^ After these mediocre play-offs by the passenger Hossa, why would you take him over Stuart. Don't you think that 6 million could be much better spent on a guy who can actually score?

Great point. That bum only scored 40 goals in the regular season.

I've seen you rail against Hossa on more than one occasion. Did he not sign your puck one night or something? Grow up.

Don't take it personal on this board it's what have you done for me lately.

That doesn't mean I think we should get rid of Stu (or anyone else for that matter) to keep Hossa. I love Hossa but it's a tough decision and one I am glad I don't have to make.

He's not even playing poorly. He's doing everything but scoring and the Wings are winning. Babcock said the exact same thing.

We will definately have to trade/release a defenseman because even if Cheli is gone we will have 8 and even if we don't resign Hossa I dont think we can keep 8 defenseman. It sucks but either Hossa, Rafalski, Kronwall or Stuart won't be on this team next year.

Assuming Maltby and Homer retire:

2009-2010 Detroit Red Wings

FORWARDS

Pavel Datsyuk $6,700,000

Henrik Zetterberg $6,083,333

Johan Franzen $3,954,545

Valtteri Filppula $3,000,000

Daniel Cleary $2,800,000

Kris Draper $1,583,333

Mikael Samuelsson $1,200,000

Jiri Hudler $1,015,000

Ville Leino $875,000

Justin Abdelkader $850,000

Darren Helm $599,444

Aaron Downey $500,000

DEFENSEMEN

Nicklas Lidstrom $7,450,000

Brian Rafalaski $6,000,000

Brad Stuart $3,750,000

Niklas Kronwall $3,000,000

Andreas Lilja $1,250,000

Jonathan Ericsson $900,000

Chris Chelios $750,000

Derek Meech $483,333

GOALTENDERS

Chris Osgood $1,416,666

Ty Conklin $750,000

Gives 1.78M to play with for raises and the like, and keeps this team strong for the long haul. Yeah, Cheli's still in there, pretty much as a depth pick.

Don't forget, the roster needs 22 players.

There are 23 roster spots, but not all have to be filled. I don't think the Wings will be able to carry more than 21 players (with everyone healthy) next year. They may even have to go with 20 just to fit under the cap.

hmmm seems like theres no room for hossa if u wanna keep a good D corpse and depth up front.

Basically what has been said from the moment we signed him lol, well, at least by the people who understand the cap and the long-term ramifications of re-signing Hossa to anything over 3MM cap hit

I see you went with the bare minimum of players and a very nice low cap hit to hossa to boot, how generous of him ;). And don't forget, even if Draper retires his cap hit still counts against us.

Rafalski won't retire...Meech will be on the roster and Kindl will still be in Grand Rapids.

And you have HAL GILL on the Wings' roster?? For $1.5m? One, he'll get a better offer elsewhere because of his size. Two, he is the exact opposite of the Wings' system...he's slow, can't handle the puck, and his defense is primarily based on hitting the puck carrier (or someone else) rather than blocking lanes and preventing shots.

Guerin and Gill will stay in Pittsburgh, probably for more than you listed them for here. Look for Samuelsson to come back instead of Guerin.

actually on my roster I had Rafi retiring. I just kinda get the sense that if we win it all this year, this may be his last go around. I mean what else is there to do for him. He's at the peak of his game. He's still got it but occasionally his age shows a little. I mean what does he have to look forward to hanging around until everyone on this board starts bitching at him about missing assignments because he's "lost a step"
