Eklund said Hossa is signing in Detroit for a long deal around 5.5 million per year!

Every time I walk past my laptop I refresh TSN's homepage and this thread hoping to see information about Hossa. =(

I also refresh Mlive.com's Red Wings page.

Come on HOSSA!

Sweet. I never used my apple button for refreshing.. I always used function+f5.

I keep looking on the TSN page and seeing other contracts being issued and I choke just a little when Hossa isn't there.

I really hope they find a way to sign Hossa, but if it's not going to happen, I'm a little perturbed about us not dealing the rights to at least get something for him. Not sure what to make of the lack of news.

I guess in a state where people are struggling and the difference between 75/40k is not ONLY 35k. It has THRITY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS. To a middle class working person that is a hell of a lot more of a difference than to a freaking millionaire. I guess I just don't have much sympathy that he may not be able to buy as many yachts and ferraris when I can't even dream of buying a 14' fishing boat at this point. Cry me a river that he would have to take cuts. And this isn't only Hossa, I can't believe how much ANY athlete gets paid these days.

Sorry for ranting but I just got my salary cut and profit sharing taken away today and upper management and the CEO of the company ( i wont name who I work for but is a major company ) had the nerve to say to us, right after telling us all of the cuts "it may get to the point when us managers have to see a decline in our pay, so believe us when we say we feel for you" and this guy drives a Bentley and literally lives in a Frank Lloyd Wright home. Oh no! How tragic, I hope you don't EVER have to take a paycut mr. manager! Please, cut my pay and my coworkers pay so you can still rake in millions of dollars every year. These people should be the first taking paycuts.

And I am NOT bashing Hossa as a player. I would love to see him stay. I hope he does stay. I do not beleive he is a choker, I have not lost faith in him as a Red Wing. I do not want him to walk. Just to get that out there.

I hear ya brother. Two years ago I was making just over the six figure mark and was selling so much for my comapny that i got to pick out my own F-150 crew cab company car. This year I'm on track to make $36k. Thats a 70% pay cut.

Last time I went to a Mariner's baseball game all I could think about was that all these foriegn guys coming up to the plate were all millionaires. The money I struggle to save and budget, and try to plan for my kids future and my retirement, they field a few balls, make a couple throws, an rbi here and there, and they amass that kind of money in week.

Whats Abdelkader making, $850,000 or something? Holy frikin cow.

Well now we know that's not gonna happen :P

But seriously, not sure why everyone is waiting like were going to hear something tonight. If he resings it'll probably be last minute like Stuart last year.

Champions. Reading by your many posts in various threads, i think many can agree that your the one who needs help.

Whatever dude, you know as well as everyone does, it was a lot of people who came up short this playoff. Hossa didn't choke anymore than Hudler or Holmstrom. He outscored them actually. But to actually act like Hossa owes it to you to come back and play for pennies just because he didn't lead the world in scoring in the playoffs, is idiotic. Dude, he gave up MILLIONS to have a shot at the Cup here, you really think he's going to give up MILLIONS upon MILLIONS to try it again? He just might, but that doesn't justify you calling him a playoff choke and insinuate that he is raping Holland by asking for $6million. My point was, if Hossa is a playoff choker, then so are Holmstrom/Hudler/Draper/Maltby amongst others who failed to perform as well as they did last season. But according to your logic, every supestar should come play in Detroit for a fraction of what you're worth if you EVER want to win a Cup. Chump, you call him, pathetic I call you. You are probably one of those "fans" that boo Fedorov too...

Hossa was great. If he leaves, oh well. That is all he bought in for. 1 Year, 1 chance. He owes us nothing. His quality of character doesn't change because he leaves. The guy is a f***in class act and I will cheer for him no matter where he plays.

If we can re-sign him for a reasonable sum of money, that's great. If he wants too much, then let him walk. Right now, I'm for whatever is in the best interests of the team. I don't think playoff performance is the end all and be all of what determines a player's worth. Pavs had a couple crappy playoff runs and the fact he was injured this year is part of the reason we didn't repeat. That's how essential he's become to us. I'm not saying Hossa deserves a pass, but I wish people would quit acting like he's the only player who didn't step up when we needed it the most.

Whether he stays or goes should depend on his overall production with this team, not just his no-show in the playoffs.

That's just my .02, though.

You're ridiculous. Yes, Hossa did choke more than them. You don't seem to understand the concept of roles. Admittedly, Holmstrom and Hudler have a similar type of role, but not in the same capacity. That's why they weren't paid the big amount, and that's why they didn't see as much prime ice time with the same players.

And no, Hossa doesn't owe us squat. That's why I'll be perfectly happy when he LEAVES.

Get off your high horse. People don't have to mindlessly support Hossa to be a fan. It's called an opinion. There was no reason to attack him.

We have to give up too much to keep Mr. Hossa. Who would go? I say Flip is untouchable and I think he's the one that we'd have to sacrifice.

Wings have made their final offer

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...nswer_from.html

General manager Ken Holland said Monday that he is not in a position to negotiate with Hossa. He is waiting for a response from Hossa's agent, Ritch Winter. The deadline is noon Wednesday, when free agents can begin talking with other teams.

"I've touched base with Ritch Winter every day, nothing really changes," Holland said. "I'm OK either way. I'd love to have him back, but at the same time, if they believe there's a better financial opportunity out there it was a tremendous one-year relationship.

"We tried to be creative with contracts. I've expressed to Ritch and Marian, 'Here's what we've got.' We walked through the numbers. I know he likes it here. I believe it's a tough decision for him."

Winter did not respond to a phone message.

Stop dickin around Hossa. Make a f***in decision. I can't wait any longer. He better not wait around until Wednesday and not sign and leave us with nothing.

I wouldn't think less of him at all if he did so and neither should you. This is no small decision and the fact that it's gone on this long shows that it's a very difficult one for Hossa.

Also, the longer it goes on, the more I think there may be a chance he signs especially considering he may not get as much as Winter may envision from other teams, not to mention the fact that the other teams are not going to be as strong as the Wings organization.

And bear in mind, he doesn't have to decide July 1st either. We landed him last year on the 2nd...

Last night I was leaning towards him being gone. Tonight, I'm not sure by any means he's staying, but I think there's a better chance than I thought through the weekend.

Hell, maybe Winter's holding out to see what happens with our UFA's and RFA's. If Huds and Sammy get deals we're not prepared to match and that's over early, Holland might lean towards throwing a few more bucks towards Hossa to secure our offensive output. Losing either the pair of Sammy and Hudler or Hossa alone is going to be a huge blow, but to lose all three? That's rough. Much rougher than many people here have thought.
