Wings Tired

There's no question the Wings are running on fumes right now. Babcock said it himself, they won game 2 on will alone. From that 7 game war with Anaheim straight into Chicago then straight into Pittsburgh with the back to backs, against an energised and hungry team with 2 elite offensive players.

Add to that who knows how many players are playing injured - Lidstrom has had the elbow all season now his groin as well, Draper, Rafalski. I think Sammy and Homer are playing hurt as well.

There is a 2 day break after game 5, right? Win or lose, we're going to need it, because Malkin and Crosby are wearing Zetterberg out like we wore out Getzlaf.

I said they were tired. I didn't say they were old. If anything the wings have more young talents in the system than the pengs. The wings had to play playoff worthy teams to get here. Not minor league teams like the Canes. So its understandable that they're fatigued.

BINGO! ..... This is a person who get's it. The Red Wings are old and tired. They're playing against a skilled youthful team who is just now ready to get it on.

Gotta love the 'Wings are old' argument when even a casual glance at the roster shows that this year Detroit is younger and faster than it was last year.

Should the Pens win tomorrow night against an old and tired Detroit team, it's "game over" .... Time to start thinking about rebuilding and going with a "youth" movement like the Pens did.

Whoa! This is definitely sig worthy :D

Wings didn't practice today. No excuses for tomorrow.

Like someone else noted, theres 2 two day breaks between games for the rest of the series. If we win game 5, i LOVE our chances.

The Penguins have played the same exact schedule with only one extra day off then the Wings...People need to stop using the early schedule as an excuse to why the Wings are losing now. Funny I didnt hear anybody saying this s*** on Sunday night after the Wings were up 2-0. People were saying they won because they were the superior team then the Pens and their depth was too much for the Pens to handle. Now all of a sudden the Wings after losing two games are tired and fans are blaming the schedule...You cant have it both ways fellas...

We need to play with more heart and desperation, since that's the only way to get around being tired.

At this point, there's no reason we should be more fatigued than them. We have a lot of young guys on our team with only a few veterans that either never look tired, or play on the 4th line where they never have to get tired.

The injuries are a different reason, however, and those can make players look like they're tired when they're really hurt.

Really, the penguins had the exact same schedule against a brutally physical Anaheim, and a slew of injuries in the Chicago series?

i thought they played Physical lightweights in Washington and a shell of a team in Carolina.

Comments like this set me the hell off.

The Wings are old theory is such BS. You do me a favor and tell me how it is that the Wings are so old? Look at the roster and name me the players that drag this team down cause of their age? If you can name half the team or more, I'll shut up. Until then maybe you should because age has nothing to do with this. The Wings have been labeled that for YEARS and look where that's got them. Not to mention the team has gotten much younger over the past couple years, but I guess whatever works for you Pens fans eh?

Im speaking of in terms of number of days off this series...Why does everyone have to keep bringing up the Hawks and Ducks series and who the Pens played?? Does it matter now who the Wings beat to get here?? Is it going to help them win the next 2 games they need to win?? Stop talking about the Ducks and Hawks yayyyyyy we know they were ******* awesome and unstoppable and you guys beat them....You want a cookie

When you get a free ticket to the finals it generally helps a bit against a team that actually needed to work, sure.

Obviously you are a remarkably unintelligent person, so I'll break it down nice and slow like so you can understand.

Even though the amount of rest and games the Penguins and Red Wings teams played were similiar, the games the Red Wings did play were much more physically taxing, and many Red Wings got hurt as a result. Even with that, the Wings are still playing pretty well, all things considered.

lets look at it this way. The Red Wings best players are Pavel Datsyuk and Nicklas Lidstrom. They were for a time both out with injuries, and the Red Wings still found ways to win.

What would happen if Malkin and Crosby were injured?

We have key injuries, you do not. Very simple concept.

I am pretty sure a lot of people were not quite happy with our performances in games 1 and 2 and even babcock himself said that he thought we looked exhausted.

Well Malkin was supposedly sick last year and look what happened. The Wings dominated that series outside maybe four periods.

Take Malkin out of the lineup and insert a healthy Datsyuk and this series is probably over.

And I don't buy the "Wings are old and tired" BS either. Every key player outside of Lidstrom and Rafalski are in their prime or early 20's.

Can't someone ban this dbag flame inciting troll. If he can't make anything but stupid and ignorant comments designed to cause problems can we get rid of him?

By going with a "youth movement like the Pens did" do you mean tank for 5 years and pick up as many high first round picks as they can?

I guess if we sucked for years on end we could get the "youth movement" too (even though there is just a couple of years between the finals roster teams ages)

Um yeah you can have it both ways, because the concepts are not mutually exclusive. You should think before you post. The first statement does not negate the second statement, nor does the second nullify the first. They can both be true, the first statement "they won because they were the superior team then the Pens and their depth was too much for the Pens to handle" can be true and the Wings although the schedule screwed them (and it was not just Wings fans saying this go read almost any sports site and they were all saying it and how messed up it was and hadn't been done in 50+ years) were able to persevere as the superior and deep team. That being said 4 games in 6 nights and 5 in 8 wore on the Wings who played a much more physical team in Anaheim than the Pens did in Washington and then were hit by injuries depleting their team and wearing them down more than a team with an almost full roster. Wow two comments can both be true, who would have thought. An orange is the color orange and an orange has a peel, oh wait I can't have it both ways, . . . wait yes I can because more than one thing can be true, fella.

Oh and to quote my friend thedatsyukian:

We are missing our selke winner, leading point getter, top +-, power play anchor, and hart trophy candidate player. All while our captain is just coming off an injury yet we are still managing to hang in this series.

Were the Pens, rather than the Wings, missing that much (minus a selke winner obviously ) the series would not even be over already rather than tied at two apiece.

Lets put it this way 87to71; if the wings played in the east since the 90's I believe we would have at least 2 more cup finals appearances. The east is more offensive oriented and plays a less grind it out physical style like it is in the west. To say who you played in the previous rounds doesn't matter is pretty ludicrous. Then again I don't expect much intellectual capacity from a pens fan like you.

Oh you mean sucking for years and getting the top draft pick multiple times?

Pittsburgh was a moderate favorite to win game 4 ($140 to win $100) and won. The Wings are a heavier favorite to win game 5 ($155 to win $100). Obviously, the people who make a living on the outcome of sporting events dont think the wings are an old and tired team.

You mean sucking ass in order to rack up a handful of Top 3 picks? No thanks. But its good to see the only way the Pens can be competitive is through 1st and 2nd overalls.

:caution: And should the Wings win tomorrow night against the slightly younger and overpaid (comparatively to Detroit's stars) I guess they can tank for a few more years so that they can get some more 1st and 2nd draft picks, they obviously don't have the ability to draft well deep or entice free agents (just ask Hossa ). If in your opinion it is "game over" if the Pens win (and that wouldn't even win the Cup) what will it be for the Pens they will be down to the Wings again and lost last year - sooooo who should rebuild. Seriously though, you are the first and only moron that I have ever heard float this idea concerning the Wings.

Hahaha, yah man I totally agree. I'ld rather have a team revered as one of the greatest franchises of all of sports (18 playoff births in a row and counting) than some bandwagon team that has a few lucky draft members.

I was a little worried about the Wings, but this thread has really brightened my spirits. The Wings will prevail!!! :champs:
