Doc Holiday 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 It is funny how the Vezina and Norris went to players of the same ******* team. I guess Thomas's numbers had nothing to do with Chara, or the other way around? Chara's numbers were barely better (if at all in a lot of categories) than Lidstrom's, while playing with a much better (we are talking #1 compared to arguably #30) goaltender in the regular season. Sorry Chara, that isn't your Norris.
EuroTwin 240 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 Chara definitely deserves his moment after being the bridesmaid for the past couple of years. And you get the award for most bizarre mental image of the night! *clap clap clap* Here to accept is Chara in teal taffeta with puff sleeves and a full skirt. And sequins. egroen 384 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 Just watched the award show via DVR. I found it hilarious that almost everyone at the podium (although many seeming reluctantly) had to say congrats to the Pens. Seemed very forced on many occasions as if someone was holding a gun to the player's heads. Do they really have to remind everyone who won the cup...I thought getting their name on it was enough. Bettman initially insisted insisted they all had to congratulate "Sidney Crosby" but the NHLPA stepped in and threatened to boycott the ceremony.

An email told me AND it offered to sell me the special pills Lidstrom used!

Captain_Yzerman19 1 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 (edited) I have a little problem with Chara winning over Lidstrom, but Green over Liddy too!?!?! That is absolutely OUTRAGEOUS! Unless, you know.... scoring goals wins the Norris. This is a defensive trophy. Mike Green doesn't know what that means. eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 Well, they're both awarded to the MVP, it's just who votes on it that's the difference. In the last 10 years, there have been 4 times that the players and media didn't agree and the Hart and Pearson were awarded to different players. Technically, the Pearson is for the best player, not the MVP. Read the description. The Hart is for the MVP, yet the media often votes as if it were for the best player. If the Hart were voted by the media for the actual MVP...Yzerman would have won at least three times during the late 80s and early 90s. I don't know if Gretzky has ever actually deserved the Hart, regardless of whether he was the best player in the league. His supporting cast was a bunch of great players, so it's hard to say he was the most valuable player when his team is a bunch of Hall of Famers in their primes. PavelHossyukstrom 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 mike green deserved the norris this year, nick was only nominated because of his name.. yeah and the only reason Green was even nominated was because he broke the record for consec games with a goal. If he doesn't do that he doesn't get in IMO.

Gretzky was consistently involved in 50% of Edmonton's goals -- and scored 80-100 points higher than the nearest Oilers player on more than one occasion. Ultimately, the literal description of the Hart makes it a stupid award for the most valuable regular season trophy, that they should just change it to how it is usually voted on anyways. Who cares who is "most valuable to HIS team"? I care who was the best player. Period. If the literal definition of the trophy was used consistently, Mason would have won it this year and a good goalie on a crappy "just made it to the playoffs" team would win it every single year. Lidstrom has been jobbed on that award so many times I want to puke.

Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 I can honestly say I was very surprised to see that Green didn't win the Norris. Very pleasantly surprised, I should add. Although for all the reasoning that could have gone into the Green vote (lolgoals), basically anything falls flat on its face trying to compare Chara to Lidstrom. No offense meant to Chara, who's a great player, but he's not as good a defensemen as Nick, and didn't have as good a season as Nick, and virtual any statistic can bear that out, which is the only thing Green will ever have on our main man. MidMichSteve 1,115 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 Too bad for Lids. If they could consider the playoffs he would have to get the Norris on principle (anyone who plays with a ruptured ******** gets an award from me!!!). Chara definitely deserves his moment after being the bridesmaid for the past couple of years. And the Bustanut award goes to *Drum roll* Patrick Sharp. Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted June 19, 2009 I think you're the one that needs to stop. I am entitled to my opinion without being belittled by you. Yeah, but when you've been here for all of about 5 minutes and come off like a prick, then expect to get treated like a prick. Now go suck one Dorothy. Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted June 19, 2009 I wouldn't call it a speech problem when he pronounces every other word correctly except for Pavel Datsyuk and Detroit Red Wings. Again, I never mentioned Vladdy, so it is ridiculously inappropriate to insinuate that I would say the same about him. I may be new to this site, but that does not give you the right to use childish name calling in answering a qwuestion. You joined this site April 24, 2004, but I have already shown way more class than you have over your 5 year membership. Hahaha! Didn't you know, silly rabbit......"class" has already been deemed to be the most overly and misused term in hockey. Fact is, when you call somebody a douchebag, the class argument has gone out the window. Step down off the high horse you rode in here on, pump the brakes and take your holier than thou attitude and shove it where the sun don't shine. Yeah, i'm in a bad mood and i'm going to take it out on you Nancy.

blackbarbie11 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 (edited) I enjoyed the NHL Awards last night. I thought all of the athletes looked very handsome all dressed up. I also enjoyed the performance by Chaka Kahn. And of course I have to send a special shout out to my Nashville Predator Steve Sullivan (even though he seemed really nervous) for winning the Masterton Award. And again I think all of the European players have really cute accents especially Malkin. Edited June 19, 2009 by blackbarbie11
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 (edited) This season, Chara was better then Nick in the regular season. That's how the Norris is awarded, no problem with that. Congrats to Pav on his two awards, although I hope he gets some more PIMs next season, not a fan of the Byng Also, the 1st team all stars were flawed. Iggy and Green over Datsyuk and Lidstrom? Please. Edited June 19, 2009 by Detroit # 1 Fan

Congrats to Pav on his two awards, although I hope he gets some more PIMs next season, not a fan of the Byng The first two months of the season - and you would be correct. Chara had a worst +/- in front of the Vezina winning goaltender with the league-leading save percentage, while Lidstrom had a better +/- (as well as points) in front of the regular season sieve that was Osgood this year (dead last amongst starting goaltenders).
