I'm sorry, it's in french.... The Journal de Montreal writers are in lock-out, and they started their own website in the meantime... They're talking at how Babcock's family members have been learning french and spending time in Paris. Also mentions some people in his entourage who might go to McGill University next year.

Wow, these people sure know how to put 2 and 2 together, what a joke!

Edit: I forgot to add the question mark in the title, sorry!

Oh, and I don't know if this belongs in rumors or not, seeing as it's a complete piece of sH&%$

Uh....le français québécois is a different dialect than France métropolitaine (standard french). Even if this rediculous story about spending time in Paris to learn french WERE true, it wouldn't make much sense anyway. Québécois and Métropolitaine have alot of differences.

Someone got bored and published crap.

"Different dialect" is being generous. Quebec French is ridiculous. :P

Babcock is currently the highest paid coach in the league and under contract with the best team in the league for another four years after this one. I doubt he would give it all up to move to Montreal. What would be the upside? I guess living in Canada but it's not like that's his home town or anything.

Rough translation of the article below.

Will Mike Babcock one day leave his post as coach of the Detroit Red Wings to return behind the bench of the Canadiens?

The file is interesting. According to a recent conversation with a friend from Montreal, Babcock confided that his wife and one of his daughters spent several weeks in Paris to learn French. Babcock said he also had the intention of seriously studying French during the upcoming weeks.

We know Babcock has spent several years in Montreal, spending four years studying at McGill University. He was a pillar of the Redmen defensive corps in the middle of the '80s.

There is a strong chance that another member of the Babcock family will study next year at McGill. Babcock and his family vacationed in Montreal last January, at the NHL All-Star Game. A visit to McGill's campus was organized for his wife Maureen and one of his daughters, Allie. The latter might begin her studies at McGill next year.

He's interested in Guy Boucher

At the time of the conversation with my friend, Babcock was informed of the eventual return of Guy Boucher to the professional ranks. In recent weeks, the name of the young coach of the Drummondville Voltigeurs has circled for the coaching job with the Hamilton Bulldogs, without forgetting the possibility of returning as assistant to Patrick Roy, to whom Pierre Lacroix has offered the job of coach and GM of the Colorado Avalanche.

Babcock confided to my friend in Montreal the mission of informing Boucher to call Babcock before accepting a job with an NHL team.

A fifth former Redmen

If Boucher can be found behind the bench of an NHL team, we would then speak of a fifth former Redmen to be found there. The first was Lester Patrick, GM and coach of the New York Rangers in the 1920's. George Burnett directed the Edmonton Oilers in the 1994-95 season.

This season, two former Redmen worked for an NHL team; Babcock as coach of the Red Wings and Jamie Kompon, assistant to Terry Murray with the Los Angeles Kings.

So....sheesh....it's basically not even a rumor. Just a dude talking.....and not even about Babcock, half of it.

Typical Montreal media. Remember the s*** storm they raised about the Kostitsyns? They have some of the most painfully reactionary news outlets ever.

Sorry to grammar-assault you, bud, but the term 'reactionary' in fact denotes an entity resistant to change.

Wow did I miss the boat on this thread.

I took the title to mean that Babcock is going to coach the Canadian Olympic team at the 2010 Winter Olympics next year. Took me a long time to even realize that Montreal has a hockey team let alone one called the Canadians. Have they done anything in the last 16 years? lol

I really thought it meant the Olympics and that is likely the only Canadian's that Babcock will be coaching. Yzerman knows winners and he knows Babcock. Time for team Canada to get whipped into shape by the coach.
