I really, really, really hope that Pavel is ready and raring to go and they just aren't saying anything to f*** with the Pen's minds. Hey, a girl can dream. C20lw 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 It will be excellent if we can get Dats back out there. Even if not at 100% I think his presence alone will boost the team a bit and put some more fear in the pengs. Glad to see Draper getting back in there. We have been losing a lot of faceoffs. Lets get some puck possession back and show the Pengs how its done.

dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 Awesome news. I really think Pavel is going to play Game 4. If he's this close, I can't imagine him sitting out another game. It would be nice to get his and Draper's fresh legs into the lineup, and they're both very good in the face-off circle.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 Per Bruce MacLeod - http://redwingscorner.blogspot.com/ UPDATE: Babcock just said that Datsyuk is a game-time decision. "We have an optional skate tomorrow morning and we'll see how he responds after that and after today. I have to talk to (trainer) Piet (Van Zant) and see how (Datsyuk) looks." Datsyuk also said that he would be a game-time decision tomorrow. That said, Datsyuk was practicing hard today, doing drills for the first time in a long time. The practice lines were shuffled as though they were preparing for Pavel being back. It sure looks like Datsyuk will be back unless his body takes a step backwards after today's workout. Huge! (That's what she said)
sherwood40 16 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 I just heard that Draper will be in for game 4 vs those non flying birds, thank god now we can shot those ugly birds down in game 4. Now we just need to get dats in so we can control the game like we did in the 2nd period of game 3. GO WINGS

40#1Fan 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 http://www.detroitnews.com/article/2009060...906030435/1361/ Pavel Datsyuk looks 'good' in practice, Holland says Associated Press Pittsburgh -- The Red Wings might get some help when they play the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Thursday night. Pavel Datsyuk practiced with the Wings on Wednesday, a day after a 4-2 loss to Pittsburgh cut their lead to 2-1 in the series. "I feel more comfortable," he said. Wings general manager Ken Holland said Datsyuk "looked good," adding his status would be determined after Thursday's morning skate. Holland added that Datsyuk will be healthy enough to play at some point in the Cup Finals if he isn't cleared to play in Game 4. Datsyuk has missed five games with a foot injury. Coach Mike Babcock said Kris Draper will play in Game 4, but did not know who he would scratch. Draper had been cleared to play after being sidelined by a sore groin, but Babcock was reluctant to make changes after Detroit beat the Penguins in the first two games of the series. The Wings will count on Draper -- and hope to have Datsyuk back -- to help their weakness of killing penalties. They gave up two power-play goals in Tuesday's loss

87to71 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 Before Datsyuk went out he was averaging a little more than .5 points per game. Babcock had better hope Datsyuk is healthy and effective enough to play because your whole ability to skate depends on the strength of your feet and your ability to move side to side and create things. Datsyuk hasnt played in about 3 weeks and while he is still a very very good player he could end up being very rusty out there and end up turning the puck over on more then one occasion that could lead to numerous scoring chances for the Penguins... ! Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 Sidnote: Would anyone be that upset if they went with these lines regardless if Homer is healthy or not. He's been extremely ineffective these playoffs and against a puck-moving team like Pittsburgh, IMO it wouldn't be the worst thing to see him sit. The top three lines can all score as well as play great defense, while the bottom line has two solid defensive players with a guy that can create flashes of offense. I'll take it. Franzen-Zetterberg-Cleary Filppula-Datsyuk-Hossa Hudler-Helm-Samuelsson Leino-Draper-Maltby I'd be upset I agree that regardless of injury Homer's been ineffective these playoffs. That being said, he had two points in game 2, and I thought last night was one of his best games in a long time--he was much more effective with screens, deflections, and in the corners than he's been for a long while. I'd give him another game. And I would definitely play Abdelkader over Leino for the reasons already stated. Heck, if the Wings had gotten him on the ice during the 3rd minute of the 3rd period yesterday, he might have gotten the go ahead goal.
Ladsud2002 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 That would be good. To me, it seems that Leino tries to do too much on his own. Instead of looking for a pass he holds onto the puck, spins around and then loses it. Sounded like Hossa on the radio last night. Granted I wasnt able to watch the game but from what I heard, he tried to play the game by himself, holding onto pucks for way too long. Id like to see him make a nice quick pass and then charge the net instead of trying to bull his way around with the puck on his stick.
CenterIce 83 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 I think it goes back to the first round when Fatty Hitchcock said that the Wings were cheating on the faceoffs. Ever since then we have been getting the boot x30. It goes back way father than that. Usually, it was just Draper getting tossed out, but now, Zetterberg has joined that club. He could.. but when have you ever seen Datsyuk come off an injury and turn the puck over countless numbers of times? You don't. Datsyuk is one of the best players in the league. If Crosby were injured, I'd expect him to be able to pick his game back up as well. Datsyuk hasn't been putting up points - that's true. But he has been a solid play maker in the games he's been in. A good portion of Detroit's scoring chances came directly from plays he made.

If that wasn't the case, he wouldn't be playing. If they were just gonan throw a 50% Datsyuk in he would have been in game 1. Adding a hart trophy candidate, top 5 player in the league is a huge boost to any team. Let's not get carried away here.
Theophany 110 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 I'd rather tomorrow's lines with Dats being: Mule-Zata-Hudler Filp-Dats-Hossa Cleary-Helm-Sammy Maltby-Draper-Abdelkader That's just me personally, though. I don't really care if Hudler and Cleary are switched up as long as Dats is playing opposite Malkin.

All fair points. I don't suspect his rustiness would lead to turnovers, but his foot affecting his skating to the point where it's creating problems in the defensive zone is an obvious concern. As for Pavel averaging .5 P/gm--yeah, Wings fans would like him to score more, but I don't think many would mind at this point if he came back healthy enough to help our anemic PK and take some weight off Zetterberg defensively to allow that line the chance to produce more. RedwingsPwn 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 Although abby has scored 2 big goals i think i would want leino because he can hold the put down in the zone very effectively and cause the pens to play defense and become tired.
