LionsAndRedwingsAndPistonsOhMy 3 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 I like watching them play....think they'll be a power in years to come, and it's fun to watch that develop......and I don't have any dislike for any them whatsoever. But yeah, I agree with disliking their fans.....but to be fair, I think it's only the ones who started watching Hockey within the last couple of months.....the old-timers are mostly likeable. EuroTwin 240 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 I have thought about this too and i agree. I don't like Byfuglien but that's about it. Like somebody else said, it's their fanbase that i can't stand but only because they hate us so passionately while we never really had a reason to think about them much. I like the chicago team itself but now i love just driving their fans insane. Anaheim though, that's a team where i hate both the players AND the fanbase. I feel that they are our biggest rival right now. QFT. I don't really hate any of them either. At most I get annoyed by them and some of them I'm just apathetic to and others I kind of like (Toews without his scary sideburns ). The only reason I'd really, really hate to lose to them (besides losing and not going to the SCF) is that their fanbase would be insufferable. I think I'll find Kane a bit less annoying once he and his game matures a bit.
Zion 93 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 The Hawks just barely made the playoffs this year. Give a possible rivalry some time to develop. Stupidest comment I've read today.
Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted May 21, 2009 I used to dislike Matt Walker when he was with St.Louis. We'd trounce them and Walker would always start s***. He's become a better player so I haven't noticed him doing the dirty things this series. Ben Eager? I haven't made up my mind on him yet. At first I thought, completely talentless pseudo-goon. I didn't even think he was much of a fighter. But he's a decent skater and decent player for somebody in his role. Plus, he's mouthier than all hell. He never ******* shuts up. Me, I love toughness but there's a limit to how much talking I can handle. If he'd just shut his yapper more often and just be a physical force I'd probably like him alot. The only guy I really don't like is Adam Burrish. His style is fun to watch and he's a hard working kid with a great story, that much I love. But he's just a dumb ass sometimes. He loses his cool and he doesn't even do it properly. Remember when Stu Grimson would lose his cool or Gino Odjick would lose his cool? They'd be malicious about it and there was no denying that those guys were out to inflict some pain. Burrish sort of does it underhanded and sneaky. That's not very "tough" in my book. If you're getting beat on the scoreboard and you want to send a message, then drill somebody or at least get your 2 minutes worth of roughing by popping somebody in the face. Man up and do it in front of everybody. So far these playoffs I have seen Burrish throw two very nasty cross checks at opposing players late in games. First he did it to Rene Bourque against Calgary and then he did it to Kris Draper. Bourque and the Flames lost their s*** over it. Draper sloughed it off like no biggie. Both times the x checks were vicious and both times he shattered his stick in 2 pieces on the recipients arm. IMO, pretty s***ty late game, ***** antics. I don't like that stuff. If Burrish manned up he would x check somebody enough to get their attention and try to get something started. Instead he reams them with a hard x check and hopes nobody sees it and continues to play on. I don't like Burrish for that reason.
Louisville 112 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 (edited) I like a lot of Hawks players...Sharp, Keith, Bolland, etc. But after living in Chicago for months, their fans are the pieces of s***. Hence, no respect for that team. I also think their managment is a joke, even post Bill Wirtz. They got so excited with the team they had, they go out and spend a ridiculous amount of money on Campbell, and sign what is essentially an expensive backup. Also, when you suck for that long and that bad, your bound to pick up a strong assortment of youth. That's not Rocky Wirtz "turning it around" besides him actually allowing fans to watch the team on TV. Had they not stolen Bowman from us, I'd really be laughing. GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 Players? Not really, although I don't care much for Kane. Fans? Absolutely. Blackhawks fans are the worst.
Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 I don't care about the Hawks, I don't know who any of them are. If I don't care, I can't hate them. They are basically faceless names that stand between us and a potential rematch with Pittsburgh. They could be any team from anywhere.
servo 15 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 In a few years we could grow to hate them as they mature into a potential powerhouse. They need to get their payroll settled before that will happen. There are a few gaps to fill yet.
Vincanni 1 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 Chicago is one of my favorite non-Wing teams and I will definitely root for them if they find a way into the SCF this year or next. I somewhat dislike Byfuglien, but that's about it. Some of their fans erk me the wrong way, but I could say that about any team, even for the Wings.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 Nah, I don't feel any hate or even dislike toward the Hawks. They're a young team and they're fun to watch. I guess it's also because I don't feel threatened by them. I believe we're going to take this series and that it'll be a huge learning experience for the Hawks.. so that helps to keep my feelings in line. Same here. After hating the Ducks so hard, the Hawks kind of pale in comparison. I don't really like Ben Eager, but meh, it's not like he's any form of relevant anyway. NomadFromKazoo 42 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 As I have looked over the boards for the last few days I've noticed very little emotion or anger towards the Blackhawks Ever since the hated Chelios left the rivalry hasn't been the same. Where did he go again? Hmm.maybe the Hawks need to hunt him down and bring him back to relight the rivalry .
Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted May 21, 2009 (edited) I like a lot of Hawks players...Sharp, Keith, Bolland, etc. But after living in Chicago for months, their fans are the pieces of s***. Hence, no respect for that team. I always tell people Chicago is the worst city I have ever been to in my life. I've been out West, been to the Big Apple, been to Paris, pretty much everywhere I have gone has been better and safer than Chicago. Accosted by overly zealous rent-a-cop outside of United Center for no apparent reason other than he OD'd on his 'roids. Drunken, moronic Hawks fan about 5 rows behind me in the upper deck is so drunk he falls forward, tumbles down all the rows and smacks me in the back of the head, spilling my beer. The fall bloodied him and they took him away. It was one of those times where I didn't feel bad that somebody was in bad shape. I pretty much was just pissed that this ******* fell on me. Crossing Michigan ave. a few drivers decided they don't have to yield to pedestrians and almost ran me over when the light changed. During x-mas season one year an old lady, and I mean old lady, pushed me out of the way with her cane and said something under her breath that sounded like "f-you" in front of the Nike store. Had dinner at the Rainforest Cafe I think and a young kid hit me in the knee with some damned stick or something that he yanked off the wall or whatever. Just came right up and whalloped me. Although in all fairness not sure he was trying to hit me, just wildly swinging and being an annoying little brat. Buddy got pestered by some kid trying to shine shoes in the middle of a park. I told my friend to just ignore the kid but he kept being polite to the kid and eventually the kid just plopped down while my friend was walking and tried to shine one of his boots! While we're walking. And these work boots! Not the kind of shoes you shine with anything other than dirt or cow manure. My buddy says "stop" and the kid gets up and says something like "5 bucks". My buddy says WTF are you talking about and the kid starts yelling and saying s*** to us before we finally just walk away and he leaves us alone. CHICAGO= WORST CITY I HAVE EVER BEEN TO......EVER! titanium2 867 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 First of all, great thread! I guess it's also because I don't feel threatened by them. I believe we're going to take this series and that it'll be a huge learning experience for the Hawks.. so that helps to keep my feelings in line. I feel a little threatened by Chicago but it's incredibly different than the threat from Anaheim. With Anaheim, you're afraid of one of the Wings players getting injured or worse. With Chicago, you're afraid of the Wings getting beaten by their own game, which is very possible from this Hawks group. I compare it to a learning perspective. Both teams are challenging but one is dumber and more tedious than the other. It's like certain classes you might have in school. Some you feel as if you really learned a lot about yourself and in the end you enjoyed the experience while others you learned that you could put up with a bunch of stupid bulls*** that you may look back on and feel as if you want that time back. It could be a learning experience for the Wings too. The Hawks may not be as good at the puck possession game as the Wings but it's possible that now or sometime later on they will have added their own dimension to it that the Wings can learn from. I don't like Eager. I respect Bfuglien because I can't remember him doing anything cheap. Not a fan of Eager. Other than the fact that he's good at what he does, I don't understand the piling hate towards Buff. I'd like Buff on my team but not Eager. In fact, why isn't Eager on the ducks where he belongs with the other piles of crap?

Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 A lot more fun and better aesthetic experience than Detroit. But also more expensive; at least to the places I've been. You have to know where to go. Avoid the touristy stuff. They'll overcharge you because they know they can. Navy Pier is pretty cheap and you can have a ton of fun there. Lincoln Park Zoo is free and there's a lot of fun things to see and do there. Avoid any restaurant that looks trendy. Chances are it's there to suck in out-of-towners. Pizzeria Uno is better for your money than Giordano's, although Giordano's pizza is better. Hang around the UIC campus, there's a lot of great, cheap places to eat and you're right near Greektown.
