wingfan1991 221 Report post Posted May 23, 2009 not sure if anyone noticed last night on the CBC feed, just as 2nd period was going to start.. they showed a shot of the wings bench with babcock leaning over talking to a linesman and franzen was laughing sitting on the bench. babcock sees/hears this and gives franzen a shot and rips into him. franzen quickly did the "big gulp in his throat". weird that this is the first time i saw something like this, especially after that Roenick story. Keep yelling Babcock! Your the man and know what it takes. Some may think you have the easiest job with all the skilled players we have, but it's the opposite. These guys need to driven to perform all the time, they have multiple rings, countless president's cup trophies, ahhh, why should we keep winning? BECAUSE BABCOCK SAID SO!!! The game was falling apart, Babcock was trying to get it under control and instill the fear of God into his team. Is there a coach out there that DOESN'T yell at the players from time to time? I actually took a closer look at it and I don't see it the way you see it at all. Babs was talking to ref and it seems like the player next to Franzen on the bench said something, gave his input on whatever they were talking about maybe, and Babs exchanged some words with that player. Babs was agitated but it seemed to be more in general about the way the game and the officiating had been than anything directed towards any of the Wings players. Fil was just observing the whole discussion. Pretty much what shoe said, although I think it looks like Babs was actually not talking to Franzen. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Green Wing 26 Report post Posted May 23, 2009 (edited) I remember a game against the Avs last season - I think it was the one where Laperriere hit Lidstrom, and Babcock and the Avs' Granato were squaring up to each other. And in the middle of Babcock puffing out his chest and giving it with both barrels to the Avs, Franzen was in the foreground and he starts laughing to himself. I'd imagine the banter can be pretty funny, even when it's supposed to be serious, and sometimes you gotta chuckle. Maybe this is the same thing. I definitely know what you are talking about, and was actually on the phone with my dad when it happened - he didn't see it because he was watching the Versus feed, but ya - it was weird as hell. I am not going to read to much into it, I was thinking that (if and I don't know the answer) Franzen was on the ice when the hit happened, Babcock put him on the spot while in discussion with the ref about something he may have heard or saw in relation to the play at hand. I don't know, it's a blind guess, but I did see it - and it definitely stood out to me. That said, how this has anything to do with Roenick is beyond me, seeing as though Roenik is claiming Babcock hates Americans and all. Last time I checked Franzen wasn't American.
