daniel1 32 Report post Posted June 7, 2009 Jealous? That sounds kind of weird. With all that talent I'm not sure what Sid has to feel jealous about. How about 2 Stanley Cups a Conn Smythe Trophy, and the respect and admiration of your peers. Or if that isn't enough, how about the knowledge that Z doesn't cheap shot, whine, or do stupid things which costs his team wins in the Stanley Cup finals? When he's done feeling jealous of all that then he can flip through the various website and magazine photos of Z's girlfriend and their awesome life together as he crawls up the stairs from Mario's basement for his mac and cheese dinner with the twisty straw in the juice box that Mario's wife makes just the way he likes it. Jake Ryan 1 Report post Posted June 7, 2009 Zetterberg absolutely owns Crosby. It's hilarious. Crosby has had one decent game this whole series, and that was a game where Z didn't blanket him. Crosby's tears aren't really tears, you know. They're sweat beads. It gets really hot wearing Zetterberg and his burly beard all over the ice.
jvxp 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2009 He's jealous that Hank has outplayed him two years in a row now in the Finals, and he's jealous that he's not as good a two-way forward that Hank is. That's why he's showing frustration and acting like a little *****. He's just outclassed by Zetterberg in front of the hockey world yet again, and he can't handle the embarrassment. So true! eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted June 8, 2009 What year did Stevie start killing penalties on a regular basis? Just curious as I don't remember. Stevie was killing penalties as far back as his 100-point days...don't remember exactly when he started though. But I do know he is the only player in history (and likely the only player who will ever do it) to score 150 points or more in the same season as he received at least one first-place Selke vote. Wingsfan1987 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2009 You have to start to wonder if this is an organization thing. You never see this kind of stuff with Detroit, EVER! And we've seen this team win big and lose big. Detroit is gracious in defeat. I wonder if the Wings organization teaches the players to behave, or drafts guys who keep their cool in tough times? I think it comes down to the fact that we draft our players and they go into the minors for at least a year before they come up...They grow up before they play in the NHL, and (IMO) because they are looking up from the minors they see our top guys: Lids, P-Daddy, Z, Ozzie, etc...be classy players, and they learn to be classy as well...But of course, it could be that we find the guys who keep their cool... b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted June 8, 2009 It really makes you think: what if Sid was in the Western Conference all year? Zetterberg takes Bettman's RBK selling-machine and makes him look awful pedestrian. God, I love watching Zetterberg and Crosby battle, entertaining, hard-fought hockey, that Sid then turns from a mutual battle to a outright Zetterberg victory by showing childish frustration. EuroTwin 240 Report post Posted June 8, 2009 (edited) It really makes you think: what if Sid was in the Western Conference all year? I see your theoretical question and raise you one. What if the Wings had drafted Sid and made him go through our system before coming up to play at the NHL level? Edited June 8, 2009 by EuroTwin
titanium2 867 Report post Posted June 8, 2009 (edited) I see your theoretical question and raise you one. What if the Wings had drafted Sid and made him go through our system before coming up to play at the NHL level? His parents would demand a trade because he wouldn't get those 100+ point seasons. The league may not be as popular as it is today but Sid would probably be a better player overall. Which is more important to him? Thing is, I think Sid has a big enough God complex that he wouldn't have his life any other way than he does now. He loves being the star, the guy who rescues a dying franchise and there's nothing wrong with that. If he wants both then he's going to have to be a little more patient and he's well on his way. RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted June 8, 2009 Perhaps Crosby is jealous of the one thing Hank's got that he doesn't -- hockey smarts. Until he develops that by himself, which he will in time of course, he's got every reason to be jealous. For the record, all present grudge aside, I think Crosby will be insanely good in a few years when he matures. In the long run, he'll outshine both Ovechknin and Malkin. We're all having fun picking on him because he is the opposition, and well, it's easy to do the way he is acting. However, he is very young - Hank is what about 6-7 years older than him? You'd think Sid might actually be as mature as Hank in 6-7 years (will he ever grow Hank's beard though, I doubt it ). Remember the Wings groom their players very well, Crosby was just tossed onto a very very bad team at the time right out of the gate and expected to save the franchise. No wonder he acts like he does....
TheOctopusKid 19 Report post Posted June 8, 2009 "Fans don't boo nobodies" - Reggie Jackson Let's purpose a hypothetical situation - YOU are 18 years old and considered the be the finest hockey player in a generation. You are adored and cheered by every single coach, player, fan and citizen of a nation. You have been blessed with undeniable talent and have worked as hard as anyone to be the very best that you can be: 5am practices, lighting, running, studying tape and adhering to the advice of the professional players who actively seek you out to speak to you. You're drafted and anointed as "The Next Great One" - which any comparison to 99 is absolute insanity. But media loves a good story - and always tries to capture an audience with the next best thing (i.e. any Heir Apparent to Michael Jordan). Now, the league you idolized growing up is coming out of lockout and needs to drastically change it's image and the owners, player's union, marketers, sponsors have all turned there attention to you to lead them. You are offered multi-million dollar contracts from Reebok, Gatorade, Vitamin Water, etc. Would you turn any of this down? The money? The endorsements? The fame? So, you're an 18 year old kid who is now has the future of the NHL (not because you announced to the world that you were - but because the marketing plan devised by the NHL was to focus on the new wave of talent and stars) How would you want to respond to this? As an 18 year old kid, defer to your teammates even though you know that you're more talented? Choose to live in the house of your owner instead of using your new money to buy a ridiculous house to hold endless parties? Would you set franchise records for points, goals and assists as a rookie and youngest ever? Would you turn down a captaincy until you thought you were mature enough to handle it (first 2 seasons)? And when you did accept it, the next season lead your team to the Stanley Cup Finals? Sidney Crosby is a premier talent in this league - he has done everything right while under incredible scrutiny. He has respected the game and its traditions and to the best of my knowledge, never said a disparaging word about another player. I respect the sheer amount of criticism that Crosby has taken and how he has received it with grace and general civility. He has never taken away from another team - never called out an opponent, not a single teammate that he has had has ever accused him of preferential treatment or a poor work ethic. Sidney Crosby exemplifies many of the attributes that make me a fan of the Red Wings - humility, class, a quiet workman-like approach to the game, skill, and mindful and respect of his teammates. All he has done, is work hard - try to remain humble - and do what is best for hockey - and his team. He is an outstanding talent and I know that I respect what he brings to the ice - and how he conducts himself off of it. The NHL couldn't ask for a better ambassador for the game. Besides - there are plenty of assholes who deserve my spite over Sid the Kid (Pronger - I'm looking in your general direction).

Besides - there are plenty of assholes who deserve my spite over Sid the Kid (Pronger - I'm looking in your general direction). I agree with the vast majority of what you've written. Sid did not ask for the fame and attention. He has handled most situations quite well for his age. He does come across as whiny after losses, but I chalk that up to disappointment. Who wouldn't feel like crying after losing the Cup? Then 5 minutes later, to have to get it together and answer questions to the media? I'd be in tears. I think that will come with age and experience. He does need to work on his on-ice maturity. It has to be frustrating losing on national tv. Just ask Chicago. Both are young teams, and both were gooning it up after a game was out of reach. They will learn. This is where the advantage of veteran leadership comes in. When you've "been there, done that" with both winning and losing, you learn how to handle both better.

Guest micah Report post Posted June 8, 2009 I'm jealous of Sid. He's 21 and he's already recognized as being one of the bestr hockey players in the world. I'm pretty close to Zetterberg's age, and like Zetta, I'm currently recognized as one of the top few people in the world in my profession. Also like Zetta, I was a nobody when I was 21. Crosby is an amazing player, and considering the fact he's only 21, he has absolutely nothing to appologise for and absolutely nothing to be jealous of. Barring some freak carreer ending injurry, history might just remember Crosby as top-ten all-time, while Zetterberg will be forgotten by most. Sucks, but that's the way it is. Guest micah Report post Posted June 8, 2009 Ok, now I'm curious. What do you do? I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you. It's very top secret and sexy, involving rockets and time travel, mostly. Okay, not really. It isn't sexy at all, and very few people know what it is much less care to have a thourough understanding of it. It's a manufacturing engineering niche. To say more than that might give away my identity, then I'd risk losing my superpowers:(
Guest micah Report post Posted June 8, 2009 Only 21? He is no kid anymore, he is an adult and he needs to start acting like one. Hmm. He's the Captain of a profesional sports team that's contending for the league championship. That's not nothing. When I was 21 I was doing kegstands and chicks that looked fatter in the morning than they did the night before. I think Syd is doing A-OK for 21.
