grindlinelove 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 Ok, boy, you've played GREAT overall. We've got a 2-1 lead in the series, and we have looked solid offensively. However, if you keep turning it over like you have been, it could cost us worse than it already has. That's something I don't want to think about, so PLEEASSE cure your turnover addiction!!!! crotty99 302 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 I agree turnovers are costing us, luckily we are usually good enough to overcome them. Would make life much easier if we cut it out though
Stiffy 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 You are not kidding. Apple, blueberry, cherry, with frosting and without, powdered sugar... any and all kinds of turnovers. The Wings have been coughing it up big time. I think a lot of it comes down to hustle. The Penns are just flat out out beating us to the puck and fighting harder for it. Here is what I am going to do. I am going to buy some really delicious turnovers and eat them to help alleviate this curse!

hooon 1,089 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 as much as i'd like to come on here and complain about the officiating (yes, pens fans it was AWFUL last night, you whined about 'luck' for the past 3 days well looks like you can STFU now), the wings did NOT play very well most of that game. They looked soo sloppy and confused most of the time. When our best players are turning the puck over AT ALL, we know its a problem
truebladearmy 33 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 Turnovers are usually the result of "trying to hard".
titanium2 867 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 Are the turnovers partially a result of Pittsburgh's defense that many (including some outside of DET) have underrated? And if so, how much so?
C20lw 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 The turnovers def made things a lot more difficult last night, especially with the pressure the pengs forwards put on us last night. We need to really watch the turnovers be the goal line. They resulted in a few scoring chances that could of turned this into a 6-2 game. I think we just lost the mental game, we knew a win would crush the pengs and give us a ton of momentum into game 4. Couple of sloppy passes, bad calls, too many turnovers, and 4 refs missing the 6 on 5... def makes pulling of a W a bit more harder. But this just opens the door for the Wings to win at home. Johnny Diamonds 25 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 Pittsburgh's forecheck has been solid in all 3 games and is causing most of the turnovers in our own end on routine plays. Everytime Ericsson is out there I fear he will turnover the puck. His play has been shaky since the Chicago series when he started getting destroyed by Byfuglien. Copenhagen848 58 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 I agree 100%. That is the one thing that I see happening consistently that really scares me. Way too many turnovers.....that and failing to clear the zone on simple/routine plays. If that doesn't get corrected, and fast......well, I don't even want to think about it..... hooon 1,089 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 yes the pens defense contributed to turnovers of course... but how many times did the wings, even lidstrom, just blindly throw the puck up the middle (which is something we are encouraged from the mite and squirt level NOT to do). wings cant make it that easy for them. Nightfall 871 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 I agree turnovers are costing us, luckily we are usually good enough to overcome them. Would make life much easier if we cut it out though Turnovers are another thing we can't blame the refs over. The Wings are shooting themselves in the foot more often than the Pens, but you have to agree that the Pens are outhustling the Wings for those opportunities. The Talbot breakaway when we coughed it up in the slot last night was disgusting, but he got that opportunity because he outworked our defense for it. Yes, we are trying to do that but it hasn't equated to goals yet. Our luck will turn around eventually, but we have to start doing better in our own end first. eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 Could you please explain that a little more? The difference is that defense usually creates the defensive player taking the puck away, while a turnover is more of our player making a mistake and passing poorly or misplaying the puck in a fashion that was not directly caused by a defensive player. For example, if Filppula is skating up the middle and drops the puck behind himself, as a pass intended for a winger, but instead a Pens player picks up the puck, that would be a turnover. If the Pens player had knocked the puck of Filppula's stick, it would be a takeaway.
