Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I'm starting to wonder whether people actually:

A. Watch Detroit to see how much ice-time Filppula receives

B. Listens to the way Babcock and Holland rave about him

C. Watch Filppula in the playoffs

And yet despite this he’s going to be sent packing? Give me a break PLEASE.

Overrated!!!

Flip will be gone if Hossa signs and we'll be better for it. We need goals.

Flip is the Wings' depth?

Signing Hossa= bye to our depth. Our roster would look a little something like this...

Daniel Cleary ($2.8m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.1m) / Marian Hossa ($5.0m)

Johan Franzen ($4.0m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.7m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($2.2m)

Justin Abdelkader ($0.8m) / Darren Helm ($0.6m) / Ville Leino ($1.0m)

Kirk Maltby ($0.9m) / Kris Draper ($1.6m) / Darren McCarty ($0.6m)

1. 4th line is horrible

2. Third line features 3 rookies, yeah, like that's going to happen.

You can honestly see that happening? Cool...

Read my post. I said get rid of Holmstrom instead of Filppula. Now, who do you think should go if Hossa signs?

I'd rather lose Holmstrom than Flip as well but I doubt it will happen. Besides the fact that he's been with the team a lot longer, it seems rather obvious to me that Holmstrom is becoming less and less effective out there with constantly nagging injuries so I doubt it'd be real easy to get much for him. Flip would net us the best return and give the most cap relief of anyone we've got. That's why Flip will likely be the guy to go.

When half over half our guys were injured or Grand Rapids Griffins. That's just a step above a home run in a little league field.

And he can't score goals. We need those to win. Hossa scores goals. Hudler and Sammy are better goal scorers than Flip.

We need goals, plain and simple. Flip is not a goal scorer.

So assists, which set up goals, mean nothing?

I see, interesting theory that.

Hossa scores goals? And yet he had ZERO in the Finals. Franzen had two, as did Flip.

I guess Flip really wasn't that bad afterall.

Who will get Hossa his goals? He's shown minimal chemistry with anyone other than Filppula.

I don't know how many times I have to say this....

Filppula is not going any where even if we do or don't sign Hossa. You'll see, he's going to be one of our best guys on our team, I already think he's one of our best but it's going to take some time to get it through some thick skulls.

I'm sorry weren't you the one just preaching about paying attention to playoff performances?

See your above post as hypocrisy!

Helm had one of the single best shifts in the playoffs and played a huge role, and none of those guys are 18 year old rookies.

I will agree that 4th line looks like trash, but what is to say that will be it, Swap McCarty out for a non-washed up player and that line looks good to me.

I learned long ago that Ken Holland will always put the team ahead of one player or line or game, he will do the right thing.

I even offer you this

Daniel Cleary ($2.8m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.1m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.7m)

Johan Franzen ($4.0m) / Darren Helm ($0.6m) / Marian Hossa ($5.0m)

Justin Abdelkader ($0.8m) /Kris Draper ($1.6m) / Ville Leino ($1.0m)

Kirk Maltby ($0.9m) / Stephane Yelle (.750m) /Tomas Holmstrom ($2.2m)

And that was just using Yelle because I know he is a cheap UFA, I didn't even look hard and I like those lines a lot!!! The speed on the 4th is similar to the Homer, Igor, Luc line!

Not signing Hossa means we might lose Hossa, Sammy and Hudler who are worth 80-90 goals a year. Sammy's most likely gone as he'll get way more money on the open market and he's made less. Hudler could be in the same boat. If we lose them AND Hossa, who in the hell is going to score enough goals to keep us in the top? Z, Dats and Franzen are great, but if we want to stay an elite team, we can't just lose 90 goals in production from 3 guys. Do you realize how disastrous this last regular season could've been if we lost those 90 goals. From other places, MAYBE we pick up 20-30 of those. But we would've lost a lot more games in the process and heaven knows what that would've done to the Wings momentum. We need the goals, bottom line. We will struggle FAR more than many think if we lose Hossa, Sammy and Huds.

Are you serious? This is what it would look like without Hossa:

Pavel Datsyuk ($6.7m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.1m) / Johan Franzen ($4.0m)

Daniel Cleary ($2.8m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.0m) / Jiri Hudler ($2.0m)

Does it matter if they’re 18, 22 or in Leino’s case, 25? If they have minimal NHL experience, which they all do aside from Helm, Babcock will not throw him in to 3rd line duties as soon as next season. Honestly, do you not know Babcock at all?

And that roster, honestly, you would rather that just to keep Hossa? Draper centering the 3rd line? What a backwards move.

June 30, Ottawa Sun: Hossa: The Wings offered him a 10-year deal, but haven't been able to lock up the winger. GM Ken Holland is toying with dealing his negotiating rights today. Detroit has major salary cap issues and needs to shed cash. Hossa wants to go to a winner. He is a close friend of Boston D Zdeno Chara, but the Bruins have money issues as well. The Habs, Wild, Oilers, Kings and Canucks are going to make a pitch if he's available.

Terrific, mature response.

You're beyond maturity. You're more biased than the Osgood slappies. I'm not going to waste my time with thought out mature responses when I know they'll simply fall on deaf ears/blind eyes if you want to go with the whole internet/visual thing...

Yeah, that Babcock, he has publicly stated he does what he can with what Holland gives him, he will make them work. (As in making his lines, he can't call up who he wants, not that Holland gives him garbage to work with)

EDIT: remember your "Watch the Playoffs" argument, did you see the Draper Abdelkader Leino line at all?

Also, don't expect this to necessarily be over tomorrow even. I wouldn't be shocked to see this take a week or so to resolve. Say Hossa tests the market and doesn't get the offers Winter thought he would. Who's to say he wouldn't go with the Wings offer then? Or maybe Sammy goes early and Hudler looks like a wildcard and Holland ups his offer a bit. I think this is going to be an interesting and slow off season as the cap effect is really starting to weigh on GM's.

Red Wings GM Ken Holland gets a twiddle account while waiting for Marian Hossa's final answer

Posted by George James Malik June 30, 2009 13:03PM

Red Wings GM Ken Holland told ESPN's Pierre LeBrun that free agent-to-be Marian Hossa and his agent, Ritch Winter, have yet to inform the Red Wings of their intentions:

June 30, ESPN: Red Wings GM Ken Holland also told us through a text-message report that there was "nothing happening" on the Marian Hossa front. The star winger remains unsigned with the hours slipping away toward free agency (Wednesday, noon ET).

The Wings are holding their pre-free-agency organizational meetings today, so Holland remains busy, but on the Hossa front, thumb-twiddling applies.

You honestly think this is a man that will have an all rookie 3rd line? Not only that, but a line of washed up veterans on the 4th? Just in the name of re-signing Hossa?

Yeah, because I refuse to accept that Detroit would be willing to trade Flip and with him all our depth just to re-sign Hossa I must be biased.

He doesn't have the choice that is what you are missing!

Babcock can make suggestions but when push comes to shove it is Holland that makes the call.

Like I said Babs wanted Ericsson Leino and Helm last year he got none of the three, he can want Dany Heatley, Travis Moen, and Chris Neil and it means all of jack s***.

He may be saying, I would really like depth over Hossa, and Holland could be saying well we will see what happens.

He may be screaming like a monkey that he wants Hossa, it is not his decision.

BTW, I don't think Flip will be traded, it doesn't have to happen to keep Hossa, and I think the 2nd will be Mule Flip Hossa, but I disagree with your point.

Then why in the hell are they offering him a contract and waiting on an answer? You act like there's not an offer on the table. It's not like they're going to say, "Nah! We changed our mind..." if Hossa comes to us and says yes. Is Holland lying in interviews when he says he'd be willing to move guys if the cap numbers right? Again, there's an offer on the table Hossa could still say yes to. Holland says he's willing to move people.

Who do you expect me to believe? Holland or Flips #1 fanboy on LGW.com???
