Dany Heatly

Dany Heatly has asked to be traded from Ottawa and I think he would be a perfect addition to our team. Big guy, finishes checks and can score. I would really like to see him brought in, maybe even more then I would like Hossa to stay. What do you all think of this?

Ok, well I agree it would be wonderful to have a talented player such as he on our team. But trade what for him? Ottawa is not gonna just give him away. They originally traded a much younger version of Marian Hossa for him. So I suspect they wouldn't move him unless they were getting a player of equal value for him.

Heatly makes $8mil per with a $7 hit against cap. It is not possible I don't think. Plus he has been in the East for a long time.... That makes him risky coming from the minors to the Pro's over here in the West.

Exactly, this is a bit of a pipe dream. If this were still pre salary cap era you'd say: ok get Heatly and Kovalchuck problem solved! But that's just not the case now.

puff puff pass...

Crazier things have happened... remember when Marian Hossa turned down lucrative long term deals to sign in Detroit for a year? You never know. It is the Red Wings I am talking about, the only team I can think of that players want to take less to play for the most successful organization of nearly the last 2 decades. You never know what Kenny Holland can make happen. It's fun to play armchair GM sometimes.

This has nothing to do with players signing for less. He's already locked up to a contract, a lucrative contract, one that has him at a what, $7.5mil cap hit or so? Not only is that salary outside our price range, but Ottawa is going to want something in return- someone out there will be willing to give up big value for Heatley (Edmonton) so there's simply no way Bryan Murray is going to send him away for cheap.

If he was a free agent, this may be more within the realm of possibility; however, as a trade, with a contract already in place, this is simply not going to happen.

Filpula + Hudler maybe? I'd go for that...

Yeah a second and third liner for a NHL star calibur player that puts up more points in a year then almost everyone on the team. Ottawa GM would definitly go for it. I love the trade offers sometimes. Just last week I offered to trade a guy his fully loaded challenger for my ford focus. I still cannot believe he turned it down. I see the upside why can't he?

ALSO Heatly is under a contract! He can't take a pay cut. I know it is confusing....

If Danny says he wants to be in Detroit and will take less to have a chance at winning the Cup, please please please PASS!

He can't. He's signed already.

Anyways, Bryan Murray will try to take somebody to the cleaners in this trade. I have a feeling his job may depend on it. He's certainly running out of time to show Eugene Melnyk that he can turn that team around.

It'll cost a top prospect, a 1st round pick and a young roster player with lots of upside and perhaps a veteran contract to soak up some of that cap hit going the other way.

Flip is not going anywhere. He proved his value in the playoffs and he is essential to have on a line with Hossa. Flip was tied for the team lead in assists with Z. Kenny wouldn't trade him last year. Why would this year be any different?

Why would he wanna play in detroit?

And his contract is just too huge, it's basically against "wings-post-nhl-lockout-policy"

We can't sign him, any team who signs him on july 1st has to pay his garunteed money... its like 4m and its way too much against the cap.

What?

Do you mean he has a $4 million bonus on July 1st? If so, that doesn't affect his cap number, it's still the same...$7.5 million.
