Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Even if he leaves, Hossa still left a ton of money on the table to come here. He had an 80m/10 year offer last year. Nobody will come close to that this year.

Our best offer is probably 47.5m over 10 years for 4.75m/year. If we factor in that we paid him 7.45 already, that's 54.75 over 11 years, or 5.00m/year.

Not that we need another Hoss thread but we need somthing for this guy...anything for god sakes, even just the rights for another rfa would be better than nothing! Tanguay, afineganov, sedins, gaborik, sundin, koivu...most of these aren't plyable but you get the point!

For me it's worth it. Hossa is a great player and I was so thrilled when we got him here in Detroit and I was hoping we'd be able to sign him to a long term deal before the season ended but now I just hope the Wings can keep him. All this analyzing Hossa's game during the Playoffs and the Finals it makes me wonder would we still be doing this if we won the Cup.

Would we care so much that Hossa didn't score if we got the Cup this season. Let's get over the fact that he didn't contribute offensively in the playoffs the way he should have. He's still a great player and I think it's worth losing a few guys to keep a player like him.

But it's not about what I think or what you think or what anyone thinks about Hossa or his game it's about if Holland, Hossa and Winter can agree on a deal and a number. I hope they can.

I love that the Wings' two options are having a team with Hossa and good depth vs having a team with no Hossa and great depth.

I don't even care what happens, we will still be competing for the Cup next April as one of the favorites regardless of what Holland does.

I'd rather lose Holmstrom than Filppula. Filppula gives the Wings great depth at center. That way they could put Pav and Z together if they wanted. If they trade Fil, Pav and Z would be separated unless Helm played 2nd line center, which I don't think is a good idea.

I don't know why I even bother coming to this site during the off-season, seriously.

3 people in a row have just agreed to lose all of our depth to re-sign Hossa. Awesome stuff guys, awesome.

Kenny already said he would be willing to move a few guys to keep Hossa. I don't think Kenny would "lose all of our depth" in the process. Who do you think would be moved if Hossa was signed?

You mean agreed to lose your favorite player who happens to be profoundly overrated in your world?

Flip is the Wings' depth?

Sammy meh, I have been a supporter of his on this site from way back, but really, I'll take Leino.

Hudler, here is a tricky situation, he is an enigma, with 3rd or 4th line minutes he is en fuego, on the top lines he is almost invisible. He and flip are only expendable if Hossa is signed (IMO) no other UFA.

To me Flip + Sammy + Hudler < Hossa + Leino + Helm

Kopecky replaced by Abdelkader or UFA is no great loss to the depth.

Lebda is a healthy Lilja away from being gone.

Cheli is gone Hossa or no!

Conklin is gone Hossa or no!

So please do elaborate on how keeping Hossa costs the Wings all of their Depth?

Ericsson is ready, Helm is ready, Leino is ready, Abdelkader is ready?

So next year instead of having solid NHLers in the A they will have AHLers.

I would love to see what Axelson has in GR, love to see Ryno in NA, Kindl in the NHL would like to see what he has.

The wings have depth still, we just haven't seen it in the NHL because some of it isn't even in the AHL yet do to the fact the Griffins have had NHL ready talent there for 2 seasons now.

I'm starting to wonder whether people actually:

A. Watch Detroit to see how much ice-time Filppula receives

B. Listens to the way Babcock and Holland rave about him

C. Watch Filppula in the playoffs

And yet despite this he’s going to be sent packing? Give me a break PLEASE.

The guy that led the team in assists in the playoffs and was third in points? Yeah, what an overrated hack. I can't believe we didn't try and get a 7th round pick for him.

Not so sure about McCarty but other than that it looks good. I've got a feeling Sammy's gone no matter what happens with Hossa and I wouldn't be surprised if the same deal happens with Hudler. Kopecky's already gone it seems. I don't think they'll let Lilja go. Chelios and Conklin already have been given the boot more or less. I think Lebda's likely gone on D. He'd be easiest to deal of the D likely to get traded and is paid more than Meech.

When half over half our guys were injured or Grand Rapids Griffins. That's just a step above a home run in a little league field.

And he can't score goals. We need those to win. Hossa scores goals. Hudler and Sammy are better goal scorers than Flip.

We need goals, plain and simple. Flip is not a goal scorer.

Read my post. I said get rid of Holmstrom instead of Filppula. Now, who do you think should go if Hossa signs?
