. Lidstrom had two penalties. What was that all about? The Wings need to have more puck possession in this next game and the big lines need to score. Hossa needs to get some goals.

our defense, pk, and goaltending have bewildered me all year. now our d and goal tending have been excellent. it stands to reason that our pk would have gotten a boost as well, yet it's terrible. that makes no sense to me.

I was looking at the postseason stats for Chicago and the Wings. I found it interesting that Chicago has allowed 14 more goals against that the wings: 40 to 26. As much heat the defense took in the regular season, they sure have stepped it up.

I'm SO glad all you girls come up with the kitty cut-ups. It's getting so that on the 5000-posts-for-the-win, these are the kind I mostly look for anymore. And some of the guy posters throw 'em in too and I'm grateful.

The game was pretty even from what I saw, but if I were to give a team a slight edge I'd have to give it to Chicago, for sure.

yeah id say they were even too but i dont think if we were outplayed it wasn't by much, but my point was tsn is searching for something

This is such an absurd statement on it's face; I find it to be positively delicious.

That is magnificence at it's best.

Awwwww.... kitteh!

The reward for my lucky kitty coming in right when OT started is that I'm going to put Wings shirts on them and take pictures for our "___ posts for a win" thread. they will hate me forever.

I was at a late class. Left just as the 'hawks tied it up. Can't believe I missed an OT win. :(

For people saying the Wings were outplayed...maybe in terms of hustle, energy, physicality. But at the end of the day (game) all that matters is the score on the scoreboard.

Not that I wouldn't like to see a better effort in Game 3.
